He served in roles\u2064 at \u2062Lawrence Berkeley\u200b National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National\u200d Laboratory,\u200c and the University of California, Berkeley. In \u200c2010, he\u2062 was honored with \u200ba portion of the Wolf \u200dPrize in Physics.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Recently, Mr. Clauser joined another Nobel laureate and over 1,600 professionals in\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/clintel.org\/nobel-prize-winner-dr-john-f-clauser-signs-the-clintel-world-climate-declaration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signing<\/a> the World Climate Declaration \u2062(WCD) organized \u2063by\u2063 Climate\u200c Intelligence (CLINTEL). This declaration\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/science\/over-1600-scientists-sign-no-climate-emergency-declaration-5482554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asserts<\/a> that there is\u200c no &#8220;climate emergency,&#8221; that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-whitehouse-officially-very-anxious-about-climate-legislation\/\" title=\"Sen. I had set up the boat with solar panels to\u2062 charge the \u200cbatteries. &#8230; I had an \u2064ammeter\u200d on\u200d the power output\u200d from the solar panels,\u200d and I\u2063 noticed every time we sailed under a cloud, the output from the solar panels dropped \u200bby\u2063 50 percent to \u2064half of its value that it was, and then we came out from behind the cloud and boom, their power went back up. And I thought, &#8216;I wonder why it&#8217;s just about a factor of \u2064two.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is\u2063 how I became \u200bvery curious as to how clouds work. When the climate issues came along, I very quickly realized that cloud cover has a profound effect on the earth&#8217;s heat input that \u200bthe clouds are reflecting a \u200cmassive amount of light back out into space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And so I read all of\u200d the various \u2064IPCC reports, \u2063National\u2062 Academy reports on this,&#8221;\u2064 he continued. &#8220;As a physicist, I&#8217;d worked at some excellent institutions\u2014\u2063 Caltech, Columbia, Cal Berkeley\u2014where very careful science\u200d needed to be done.\u200d And\u2062 reading these\u200b reports, I was appalled\u2063 at\u2064 how sloppy the work was. And in\u200b particular, \u200bit was very obvious, even \u200din the earliest reports, and all carried\u200b on through to the present, that clouds were not \u200bat all understood. &#8230;\u2062 It&#8217;s just simply bad science.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u200bClauser highlighted insights \u200bfrom former President Barack \u2063Obama&#8217;s science adviser, Steve Koonin. In Mr. Koonin&#8217;s book, &#8220;Unsettled: What\u2064 Climate Science Tells Us, What \u2062It\u2062 Doesn&#8217;t, and\u2063 Why It Matters,&#8221; the\u200d author noted\u2063 the inconsistency of \u2063the \u2063IPCC&#8217;s 40 computer models, emphasizing their inability\u200b to explain the past century&#8217;s climate \u2063and suggesting that these models lack a\u200c crucial\u200c piece\u200c of\u2062 physics.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Clouds pictured in Guna Yala Comarca, Panama, near \u200bthe island of\u2062 Carti Sugtupu in the Caribbean Sea, on Aug.\u200c 28, 2023. \u2062(Luis Acosta\/AFP \u200cvia Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>&#8216;The Missing Piece&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Clauser said\u2062 he believes he has \u200didentified a significant oversight in prevailing climate models.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I believe \u2062I have\u200b the missing piece \u2063of the puzzle that has \u2063been left out in\u200b virtually all of these computer programs,&#8221; he stated. &#8220;And that is the effect of clouds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While many theories\u200b of anthropogenic \u200dclimate\u200d change focus primarily\u2063 on the impact of human-produced CO2, Mr. Clauser argues that these models\u200c overlook the significance \u2062of cloud dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>He referenced the 2003 National \u2062Academy report, \u2064which, he said, &#8220;totally admitted&#8221;\u200b its lack of understanding about clouds, and made &#8220;a whole \u200cseries of mistaken statements\u200d regarding the effects of clouds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Drawing\u200b attention to Al Gore&#8217;s film, &#8220;The Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; Mr. \u2062Clauser noted, &#8220;[Mr. Gore] insists on talking about a\u200d cloud-free earth\u200d &#8230; That&#8217;s a totally\u200d artificial Earth.&#8221; According\u200b to Mr. Clauser, this cloudless portrayal of the\u200d earth reflects the approach taken by many in \u2064the climate\u200d science community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a totally artificial Earth. It is\u2063 a totally artificial \u200dcase for using a \u2062model, and this is pretty much what the IPCC and \u200dothers use\u2014a cloud free earth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Clauser pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nobel-winner-refutes-climate-change-narrative-points-out-ignored-factor-2\/\" title=\"Nobel laureate challenges climate change narrative, highlights overlooked factor.