The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/alerts-advisories-safety-information\/fda-expands-warning-consumers-about-toxic-yellow-oleander-purported-be-nuez-de-la-india-certain\">FDA is advising<\/a> \u2063 consumers to stop using Nut Diet Max \u2064brand (seeds or capsules) or Todorganic Natural\u2064 Products brand (seeds) products marketed\u200b as Nuez de \u2062la India because they \u2064may contain &#8220;highly toxic&#8221; yellow oleander, according to\u2062 the FDA.<\/p>\n<p>The products&#8217; manufacturer announced the recall and urged consumers\u2064 who \u200dpurchased \u2062the \u200bproducts not to \u200bconsume them and to return them to the place\u200b of purchase.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland Department of Health\u2063 (MDH) launched\u2062 an investigation into Nuez de la India \u200bseeds when\u200d a person in the state was \u2062hospitalized\u2063 after consuming the Nut Diet \u2062Max Nuez\u200b de \u2064la India seeds sold by Miami-based OBC Group Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the\u200b investigation, