Kennedy Jr. Takes on the Democratic Party<\/h2>\n<p>On\u200c a steamy summer morning, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. strode into a hotel conference room in \u200cColumbia, South Carolina, amid a barnstorming town \u200chall tour of \u200ba state \u200dwhere Joe Biden won close to 49 percent of the vote in the 2020 Democratic primary.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy spoke \u200dabout his \u20642024 presidential campaign. Democrat pundits say he is a \u2062fringe candidate who spreads conspiracy theories. Polls show him with\u200b the \u2062highest favorability rating\u2064 of any presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There is no \u200bpath for Mr.\u200c Kennedy to defeat President Biden, \u2064critics claim, despite questions about President Joe\u2064 Biden&#8217;s age and mental fitness, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidenomics-why-biden-gets-poor-ratings-on-the-economy-despite-improving-numbers\/\" title=\"Bidenomics: Despite economic progress, Biden's low ratings persist.\">low\u2063 approval ratings<\/a>, and \u200csurveys\u2062 showing that Americans are concerned about the economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Democratic National Committee voted to give\u200b its full support to the president.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy agrees that unseating an incumbent president in the \u200bsame party is a daunting\u200c challenge but \u200ddisagrees \u200cwith doubters\u200b who say\u2063 he\u200d has no chance \u200bof securing the nomination.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 presidential nominee \u200dwill be announced during \u200cthe Democratic National Convention in Chicago next summer. Until \u200dthen, Mr. Kennedy\u200d intends to continue to press his case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2062DNC has around $2 billion, and they&#8217;re spending that\u2064 money generously\u2063 to try to marginalize\u200b me in many ways, but I think most Democrats care about one thing more than\u2063 anything \u200celse, \u2062which is to beat Donald Trump,\u201d Mr. Kennedy told The Epoch Times. \u201cI \u2063think \u2063President Biden \u200ccannot do\u2064 that. Kennedy, who was \u2064assassinated in 1963; and the\u200c son of Robert \u2064F. Kennedy, who was shot and killed after\u200d a campaign speech while running for president\u200c in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>During\u2064 his town halls and meet-and-greets, Mr. Kennedy tells stories from time spent with his uncle and father and connects them to his presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2062 wants to continue his father\u2019s legacy\u200c of\u200c uniting\u2063 Americans from all economic\u200b classes and ethnic backgrounds.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Robert F. He talked about uncomfortable issues but talked about the truth. I think people are tired of \u200cbeing lied to by \u2063the government, by the media,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad ran against an incumbent president \u2063in his own party (Lyndon \u200bB. Johnson) during\u200b a divisive time. I\u2019m running against a larger challenge because\u2064 I am facing an \u200bentire \u2064infrastructure \u200bthat is against me, from my \u2062own party and Big Tech and the pharmaceutical industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An environmental\u2063 attorney and the founder of Children\u2019s Health \u200cDefense, Mr. Kennedy is widely known for being outspoken\u2064 about the health risks of vaccines. (Public Domain)<\/div>\n<div class=\"bg-comp-divider h-px\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The candidate, however, has said that he \u2064won\u2019t do that, reiterating that stance\u2063 over the\u2064 last month in town halls and meet-and-greets in \u2064South Carolina, Virginia, and New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Democrat. This is my identity, but I want my party\u200b back,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said. \u201cI\u2019m running\u2064 for president because the Democratic Party has lost its way. I want to remind \u2062the Democratic Party of what\u2063 we are supposed to represent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA focus on the\u2062 middle class and labor,\u200d the \u200cwell-being of minorities, \u200ba focus on the environment, civil liberties, and freedom of\u200c speech.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488323-PQ-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<p>He frequently talks about &#8220;unity&#8221; and \u201chealing the\u200c divide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI intend to bridge this toxic \u200cpolarization that is really destroying our\u200b country and tearing us \u200dapart,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>He \u200dcalled his campaign a \u201cpeaceful \u200dinsurgency\u201d that \u200che hopes will appeal\u2064 to conservative\u200d Republicans,\u200b independents, moderates, and liberal Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the 35 years I spent as one of the leaders of\u2062 the \u200benvironmental \u2062movement in our country, I was the only environmentalist who was \u2064regularly going on Fox News. I went on\u200c Sean Hannity repeatedly\u2014Bill O&#8217;Reilly, too,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to talk to media members \u2063and\u200d voters who share differing opinions than\u200b mine, because \u200chow else are you going to persuade?