\">satellite images \u2064consistently show wide variances<\/a> in cloud cover, which can\u2063 span anywhere from five to 95 percent of \u200cthe Earth&#8217;s\u2064 surface.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cloud\u2064 cover fraction fluctuates quite dramatically \u2062on\u200d daily \u2062weekly timescales. (NASA Earth Observatory)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Effect of Clouds Compared to \u200cCO2<\/h2>\n<p>Clouds play a paramount role \u2064in regulating the Earth&#8217;s temperature, serving as a &#8220;cloud-sunlight-reflectivity thermostat&#8221; that &#8220;controls the climate, controls the temperature\u200d of the earth, and stabilizes it \u2064very powerfully and \u200cvery dramatically,&#8221; asserts Mr. Clauser.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With\u2063 two-thirds of the \u2063Earth being oceanic, the ocean becomes \u2064instrumental \u2062in cloud formation, he \u2064said.<\/p>\n<p>Minimal clouds result in\u2063 heightened sunlight \u2063exposure to the ocean, triggering increased evaporation and subsequent cloud formation, resulting in \u2064more clouds. On the\u2062 contrary, abundant clouds reduce this sunlight, thus\u200c curbing evaporation \u200drates and \u200dcloud \u2064formation, resulting in fewer clouds, Mr. Clauser explains.<\/p>\n<p>This balance acts like\u2062 a natural\u200c thermostat for the earth&#8217;s \u200dtemperature, \u2064he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Clauser contends that this &#8220;thermostat&#8221; mechanism has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-announces-strong-support-for-dc-statehood-bill-says-51st-state-long-overdue\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Announces \u2018Strong Support\u2019 For DC Statehood Bill, Says 51st State \u2018Long Overdue\u2019\">vastly greater influence<\/a> on Earth&#8217;s temperature than the \u2063effect\u2062 of CO2 or methane. \u200dHe presented to The Epoch Times preliminary calculations that suggest that the impact of this cloud-reflectivity mechanism might overshadow CO2&#8217;s influence by more than 100 or \u200ceven 200\u200c times.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>All clouds,\u200d irrespective of their altitude or type, appear bright white when\u200d viewed from the direction of\u2062 the\u2064 sun, according \u2062to Mr.\u200c Clauser. They typically reflect almost 90 percent \u2062of incoming sunlight, he said. The reflectivity \u2064fraction is referred to \u2063as albedo. <strong><\/strong>The\u200b albedo has been inaccurately \u2064kept constant \u200bin various climate models, Mr. Clauser argues.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He finds it\u2062 baffling how these significant variations, ranging from five \u200dto 95\u2062 percent cloud\u2064 cover,\u2064 have \u2062been overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u2064Clauser\u200d further \u2063underscores that clouds \u2063are integral to \u2064weather dynamics, and yet, \u2063current climate \u2062models, whose authors &#8220;admit upfront that their\u200c models\u200b cannot predict weather,&#8221; have been wielded to foretell drastic\u2063 climatic\u2062 shifts, including &#8220;climate crisis apocalypse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>&#8216;Very Dishonest \u2064Disinformation&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Clauser observed\u200c that\u200c the drive to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nobel-winner-refutes-climate-change-narrative-points-out-ignored-factor\/\" title=\"Nobel laureate challenges climate change narrative, highlights overlooked factor.\">address human-induced climate change<\/a> is increasingly \u200bshaping political\u2063 agendas\u200b and influencing the strategic direction of entire nations.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The whole world is doing all of this. A lot of the pressure is actually coming from Europe, all of these various world conferences&#8221; he said, speculating much of \u200dthis\u2062 push\u200c might \u200dhave its\u200b roots in Mr. Gore&#8217;s &#8220;An \u2063Inconvenient\u200c Truth,&#8221; which he feels has incorporated\u200d inaccurate science.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gore&#8217;s \u2063film claims that humanity is triggering a dire climate crisis\u200b that \u2063necessitates global action. But Mr. \u200dClauser contends: &#8220;&#8216;Climate change&#8217; is actually very dishonest disinformation that has been \u2064presented by various politicians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>He pinpoints a 2013 \u200dPhysics Today <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.aip.org\/physicstoday\/article\/65\/3\/31\/414011\/Predicting-and-managing-extreme-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> (pdf) by Jane\u200b Lubchenco and Thomas Karl as pivotal in shaping the narrative, \u200cespecially during the period when &#8220;global warming&#8221; was being rebranded as &#8220;climate change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The reason that was\u200b given w<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nobel laureate John Clauser challenges climate models, highlighting a neglected variable.
