Their religious exemptions were denied. <\/p>\n<p>Michael \u200dKane\u200d from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/teacher_choice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@teacher_choice<\/a> was one of the 10. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn&#8217;t even scratch\u2064 the surface for the \u200dthousands of people who&#8217;s\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jx2qtVGpxO\">pic.twitter.com\/jx2qtVGpxO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Stella Escobedo \u2063(@StellaEscoTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StellaEscoTV\/status\/1699856329995874460?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The case involved educators \u2062who sued New York City\u2062 after they were fired for not \u200cwanting to get the vaccination \u2063and city officials rejected\u2062 their religious \u2063exemptions. <\/p>\n<p>The vaccine mandate in New York City was in effect from \u200bOctober 1st, 2021 until February 10th,\u200b 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Reportedly,\u2063 more\u2064 than 1,750 city workers were fired for \u2064refusing\u2064 to get vaccinated, which\u2063 include 36 members of\u200d the New York City \u200cPolice \u200bDepartment (NYPD) and over 950 \u200cpublic school employees. <\/p>\n<p>Sujata \u2062Gibson,\u200b the lead attorney in the case, released a statement\u2064 after the ruling calling\u2062 it a\u2063 victory for the educators fight for relief. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis victory is a watershed moment\u200b in the teachers\u2019 two-year \u200dfight for relief,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cThe court\u2019s decision not only \u200cgrants relief to \u200dthese ten teachers, but it also sets important precedent \u200dfor all\u200b other teachers denied religious accommodation.\u201d  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last year, Porzio \u200bhad ruled that the city\u2019s policy was enforced \u201cillegally\u201d and\u200b workers who\u2062 were fired for refusing to comply must be\u2064 \u201cimmediately reinstated\u201d with \u2063backpay. However, the city eventually appealed \u2062the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>It is unknown \u200cwhether the recent ruling will \u2064be applied or\u2062 appealed once again. <\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