<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:598px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A \u200dsupporter of Robert F. What keeps us apart are things that\u200b are \u2063rather trivial. We let them feed this toxic polarization. We need to talk. We need\u2063 to have\u2063 conversations with people from a wide range of views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Days after a House hearing on censorship in\u200d July that\u2064 saw \u200dDemocrats attempt \u2064to block Mr. Kennedy from\u200c testifying, a Harvard-Harris poll showed that he has a higher favorability rating than any other 2024 presidential \u2063candidate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488621-Elements-FACTS-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>Mr. Kennedy saw a favorable rating \u2064of 47 percent and an\u2064 unfavorable mark of\u200c 26 percent, according to a survey of 2,068 registered voters, conducted July 19\u201320 and released\u2064 on July 23. Former President Trump carried a favorability rating of 45 percent compared with an\u200b unfavorability number of\u2064 49 percent. Florida \u2063Gov. Ron DeSantis had a 40 percent favorable rating and 37 \u2062percent unfavorable, and President Biden&#8217;s rating was \u200d39 percent favorable and 53 percent unfavorable.<\/div>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy\u200d also had the highest net favorability of all\u2062 2024 presidential candidates in a June poll from\u2062 The\u2064 Economist\/YouGov.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy campaign manager Dennis Kucinich is a former Democratic congressman from Ohio who ran for president in 2004 and 2008. He believes Mr. Kennedy can &#8220;rebuild and save&#8221;\u200c the country and \u2063that there is a path to victory \u2063over Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is the\u200c only Democrat who can reach across the political spectrum, which means he can\u200c win\u2062 in 2024,\u201d Mr. Kucinich told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConservatives,\u200d liberals, independents, and libertarians are responding to \u2062this campaign because of the unique qualities of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and \u2064because there is\u200b an understanding he stands\u200b for unity, freedom, truth, \u2063and authenticity. That is what\u2019s resonating with people.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488333-Artboard-PQ-RFK-jr..png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<h2>&#8216;Poison, Hatred, and Vitriol&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>When asked about\u2062 President Biden and former President Trump, Mr. Kennedy is measured in his responses.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2064  \u201cI\u2019m not going to attack other people\u200b personally,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said. \u201cI\u2062 don\u2019t \u200cthink it\u2019s good for our\u2063 country.\u2063 And\u2063 what \u200cI\u2019m\u200c trying to do in this race is bring people together, is try to bridge the \u2064divide\u200b between Americans.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy has repeatedly expressed \u200chis disapproval of \u200bPresident Biden\u2019s job \u2064performance, but he has\u200b refrained from \u200cpersonal attacks about the 80-year-old\u2019s mental fitness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there\u2019s \u200da policy \u200cI disagree with\u2014like the war, like censorship, the\u200c lockdowns\u2014I\u2019m going to criticize those, but \u200cI\u2019m not going to attack him as\u200c a man,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will say, whether he&#8217;s up to it or not,\u2064 whether he&#8217;s making his own decisions\u2014the decisions\u2062 that are coming out of the White House\u2062 are bad\u2062 decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Biden is\u200b not scheduled\u200d to appear in Democrat primary debates, a decision Mr. Kennedy believes the\u2064 president should \u2064reconsider.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u200c think it would be better if we have a \u200cdemocracy where every candidate debates,\u201d Mr.\u2062 Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suppose he is making a strategic decision that&#8217;s based upon his own interest, but I think we\u2019re living in a period \u200bwhen people \u2064have lost faith in the democratic process, and they think the system \u2062is rigged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden and President\u2062 Trump should \u200ctake the debate stage as a sign of respect for \u200cAmerican \u2064voters, \u200dMr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"mb-4 flex flex-col gap-4\">\n<div class=\"flex gap-3\">\n<div class=\"flex-1\">\n<div class=\"relative\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.26%\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"text-comp-caption text-[14px] leading-[18px]\">Then-President Donald Trump and then-Democratic presidential candidate \u200cJoe Biden participate\u200b in the final presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.,\u200b on Oct. 22, 2020. I think it would be much better for our democracy, and we&#8217;d be\u200c a\u200c better \u200cexample for the world and improve our\u2062 credibility with\u2063 the American people if we actually allowed democracy to \u2062function and all the candidates participated in debates, and town\u200b halls, and\u200c retail politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt \u200dis important\u2064 for the Democratic Party that there is a primary debate. Ultimately, a Democrat will debate a Republican, and the Republican\u200d will likely be Trump. He is probably the most successful debater in this country since Lincoln\u200d Douglas,\u201d said Mr. \u200dKennedy, noting how President Trump defeated \u200ca crowded pool of\u2064 Republican primary candidates in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has his\u200c own technique that people like.