She is a fighter and will fight, everyday, for the people \u2064and the prosperity \u2062of\u200c Nashville.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Freddie O\u2019Connell: Focused on Local Politics<\/h2>\n<p>With less than a week until the tally, O\u2019Connell said he&#8217;s focused on local politics rather than national \u200btrends when\u2063 asked about the rise of progressive mayors in Republican states.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Though we&#8217;ve had support \u2063from \u200bsome local Democratic organizations, we&#8217;ve also had a bipartisan donor and\u2062 voter base the entire time \u2062I&#8217;ve run and governed,&#8221; O\u2019Connell told the \u200cWashington Examiner.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Connell has\u2064 represented District\u200c 19 on the\u2063 Metropolitan Council for the past\u2063 eight years and announced his bid for \u2063mayor in the spring of \u200c2022. O\u2019Connell\u2019s\u2062 career spans various community and nonprofit organizations,\u2063 as well as working \u200bin the private sector focused on information technology.<\/p>\n<p>Citing Mayor John Cooper&#8217;s lack of effort to improve the city\u2019s transit system, O\u2019Connell is running as a \u200dtransit activist and hopes to \u201cbuild a \u2062transportation network\u200b that works for everyone,\u201d\u2062 as stated in an interview with the Tennessean in May.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connell said the mayoral \u2064office is how services get passed to help residents directly, such as \u201cacting meaningfully on transit expansion and bringing affordable housing projects \u200cto the forefront of our efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other key aspects of the Democrat&#8217;s campaign\u200d include education \u2063and public safety. Pushing for more collaboration with community organizations and\u2064 the \u200cgovernment, O\u2019Connell wants\u2062 to \u201csolve problems that lead to violence before it occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should also implement\u2062 a Group Violence Reduction \u2063Strategy \u200c(GVRS) to \u200dbring\u2064 together community stakeholders, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pacific-northwest-prepares-for-heat-wave\/\" title=\"Pacific Northwest prepares for heat wave\">social service providers<\/a>, and law enforcement to focus on the places we already know crime\u2063 is\u2064 occurring,\u201d O\u2019Connell\u2062 said in the Nashville Scene in June.<\/p>\n<h3>What \u2063Does Celeste Maloy&#8217;s\u200c Win in Utah\u2019s Special Election Mean \u200bfor \u200cRomney&#8217;s Future?<\/h3>\n<p>The general election was held on Aug. 3, and\u2063 it resulted in\u200d a runoff. The voter registration to participate in the\u200b Nashville runoff election was Aug. 15. \u200dThe \u200ctwo-week early voting period began Aug. 25, and it includes elections for \u200bMetropolitan\u2063 Council\u2063 member at \u200clarge.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee ranks 10th among the\u200c most Republican states in the nation, with 60.7% of voters voting\u200d for the GOP \u2063candidate\u200d in 2016 and 2020, according\u2062 to the World Population Review.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal cities such as Houston and \u200bAustin are both led by Democratic mayors. \u2063In 2023, a number\u200b of records were broken in GOP-led cities where a Democratic candidate\u2064 came\u200c out on top.<\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville, Florida, experienced one of the\u200b biggest \u2064upsets\u2064 this year when Donna \u200dDeegan became the second Democrat in three decades to win over the state\u2019s biggest\u200c city. She \u200cdefeated Republican \u200dchallenger Daniel Davis, who\u2063 was endorsed by Gov.
