The data shows \u200cthat we have a \u200dlower\u2062 gun death rate here in California \u200bthan we do\u200d in other states. \u2064But\u2064 this was \u2064one of the\u2064 big things that was still out there,\u201d Gabriel told the press.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the law is passed, the tax \u2064would be raised by 11%\u2063 which is \u2064the highest\u2063 tax imposed by the federal government\u2062 on firearms. <\/p>\n<p>The bill would not apply for people who buy the guns but instead \u200bwould make the sellers pay the tax. However, most\u200d businesses will raise their prices to\u2062 pay the expense of the \u2064tax. <\/p>\n<p>The new law would reportedly also not apply to police\u2064 officers or businesses with \u200dsales of less than \u2062$5,000 in a\u200c three-month period.<\/p>\n<p>The bill now heads to Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), who has until October 14<sup>th<\/sup> \u200dto decide whether \u200bto sign it\u200c into law or veto it.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200drecent years, Newsom has been on a effort to improve gun safety, signing legislation last year that \u200dallows private citizens to enforce the state\u2019s ban\u200b on assault weapons by filing\u2063 civil lawsuits against \u200canyone who distributes the\u200d weapons, parts\u2063 that can be used to build the weapons,\u200c guns\u2062 without \u200dserial numbers, or .50-caliber rifles.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
