This decision\u200b has\u2064 been deemed &#8220;unorthodox&#8221; by some, including Atlanta-based attorney Phil Holloway.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s certainly\u2063 unorthodox and appears to be a cash cow for any\u2062 lawyer \u2064paid by the hour,&#8221; \u200dHolloway said. &#8220;I\u2019ve been\u200c practicing criminal law in Georgia for 24 years, and I\u2019ve never seen such an \u200carrangement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Willis began \u200cinvestigating Trump in\u2062 February 2021 and\u200b recently indicted\u2063 him and 18 co-defendants on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-indicted-georgia-grand-jury-charges-ex-president-with-rico-charges-for-2020-election\/\" title=\"Donald Trump indicted: Georgia grand jury charges ex-president with RICO for 2020 election.\">racketeering charges related<\/a> to the alleged illegal overturning of the 2020\u200d election in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>One of the co-defendants, former Georgia GOP Chairman\u2064 David Shafer, raised concerns\u200c about the payments to private prosecutors in a court filing, citing an advertisement from Wade&#8217;s firm that offered \u200ddefense services to \u2063individuals \u2062facing charges, including the \u200ccharge leveled against\u2064 Shafer.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the \u200badvertisement\u2062 issue, Holloway pointed out that Wade&#8217;s role as outsourced counsel allows him to\u200d avoid\u2064 certain obligations and requirements that public \u200dservants typically \u2064have.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;For\u200b starters, it avoids the statutory requirements for the\u2063 appointment of\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fani-willis-bankrolls-private-attorney-for-trump-prosecution-certainly-unorthodox\/\" title=\"Fani Willis funds Trump prosecution with private attorney: 'Unconventional move'\">assistant\u2064 district attorneys<\/a>, who are paid a fixed \u2063salary, and also avoids the administration of an oath of office,&#8221; Holloway said.\u2063 &#8220;The \u200coath\u200d of office is intended to protect \u2064the public from malfeasance by public officials and carries a criminal penalty if \u2063violated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These payments to\u200d Wade and his firm have drawn attention from defense attorney Andrew Fleischman, who expressed concern about \u2064the high costs and the \u2062backlog of cases in\u2062 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/19-year-old-arrested-in-calif-for-double-murder\/\" title=\"19-year-old arrested in Calif. for double murder\">district attorney&#8217;<\/a>s office.<\/p>\n<p>While some individuals familiar with the situation have questioned the use of private\u2062 attorneys and the \u2063associated costs, Willis has not responded to \u2063requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting\u200c that Wade was brought on by Willis after\u200c other\u2063 candidates\u200d declined\u2063 the position, and he \u200bhad\u2062 previously \u2064mentored her\u2064 during her time as chief magistrate judge \u200bin \u200dSouth\u200d Fulton.<\/p>\n<p>Read Shafer&#8217;s motion \u2064request <a href=\"#\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>County District Attorney&#8217;s office for his work on the investigation and prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
