He served in roles at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and \u200cthe University\u2062 of California, Berkeley. In 2010, he was honored with a portion of the Wolf Prize in Physics.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Recently, Mr. Clauser joined another Nobel laureate and over 1,600 professionals in <a href=\"https:\/\/clintel.org\/nobel-prize-winner-dr-john-f-clauser-signs-the-clintel-world-climate-declaration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signing<\/a> the World Climate Declaration (WCD) \u2064organized by Climate Intelligence \u200d(CLINTEL). This declaration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/science\/over-1600-scientists-sign-no-climate-emergency-declaration-5482554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asserts<\/a> that there is no &#8220;climate emergency,&#8221;\u2063 that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-whitehouse-officially-very-anxious-about-climate-legislation\/\" title=\"Sen. He recalled, &#8220;I raced across the \u2064Pacific Ocean at least a dozen times. I had set \u2064up the boat with solar panels to charge the batteries. &#8230; I had an ammeter on the power output from the solar\u2064 panels, and I noticed \u2064every time we sailed under a cloud, the output from the solar panels \u200cdropped by 50 percent to half of its value that it was, and then we came out from behind \u2063the cloud and boom, their power went back up. And\u2063 I thought, &#8216;I \u2064wonder why it&#8217;s just about a factor of two.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is how I became very curious as to how clouds work. When the climate issues came along, I very quickly realized that cloud cover has a profound effect \u200don the earth&#8217;s heat input that the clouds are reflecting a \u2064massive amount of light back out into space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And so I read all of the various IPCC\u2062 reports, National\u200d Academy reports on this,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;As a physicist, I&#8217;d worked at some excellent institutions\u2014 Caltech, Columbia, Cal Berkeley\u2014where very careful science needed to be done. And reading\u2063 these reports, I was appalled at how sloppy the work was. And \u2063in particular, it was very\u200b obvious, even in the\u200d earliest reports, and all carried on through to the present, that clouds were not at all understood. &#8230; It&#8217;s just \u2064simply bad science.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Clauser highlighted insights from former President Barack Obama&#8217;s science adviser, Steve Koonin. In Mr. Koonin&#8217;s book, &#8220;Unsettled:\u200c What Climate Science Tells Us, What It Doesn&#8217;t, and Why It Matters,&#8221; the author noted the inconsistency of the IPCC&#8217;s 40 computer models, emphasizing their inability to explain the past century&#8217;s climate and suggesting that these \u200dmodels lack\u200c a crucial piece of physics.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Clouds pictured in Guna Yala Comarca, Panama, near the island of Carti Sugtupu in the Caribbean Sea, on Aug. 28, 2023.\u200d (Luis Acosta\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>&#8216;The Missing Piece&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Clauser said he believes he has identified a \u200bsignificant\u200c oversight in prevailing climate models.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I believe I have the missing piece of the puzzle that has been left out in virtually all of these computer programs,&#8221; he stated. &#8220;And that is the effect of clouds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While many theories of anthropogenic climate change focus primarily on the impact of human-produced CO2, \u200dMr. Clauser argues that these models overlook the significance of cloud dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>He referenced the 2003 \u200dNational Academy report which &#8220;totally admitted&#8221; its lack of understanding about clouds, adding that the report made &#8220;a \u200cwhole\u2064 series of mistaken statements regarding the effects of clouds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Drawing attention to \u2062Al Gore&#8217;s film, &#8220;The Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; Mr. Clauser \u200dnoted, &#8220;[Al Gore] insists on talking about a cloud-free earth \u200c&#8230; That&#8217;s a\u2062 totally \u200bartificial Earth.&#8221; According \u200bto Mr. Clauser, this cloudless portrayal of the earth reflects the approach \u200btaken by\u2062 many in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tyler-oneil-twitter-files-reveal-how-the-left-uses-big-tech-to-create-an-illusion-of-scientific-consensus-and-stifle-debate\/\" title=\"Tyler O'Neil: \"Twitter Files\" Discover how the Left uses Big Tech in order to create the illusion of Scientific Consensus.\">climate science community<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a totally artificial Earth. It is a totally artificial case for\u200b using a model, and this is pretty much what the IPCC and others use\u2014a cloud free\u2064 earth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Emphasizing the real-world dynamics,\u2063 Mr. Clauser \u200dpointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nobel-winner-refutes-climate-change-narrative-points-out-ignored-factor\/\" title=\"Nobel laureate challenges climate change narrative, highlights overlooked factor.