If signed into law, this bill would require judges to consider \u2062a parent&#8217;s opinion \u2064regarding their child&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-has-signed-40-executive-orders-and-actions-since-taking-office\/\" title=\"Biden has signed 40 executive orders and actions since taking office\">gender identity<\/a> when making custody decisions.<\/p>\n<h3>Recognizing the Importance of \u200bGender \u200cIdentity<\/h3>\n<p>Under current California law, the court must consider various factors, including \u2064the health, safety,\u200b and welfare of the child, when determining custody arrangements. A.B. 957 seeks to expand these considerations by including a parent&#8217;s affirmation of their \u2064child&#8217;s gender identity as part of the child&#8217;s overall well-being.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, officially known as the Transgender, Gender-Diverse, \u200cand Intersex Youth Empowerment Act, was introduced\u2062 by Democratic\u200c Assemblywoman Lori D. Wilson. It underwent amendments in \u2062both the Assembly and the Senate before being \u200bpassed by the Assembly once \u2063again. Research shows that \u200dfamily acceptance plays \u2062a crucial role in combating depression and substance abuse among LGBTQ+ \u200cindividuals.
