There was skepticism that a summit communiqu\u00e9 would\u2062 be issued due\u200c to significant divisions among members.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While some countries demanded \u2063strong language against Russia, labeling \u2063the G20 member as an\u200d aggressor, India, the \u2063G20 president, had been\u2062 trying to strike a balance in\u2064 the summit declaration. India\u2019s close relationship with Moscow and its\u200b unwillingness to issue strong statements complicated the effort as well.<\/p>\n<p>The G20 members finally agreed \u200bon Sept. 9 to adopt a consensus declaration that \u2062avoided specifically\u2064 denouncing Russia over\u200d the war \u2064in Ukraine, instead broadly urging all countries to\u2064 refrain \u2064from using force to annex territory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In line \u200bwith the U.N. Charter,\u2063 all states\u2062 must refrain from the threat or use of force to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/world-leaders-gather-in-new-delhi-for-g20-summit-day-2\/\" title=\"World leaders meet in New Delhi for G20 Summit, Day 2.\">seek territorial acquisition<\/a> against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state.\u200b The use or threat \u2063of use of nuclear weapons is\u2062 inadmissible,&#8221; \u2063the declaration \u2063reads.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Russia and China&#8217;s objections, the leaders also reached a compromise on\u200d the language in several \u2063paragraphs to describe the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We highlighted the human suffering \u2063and negative added \u200dimpacts of the war in Ukraine with\u2062 regard to global food\u200d and energy\u200d security, supply chains, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russias-ruble-has-recovered-for-now\/\" title=\"Russia\u2019s Ruble Has Recovered \u2013 for Now\">macro-financial stability<\/a>, inflation, and growth, which\u200c has complicated the \u200dpolicy\u200b environment for countries,&#8221; the communiqu\u00e9 stated. &#8220;There were different views \u200band\u2064 assessments of the situation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement from last \u200dyear&#8217;s summit in Bali said that &#8220;most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-india-and-vietnam-biden-will-seek-to-challenge-chinas-global-ambitions\/\" title=\"Biden to confront China's global goals in India and Vietnam.\">members \u2062strongly\u2062 condemned<\/a> the war in Ukraine,&#8221; \u2062which wasn&#8217;t included in this year\u2019s \u200dstatement. The Bali statement had also quoted a \u200bU.N. resolution deploring &#8220;in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian \u2063Federation\u2064 against Ukraine and demands its complete and unconditional withdrawal from the territory of Ukraine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hence, this year&#8217;s statement is viewed as having softer language\u2063 regarding the Russia\u2013Ukraine war than last year&#8217;s \u2063declaration.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian foreign ministry\u200b called \u2062the \u200cjoint declaration &#8220;nothing to be proud of,&#8221; as it failed to label Russia as an \u2063aggressor in the war.<\/p>\n<p>The White \u200dHouse defended \u2062the statement, calling it &#8220;unprecedented.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The vast majority of G20 countries have supported multiple U.N. resolutions \u200dthat call out Russia&#8217;s illegal aggression,&#8221; deputy national security adviser \u2063Jon Finer told\u200c reporters on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/g20-summit-concludes-exposing-increased-tensions-between-us-and-china\/\" title=\"G20 Summit ends, highlighting US-China tensions.\">joint statement issued yesterday builds<\/a>\u200b on that \u200bto \u200csend an unprecedented, unified \u2064statement on the imperative\u200d that Russia refrain from using force for territorial \u2064acquisition,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<h3>Railway Project to Counter Belt and \u2063Road<\/h3>\n<p>At the summit, the United States, India, Saudi\u2064 Arabia,\u200b and \u200bthe\u2062 United Arab Emirates announced a memorandum of understanding\u200b (MOU) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Project-Gateway-Multilateral-MOU.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) for an\u2063 infrastructure project that will connect India, the Middle East, and Europe via sea and rail transportation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The project will create an economic \u200dcorridor linked by a\u200c railway line and existing ports through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel. \u2062However, it \u2063isn&#8217;t a done deal.
