One of the station\u2019s \u200cfour chargers was broken, and others were occupied. So an\u200c Energy Department \u2062staffer tried parking a \u200cnonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy,\u201d the report continued. \u201cThat did not go down well: a \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/energy-secretarys-electric-vehicle-roadtrip-devolves-into-scene-out-of-veep\/\" title=\"Energy Secretary's EV Roadtrip Turns Into 'VEEP-Like Scene'\">regular gas-powered car blocking<\/a> the \u200donly free spot for\u200d a \u2063charger?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, a family that was boxed out \u2014 on a sweltering \u2064day, with\u2063 a baby in the vehicle \u2014\u2062 was so upset they\u200d decided to get the authorities \u200binvolved: They called the police,\u201d the report added. \u201cThe\u2064 sheriff\u2019s office couldn\u2019t \u2064do\u200b anything. It\u2019s not\u2063 illegal\u2064 for a non-EV to claim a charging spot in Georgia. Energy \u2063Department staff scrambled to smooth over\u2063 the situation, including sending other vehicles to\u200c slower chargers, until both the frustrated family and the secretary had room to charge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The story drew\u2064 some mockery on social media, highlighted as being an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/electric-vehicles-catch-fire-after-hurricane-idalia-flooding\">encapsulation of the \u200bhardships<\/a> that complicate the federal government\u2019s push \u2063for a transition away from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/electric-vehicles-catch-fire-after-hurricane-idalia-flooding\/\" title=\"EVs ignite post-Hurricane Idalia flooding.\">gasoline-burning vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Lincicome,\u200c the vice\u2063 president of general economics \u200cat the libertarian Cato Institute,\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scottlincicome\/status\/1700911024017133707\">shared<\/a> a \u200dscreenshot of \u200cthe \u200cpassage about the\u200b struggles experienced by Granholm\u2019s crew and said it was\u2064 \u201clike a \u2064scene out of VEEP,\u201d referring \u200cto \u2063HBOa\u2019s political satire\u2063 series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus that ran\u2062 from\u200c 2012\u200b to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary of Energy boots family with baby so she can use their EV charger. \u200cFor reference, Article\u2062 I, Section 9 states \u2063\u2018No Title of Nobility shall be granted by\u2064 the \u200dUnited States,&#8217;\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/profstonge\/status\/1700927096183304406\">added<\/a> Heritage \u200dFoundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/staff\/peter-st-onge\">research fellow<\/a> Peter St Onge.<\/p>\n<h3>The Challenges Ahead<\/h3>\n<p>Domonoske noted in her\u200b report that\u200c drivers may face more issues with there not\u200b being enough chargers as the number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-so-called-inflation-reduction-act-does-nothing-manchin-claims-it-does\/\" title=\"The So-Called \"Inflation Reduction Act\" Does Nothing Manchin Claims It Does\">electric vehicles increases<\/a>.\u2064 She emphasized how this is particularly a problem for non-Tesla electric vehicles, as \u200cElon\u2064 Musk\u2019s company still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/07\/ev-sales-hyundai-overtakes-gm-but-teslas-us-dominance-continues.html\">dominates<\/a> \u200c the market in the United States, though some other\u200c automakers are \u2062embracing Tesla\u2019s technology and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/electric-vehicle-charging-network-tesla-mercedes-benz\/\">charging network<\/a> is\u2063 being opened to more\u2063 vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Granholm, at the end of her trip, conceded, \u200c\u201cClearly, we need more high-speed chargers, particularly\u2064 in \u200bthe South.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration&#8217;s push for electric vehicles faced a setback on Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm&#8217;s recent trip.
