Despite the crowded Republican field, the DeSantis campaign is viewing the\u200b contest as effectively between DeSantis and former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe it\u2019s already a two-person race,\u201d the unnamed \u200cofficial said, stating the\u2062 campaign would be satisfied with a <strong>\u201cstrong second-place finish\u201d<\/strong> in the Hawkeye\u200d State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the reality is, \u2063on the ballot there are other choices, and our goal is to get this down to a two-person race on the ballot, especially as we head into South Carolina and beyond into March.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA strong second-place showing gives us \u2062an opportunity to go in[to] New Hampshire\u2064 and show success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-campaign-staff-confirms-clue-mean-end-near-2024-hopeful\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeSantis\u2019\u200d campaign<\/a> and political action committee infrastructure began targeting Iowa shortly after the\u200c governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-twitter-campaign-reveal-fail-bigly-one-graph-shows-gamble-may-mistake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/campaign-2024-an-early-look-at-the-possible-republican-contenders\/\" title=\"Campaign 2024: An Early Look At The Possible Republican Contenders\">presidential bid<\/a><\/a> in May.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Roe of the pro-DeSantis Never Back Down PAC said Iowa was a priority for the organization in audio obtained\u2062 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/09\/03\/desantis-super-pac-ramaswamy-00113836\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIowa\u200b is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/received-a-fundraising-call-that-seemed-like-it-was-from-trump-it-could-be-from-this-scam-pac-operator-who-has-placed-3-8-billion-of-them\/\" title=\"Received A Fundraising Call That Seemed Like It Was From Trump? It Could Be From This \u2018Scam-PAC\u2019 Operator Who Has Placed 3.8 Billion Of Them\">real state<\/a> for us because of its education \u2014 \u2064it\u2019s a highly educated state \u2064\u2014 \u2064because of income, because \u2063of Bible reading,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Roe pointed to New Hampshire \u2014 the state following Iowa\u2019s caucus \u200cwith a primary \u2014 as tough terrain for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Hampshire \u2062is a terrible state for Donald Trump,\u201d he said.\u2062 \u201cThat\u2019s a terrible state for him. He\u2019s gonna\u2064 get like 28 percent\u201d of the primary vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow there \u2062is\u200d more people \u200bwho will have a slice of that and some \u200bpeople are\u200c just betting on\u2062 New Hampshire overall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he\u2019s going to\u200d lose the first\u2064 two states.