\">satellite images consistently show wide variances<\/a> in cloud cover, which can span anywhere from\u200c five to \u206395 percent\u200d of the Earth&#8217;s surface.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cloud cover fraction fluctuates quite dramatically on daily weekly timescales. We call\u2062 this weather. (NASA \u200cEarth Observatory)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Effect of Clouds Compared to CO2<\/h2>\n<p>Clouds play a paramount role in regulating the Earth&#8217;s temperature, serving as a &#8220;cloud-sunlight-reflectivity thermostat&#8221; that \u200c&#8221;controls \u200cthe climate, controls the temperature of the earth, and stabilizes it very powerfully and very dramatically,&#8221; asserts Mr. Clauser.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With two-thirds of the Earth being oceanic, the ocean becomes instrumental in cloud formation, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Minimal\u200c clouds result in \u200dheightened sunlight exposure to the ocean, triggering increased evaporation \u2062and subsequent cloud formation, resulting in more clouds. On the contrary, abundant\u200d clouds reduce this sunlight, thus curbing evaporation rates and cloud formation, resulting \u200bin fewer clouds, Mr.\u2064 Clauser \u2064explains.<\/p>\n<p>This balance acts like a natural thermostat\u200c for the earth&#8217;s \u200dtemperature, \u200bhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Clauser contends that this &#8220;thermostat&#8221; mechanism has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-announces-strong-support-for-dc-statehood-bill-says-51st-state-long-overdue\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Announces \u2018Strong Support\u2019 For DC Statehood Bill, Says 51st State \u2018Long Overdue\u2019\">vastly greater influence<\/a> on Earth&#8217;s temperature than \u2062the effect of CO2 or methane. He presented to The Epoch Times preliminary calculations that suggest that the\u200b impact of this cloud-reflectivity mechanism might overshadow CO2&#8217;s influence by more than 100 or even 200 times.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>All\u2063 clouds, irrespective of their altitude or type, reflect almost 90 percent of incoming sunlight, according to\u2062 Mr.\u200b Clauser. The reflectivity fraction, or the average reflectivity of sunlight, is referred to \u200das \u2063albedo. <strong>The albedo has been inaccurately kept\u2063 constant in various climate models, Mr. Clauser argues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He finds it baffling how these significant variations, ranging from five to 95 percent cloud cover, have been overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Clauser \u200dfurther underscores that clouds are integral to weather dynamics, and yet, current climate models, whose authors &#8220;admit upfront\u2063 that\u200c their \u2063models cannot predict weather,&#8221; have been wielded to foretell drastic climatic shifts, including &#8220;climate crisis apocalypse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The term &#8220;climate&#8221; refers to long-term, typically 30 years or more, weather condition averages. \u2063While reliable weather forecasts are limited to about a week\u2062 with standard weather prediction models,\u2064 which take into account the role of clouds, Mr. Clauser points out a paradox in Mr. Koonin&#8217;s book: just a 5 percent rise in cloud cover can largely \u2064counterbalance the temperature effect of doubling atmospheric CO2. Despite such nuances, according to Mr.\u2063 Clauser, the IPCC&#8217;s models\u200b persistently assume constant albedo, and\u2063 bypass the vast cloud\u2063 cover variations.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Very Dishonest Disinformation&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Clauser observed that the drive to\u200c address human-induced climate change is increasingly shaping political agendas and influencing the\u2064 strategic direction of entire nations.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The whole world is doing all of this. A lot of the pressure is actually coming from Europe, all of these various world conferences&#8221;\u200d he said, speculating much \u2062of \u2063this push \u200bmight have its roots in Al Gore&#8217;s &#8220;An Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; which he feels has incorporated inaccurate science.<\/p>\n<p>Al Gore&#8217;s film \u2064claims that humanity is \u2064triggering a dire climate crisis that necessitates global action. But Mr. Clauser contends: &#8220;&#8216;Climate change&#8217; is actually very dishonest disinformation that has been presented by various\u2062 politicians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>He pinpoints a 2013 Physics Today <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.aip.org\/physicstoday\/article\/65\/3\/31\/414011\/Predicting-and-managing-extreme-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> by Jane Lubchenco and Thomas Karl as pivotal in shaping the narrative, especially during the\u2062 period when &#8220;g<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nobel laureate John Clauser challenges climate models, highlighting a neglected variable.