\u200d It\u2019s like going into a prize \u2062fight. \u200cYou need \u200cpractice, and that \u200cusually happens\u200d in the primary,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsking the president to not debate in the primary\u2063 is like asking a \u200cprizefighter to practice by \u200bsitting on the couch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In \u2062South Carolina, Virginia, and New York City, Mr. Kennedy talked to voters about the economy and issues \u2062on which he disagrees with \u200cPresident Biden.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488343-Elements-PQ-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<p>In Charleston, he criticized\u2064 the president for continued financial support to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the big \u200bproblems we have in our \u200cfederal government is the addiction to war,\u201d Mr. \u2062Kennedy said. \u201cPresident Biden went to Congress and asked for another $24 billion for the Ukraine \u200bWar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve\u200b spent $8 trillion \u200bdollars on \u2063wars since 9\/11. If we kept that money home, we would\u2019ve had child\u200d care for every American. We would have free college education for every American. (Right) Syringes \u200bof Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at a vaccination site\u2062 in Los Angeles on Feb. 16,\u2064 2021. \u200d(Brian Blanco\/Getty Images, Apu\u200d Gomes\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/div>\n<div class=\"bg-comp-divider h-px\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>About gun control, Mr. Kennedy said, \u201cI\u2062 do not \u2063believe that, within that Second\u200c Amendment, there is anything we can meaningfully do to reduce the \u200dtrade and \u200dthe ownership of\u2062 guns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody \u2062who tells you that they\u2019re \u2062going to reduce gun violence through gun control at this point, I don\u2019t think is being realistic,\u201d he said. \u201cI think we have to think about other ways to reduce that violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy did note \u200bthat he would sign an assault weapons ban if he were president and the legislation was placed on his desk.<\/p>\n<p>A vocal opponent of the pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Kennedy vowed at a town hall \u2063in Brooklyn on\u2063 Sept. 1 \u2064that he \u2063would ban \u2062pharmaceutical advertising.<\/p>\n<p>He is outspoken about the \u200cdangers of\u200d the COVID-19 vaccine for some in the population \u2064who \u200dwere coerced\u200c to take them,\u200d but\u2063 he told the Epoch Times that he is not \u201canti-vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never\u2064 been anti-vaccine,\u201d he \u200dsaid. \u2063\u201cI\u2019ve said that hundreds and hundreds\u200d of times, but it doesn\u2019t matter because that is a \u200dway of silencing me. Using that pejorative to describe me is a way of silencing or marginalizing me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy has said that, initially, he was not \u200cin favor \u2062of \u2063former President \u2063Trump\u2019s\u200d border wall. But after seeing the border firsthand in Arizona in \u2062July, he changed his mind. (Mario\u2064 Tama\/Getty \u2063Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy visited \u200bthe Arizona\u2013California border with Mexico in early June and met with illegal \u200bimmigrants, Border \u200bPatrol agents, and \u200dother \u2063stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Democratic Party\u200c thinks our function \u2063should be welcoming\u2064 all immigrants into the country no matter\u2062 what, and to basically open\u200c the borders. And the experiment has \u2063been\u200c a disaster, a humanitarian catastrophe,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched it firsthand. I watched\u200b 300 \u200cpeople come across the border and then be processed and sent to locations all over the country with court \u200cdates seven years down the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s now seven\u200d million people who have come across illegally\u200b and \u200dhave\u2063 no legal \u2062status \u2062in\u200c this country.\u2064 Those people are very vulnerable now to unscrupulous employers who are\u2062 paying them $5 and $6 an hour,\u201d\u200d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy \u2062called the Biden administration\u2019s open border policy \u201ca \u2063way of funding a multibillion-dollar drug and human trafficking operation for the Mexican drug cartels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs president,\u200d I \u2063will secure the border,\u2064 which \u200bwill end the cartel\u2019s drug trafficking economy. \u200dI will build wide doors\u2062 for those who\u2064 wish to \u200center legally so that the \u200cU.S. can continue to be a beacon to\u200d the world where diversity and culture make us\u2063 great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u200d \u200d\u200d \u201cImmigration is good for our country, but this kind of\u200b immigration is unfair to everybody,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Ending the Ukraine War<\/h2>\n<p>    Mr.\u2062 Kennedy \u2062has called for de-escalating the war \u200bin Ukraine. Russia can&#8217;t afford \u200cit,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said. \u201cIt would be like \u2063us\u2063 losing a war to Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part\u200b of his reasoning for ending\u2063 the Ukraine war, Mr. Kennedy referenced his \u2064uncle, President John \u200bF. Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My uncle Jack said\u200d that\u2064 the primary job of an American President of\u200b the United States is to keep\u2064 the country out of war. He kept out of\u2064 Vietnam. He sent only 16,000 military advisers there\u2014mainly \u200dGreen Berets,\u201d\u2064 Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2063   \u201cIn \u200cOctober 1963, he learned that one of his Green Berets had died, and he asked \u200bhis aide to give him a combat \u2062casualty list, and the aide came back\u200b and\u2064 said 75 had died so far. He said: &#8216;That&#8217;s too many.