Lindsey Graham Surprised by Grand Jury Recommendation<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. However, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis ultimately decided\u200b not \u2062to charge Graham, despite indicting Trump and 18 others last month.<\/p>\n<p>Graham, speaking to reporters\u2063 in \u200chis home \u200bstate,\u200d emphasized that his actions were in line with his role as a U.S.\u2064 senator and\u2064 chair of the Judiciary Committee. He expressed concern about the legal system \u2064being used as a political tool and stated, &#8220;I think the system\u200c in this country is \u200cgetting off the rails, and we have to be careful not to use the legal system as a political tool.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The senator admitted that he\u2064 did not read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lindsey-graham-totally-surprised-fulton-county-grand-jury-recommended-his-indictment\/\" title=\"Lindsey Graham 'shocked' by grand jury's indictment recommendation.\">full grand jury report<\/a> but was taken aback by the recommendation for his prosecution.\u200b He clarified that he had no further communication with the jury members after a two-hour \u2063conversation \u200cin November of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Graham asserted, &#8220;It&#8217;s over \u200cfor me. I was totally surprised&#8230; I never suggested anybody set aside the election. I\u200b never said, &#8216;Go find votes.&#8217; \u200dI never said\u200c anything other than trying to find \u200chow the mail-in balloting system worked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Testimony and\u200b Beliefs<\/h3>\n<p>When asked about his testimony before the special grand jury, Graham revealed that he \u2064was questioned about a phone call he made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger after the\u200b 2020 election. He was asked whether\u200c he believed the election was stolen at the time \u2064of the call. Graham responded, &#8220;I didn&#8217;t know&#8230; the state \u200bof play of the fraud allegations&#8221; at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Graham also expressed his belief \u2063that Trump will likely be \u2063the nominee for the 2024 election against \u2064President Joe Biden. He \u200cpledged his support for \u2064Trump if he receives the nomination. It is worth noting that Graham\u200d previously fought the subpoena by the special grand jury all the way\u2063 to the Supreme Court, but his request was ultimately \u200brejected on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n<h3>The Special Grand Jury Investigation<\/h3>\n<p>The 26-member special grand jury, separate from the \u200done that indicted Trump and his associates, spent approximately seven months gathering testimony\u2064 from over 75 \u2063witnesses as part of their investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and 18 other associates, including former attorneys, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, \u200cand former Justice Department official Jeffery Clark, were indicted \u200clast\u2062 month in a 41-count racketeering \u200ccase. The \u2062indictment alleges that they conspired to overturn the results of the election in Georgia. The\u2062 focus\u200b of the indictment is a separate post-election call to Raffensperger, \u2064during\u2064 which Trump urged him to &#8220;find&#8221; a specific number of votes needed to win the state&#8217;s election.<\/p>\n<p>A trial for up to three co-defendants who \u2063invoked their speedy\u200b trial rights could begin as early as Oct. 23.
