(Photo by \u200cAlex Wong\/Getty\u2064 Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><br \/>4:35 PM \u2063\u2013 Sunday, September 10, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>New\u2063 Mexico\u2019s\u2062 Democrat governor, \u2064Michelle Lujan Grisham, came under fire from the National Rifle Association \u2063(NRA) for \u2062temporarily restricting \u2064open and concealed \u2062carry across Albuquerque and \u2062neighboring Bernalillo County due to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-joins-new-mexico-in-requiring-booster-shots-for-healthcare-workers\/\" title=\"California Joins New Mexico In Requiring Booster Shots For Healthcare Workers\">emergency public health order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIn a shocking\u2063 move, Governor \u200cLujan Grisham is suspending Second Amendment rights by administrative fiat, \u2062ignoring \u200bthe U.S. Constitution and the New Mexico Constitution,\u201d \u2064NRA-ILA Executive \u2064Director Randy Kozuch told\u200c the press.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead \u200dof increasing crime, the Democratic \u200dgovernor, according\u200c to the NRA head, should eliminate \u201csoft-on-crime policies.\u201d According to police\u200d statistics, 76 homicide victims have \u2062been reported in Albuquerque so \u2062far this year, which \u2063is fewer than\u2063 the 93 victims reported during \u200bthe same period last year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cInstead of undermining the fundamental rights of\u2064 law-abiding New Mexicans, she should address the soft-on-criminal policies which truly\u2062 endanger its citizens,\u201d Kozuch said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an executive order made public on Friday, Lujan Grisham temporarily\u2063 banned the open and concealed carry regulations in Bernalillo County for at least 30 days. The deadly shootings of a 13-year-old girl in July, a 5-year-old girl \u200cin August, and \u200dan\u2062 11-year-old boy this month served as the impetus \u2062for the statement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAs I said yesterday, the time for standard measures has passed,\u201d the governor said, according to her\u200b office\u2019s press release\u200c on\u200d the order. \u201cAnd when New \u200bMexicans are afraid to be \u2063in crowds, to take their\u200b kids to school, \u200dto\u200b leave\u200c a baseball\u200b game \u2013 when their very\u2062 right to exist is threatened by the prospect of violence at \u2064every turn \u2013 something is very wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Friday, the governor held \u2062a press conference where she boldly said \u200bthat \u200dno constitutional right is \u201cabsolute.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cNo constitutional right, in my\u2063 view, \u200cincluding my oath, is intended to be absolute,\u201d \u200cLujan Grisham said after a reporter \u200basked whether it\u2019s \u201cunconstitutional\u201d to force Americans not to exercise their right to bear arms.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThere are\u200b restrictions on free \u2062speech. \u200cThere are restrictions on my freedoms. In this emergency, \u200cthis\u2063 11-year-old, and all these parents who have lost all these children, \u200dthey deserve my attention to have the debate about whether or not, in an\u2064 emergency, we can \u2063create a\u2063 safer environment. Because what about their constitutional rights?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The reporter continued by inquiring of the Democrat governor\u2063 whether she\u200c thought\u2064 that \u200ccriminal offenders\u200b with access to\u2063 black market weapons would obey her directives on the 30-day suspension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUh, \u200cno,\u201d she responded. After that question she \u200dreportedly went into a tangent about the importance of\u200d reporting crimes to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bNational Association for Gun Rights\u200b and\u200c a local, unnamed resident have already launched a\u200b lawsuit against Grisham for \u201cviolating their Second Amendment rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cGov. Luhan \u200cGrisham is throwing \u200bup a middle finger to \u200cthe Constitution and the Supreme Court,\u201d Dudley Brown said. Dudley is the president of the \u200cNational\u200c Association for Gun Rights.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The USCCA\u2019s recently established 501(c)(4)\u200d group, the U.S. Concealed Carry Association for \u200dSaving Lives Action Fund, also denounced the order \u201cin the strongest possible terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cNot only does Governor Grisham lack the constitutional authority to \u2064implement such \u200dan \u200cunprecedented assault on the Second Amendment rights of New Mexico\u2064 citizens, \u200bbut it strikes at the \u200cvery heart of what \u200dresponsible gun owners have\u200c been\u2063 saying \u200dfor years \u2013 criminals do not follow the \u200dlaw, and this \u200border only serves\u2064 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nra-condemns-dem-governor-for-temporarily-suspending-open-and-concealed-carry\/\" title=\"NRA slams Dem Governor's temporary suspension of open and concealed carry.\">punish law-abiding gun owners<\/a> who protect their community,\u201d said Katie \u2064Pointer Baney, chairman \u200bof\u200c the board and executive director of the USCCA-FSL \u2063Action Fund.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On X, formerly known as \u2063Twitter, the NRA emphasized that the <a href=\"https:\/\/nmonesource.com\/nmos\/c\/en\/item\/5916\/index.do#!fragment\/zoupio-_Toc144201090\/BQCwhgziBcwMYgK4DsDWszIQewE4BUBTADwBdoAvbRABwEtsBaAfX2zgEYAWLgJgAYO-AJz8AlABpk2UoQgBFRIVwBPaAHJ1EiITC4Ei5Ws3bd+kAGU8pAEJqASgFEAMo4BqAQQByAYUcTSMAAjaFJ2MTEgA\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nmonesource.com\/nmos\/c\/en\/item\/5916\/index.do#!fragment\/zoupio-_Toc144201090\/BQCwhgziBcwMYgK4DsDWszIQewE4BUBTADwBdoAvbRABwEtsBaAfX2zgEYAWLgJgAYO-AJz8AlABpk2UoQgBFRIVwBPaAHJ1EiITC4Ei5Ws3bd+kAGU8pAEJqASgFEAMo4BqAQQByAYUcTSMAAjaFJ2MTEgA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Mexico Bill of Rights guarantees<\/a> the right to keep and carry guns for \u201csecurity and defense, for lawful hunting and \u200brecreational use and for other lawful purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A statute\u200d permitting people to file a $2 million lawsuit if their constitutional \u2063rights are infringed was enacted by the governor in \u200b2021.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cUnder\u2064 the \u2063New Mexico \u200bCivil Rights\u2062 Act, signed into law\u2064 by @GovMLG, a person\u2063 whose rights under the Bill of Rights are violated may sue to recover for damages and obtain injunctive relief.