&#8217;\u201d<br \/>\n   \u2063 \u200c<\/p>\n<h2>The\u200c American Dream<\/h2>\n<p>    When \u200bit comes to supporting labor unions, Mr. Kennedy&#8217;s ideas are similar to\u2063 President Biden&#8217;s.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn my administration, you \u2064can\u200c expect vigorous action by the Justice Department and the Department of Labor to enforce laws against union-busting\u200d and unfair labor practices,\u201d \u200bMr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also raise the minimum wage so that unions \u2064have a higher\u2063 floor from which to bargain. We will negotiate \u2063trade treaties \u2064that don\u2019t pit American workers \u200bagainst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-robert-f-kennedy-jr-wants-his-party-back\/\" title=\"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. seeks party ownership.\">low-wage\u2062 foreign\u200d workers<\/a> in a race to the bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At his campaign stops. Mr.\u2064 Kennedy likes to talk about the flourishing economic period the nation experienced after World War II.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up during the\u2064 heyday of American economic prosperity. It was\u200d in the 1950s and 1960s\u200d that \u200cthe archetype of the American\u2064 Dream was\u200d born. If you work hard, you should\u2064 have a decent life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy said that, if elected president, he \u200dwould create a 3 percent\u2063 mortgage for Americans guaranteed by the government and funded by the sale of tax-free bonds. He would also work to make it \u200cless\u2062 profitable for large corporations to own single-family homes \u200din the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have \u200da\u200b rich \u200cuncle who co-signs your mortgage, you will get a lower interest rate because the bank looks at his credit rating. I\u2019m going\u2063 to give everyone\u200c a \u200drich uncle, and his name is Uncle Sam,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said\u200d at a recent town hall in Spartanburg, South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>The first 500,000 of those 3 percent mortgages would be reserved for teachers, he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488596-Artboard-PQ-Average-income.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<p>Curbing credit\u200b card debt is\u200d another way to help \u2064more Americans achieve home ownership \u2062and become more financially comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany Americans \u2062are living paycheck to paycheck. The average income in this country is $5,000 less than the average cost of living. What that means is people have to make up the difference by \u200dputting those\u2064 expenses on credit cards,\u201d Mr. Kennedy told a crowd \u2062in Richmond, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recently \u2064reached a milestone in this country \u2062with more\u200c than $1 trillion in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/george-santos-arrested-indicted-on-13-counts-relating-to-fraud-money-laundering-and-other-charges\/\" title=\"George Santos arrested for 13 counts of fraud, money laundering, and other charges.\">personal credit card debt<\/a>,\u201d Mr. Kennedy \u2062said, \u200cadding that many creditors are charging interest rates\u2062 of 22 percent and \u200bhigher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it was the mafia, it would be\u200b loan \u200csharking,\u200b and they would \u2062go to jail, but for \u200dbanks and credit card companies, it is considered the cost of doing business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before concluding his remarks about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-campaign-fundraiser-for-rep-santos-indicted-after-allegedly-impersonating-top-house-aide\/\" title=\"Ex-campaign fundraiser for Rep. Santos indicted for posing as high-ranking House aide.\">credit\u2062 card debt<\/a>, \u2062Mr. Kennedy \u200bposed a\u2063 question to the audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho \u2063do you think owns many of \u2064those companies?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n    <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard. They\u2063 are strip mining \u2063the\u2064 wealth of the\u2063 American public, and \u2064their political clout \u2062allows them to do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Primary Season<\/h2>\n<p>    Under a new format, South Carolina \u2063will hold\u2063 the first\u2064 Democratic presidential primary on\u200d Feb. \u20623.\u200d Earlier \u2062this \u2062year, encouraged\u2064 by President Biden, the DNC voted\u2063 to strip the Iowa caucus of its traditional\u200d lead-off spot in the party&#8217;s presidential nominating process and\u2062 replace it\u2062 with \u2064South Carolina.<br \/>\n \u200c\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>In late August, as Mr. Kennedy traveled around South\u200c Carolina, he \u200cstopped in Orangeburg to officially open a statewide campaign office.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Robert\u200b F. Under the Democrats&#8217; new calendar, which differs \u2064from the \u2062Republicans&#8217; primary calendar, it\u200c would vote with\u2064 Nevada on Feb. 6.<\/p>\n<p>Because of\u200d the move, President \u2062Biden\u2019s name \u2064might not appear on New\u200b Hampshire&#8217;s\u2062 Democrat primary ballot.<\/p>\n<p>The DNC rules panel gave New Hampshire\u2062 and Iowa until Sept. 1 to comply with new rules or face possible sanctions.
