Kevin Brady: Democrat China Bill Stuffed with \u2018Laundry List\u2019 of Socialist, Welfare Carveouts\">predatory trade practices<\/a> like dumping\u2014the practice \u2062of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-reacts-to-navarro-conviction-only-china-is-celebrating\/\" title=\"Trump on Navarro Conviction: 'China's the Only One Celebrating'\">foreign entities underpricing exports<\/a> to drive out competitors from a target market.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Navarro was convicted on Thursday by a Washington, D.C., \u2062jury on two \u2062counts of \u200ccriminal contempt of Congress after a deliberation \u2064that lasted for almost five hours.<\/p>\n<p>The jury determined\u200c that Mr. \u200dNavarro had wilfully failed\u2062 to comply with the House Jan. 6 Committee subpoena when he refused to testify before them and \u2062produce certain requested documents.<\/p>\n<p>The two counts carry a maximum sentence of a year in prison and fines\u2064 of\u200c up to $100,000. Mr. \u200bNavarro\u2019s sentencing was scheduled for Jan. \u200d12, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The 10,000 soldiers referred to in the first post is the number of \u2063National Guard troops \u2064that President Trump offered to deploy in Washington,\u2063 D.C., prior to the Capitol breach, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-offered-to-deploy-10000-national-guard-troops-in-dc-ahead-of-jan-6-mark-meadows-3690294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> by former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in a Fox News interview.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/president-trump-authorized-but-did-not-order-national-guard-for-duty-on-jan-6-former-aide-says-4621470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with The Epoch Times last year, former\u2063 Pentagon \u200bchief of staff Kash Patel said that President Trump\u2019s offer of \u200bNational Guard deployment was rejected by former House Speaker Nancy \u2064Pelosi (D-Calif.) \u2062and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Navarro and Executive Privilege<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Navarro was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/judge-rejects-executive-privilege-defense-in-peter-navarros-contempt-of-congress-case-5483578\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicted<\/a> for contempt of Congress in June last year and pleaded not guilty to the charge. (Scott Olson\/Getty\u200b Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During a hearing at\u2064 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-court-is-fast-tracking-sidney-powells-request-for-a-forensic-exam-of-dominion-voting-machines\/\" title=\"Federal Court Is Fast-Tracking Sidney Powell\u2019s Request For A Forensic Exam Of Dominion Voting Machines\">federal court<\/a> in late August, \u2063Mr. Navarro clarified that \u2062President Trump made it \u201cvery clear\u201d that communications between the two would be \u2062covered under executive privilege.<\/p>\n<p>However, Judge \u2064Mehta ruled that there was insufficient evidence to confirm this but prohibited him from disclosing the information \u2063to a jury, thus stripping away Mr. Navarro\u2019s plan to use the justification of executive privilege in his defense.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>During the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/09\/07\/verdict-peter-navarro-contempt-of-congress-jan6-case.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trial<\/a>, Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Aloi\u200b told jurors that \u201cPeter Navarro made a choice. He chose not\u2062 to comply with the congressional subpoena.
