the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-announces-first-criminal-resolution-involving-illicit-sale-and-transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> reads.\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>US Seizes Sanctioned Oil<\/h2>\n<p>Unsealed court \u2064documents showed that in April the United States seized \u2063from the tanker Suez Rajan contraband cargo that was allegedly being\u2063 sold by the IRGC to\u200c China.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On April 19, the vessel&#8217;s owner, Suez\u200d Rajan Limited, pleaded guilty to conspiring to\u200c violate the International Emergency Economic\u2064 Powers Act (IEEPA) in smuggling \u200dthe sanctioned Iranian crude oil. Under a\u2063 plea agreement, the company agreed to pay\u2063 a \u2062$2.4 million fine and face three \u200byears of corporate probation.<\/p>\n<p>Greek shipper Empire Navigation, the\u200b operating company of the Suez Rajan, agreed to cooperate and transport the Iranian oil to the United States\u200d at its own expense, a task\u200d that has\u2064 since been completed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>      \u200d  \u200d  &#8220;The contraband cargo is now the subject of a civil forfeiture action\u2063 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia,&#8221; the Justice Department said. &#8220;The United\u200c States\u2019 forfeiture complaint alleges that the oil aboard the vessel \u200cis \u200dsubject to forfeiture based on U.S. terrorism \u200dand money laundering statutes.&#8221;<br \/>\n  \u2062\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Hiding Oil&#8217;s Origin<\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury has revealed that\u200b Iran\u2019s oil smuggling revenue supports the \u2064Quds Force, \u200dan elite unit within the IRGC that \u200coperates across the Middle East.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The complaint\u200d accuses several groups linked to Iran\u2019s IRGC and the Quds Force of secretly selling and shipping Iranian oil to China.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 prosecution relied on satellite images, as well as documents, to \u2063allege that the Suez Rajan attempted to disguise its acquisition\u200c of Iranian crude oil\u200d from one \u2063tanker\u2063 by falsely \u200dclaiming it received the\u2063 oil from a different tanker.<\/p>\n<p>They allegedly hid the oil&#8217;s origin through\u2063 methods including ship-to-ship transfers, as well \u2064as masking the locations and \u200bidentities of\u2063 the vessels involved via false reporting and false documents.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint \u2062also alleged that the vessel&#8217;s charterer used the \u200dU.S. financial \u200csystem to facilitate the transportation of the oil.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/capitol-breach-suspect-asks-judge-for-permission-to-travel-to-peru-to-get-married\/\" title=\"Capitol Breach Suspect Asks Judge for Permission To Travel to Peru to Get Married\">court documents allege<\/a> that \u200d&#8221;profits from oil\u2064 sales support \u200bthe IRGC\u2019s full \u2063range of malign activities, including the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery, support for terrorism and both domestic and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-confirms-it-seized-iranian-oil-allegedly-en-route-to-china\/\" title=\"US seizes Iranian oil, suspected for China.\">international human rights abuses<\/a>,&#8221; the Justice Department stated.<\/p>\n<p>For months, the tanker sat in the South China Sea near Singapore&#8217;s\u200c northeast coast, before \u2063sailing for the Texas coast. The vessel transferred its\u2062 cargo to another tanker, which released its\u2064 oil \u200bin Houston in recent \u2063days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>      \u2062 At the time, U.S. authorities would not confirm they were seizing the cargo\u2062 or that the vessel was en route to the United States. But the Justice Department on Sept. 8 confirmed the U.S. government had seized the oil.\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Iran Seizes Tankers<\/h2>\n<p>Shortly after the Suez Rajan headed to the United States, Iran seized two tankers \u200din late \u2064April\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/world\/iran-seizes-oil-tanker-headed-for-texas-us-navy-5225397\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advantage\u200d Sweet<\/a> \u2063 flying the Marshall Islands flag, heading towards the United\u2064 States in the Gulf of Oman, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/world\/irans-revolutionary-guard-seizes-tanker-in-strait-of-hormuz-5238801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Niovi<\/a> owned by Greece traveling from Dubai \u200cto Fujairah.
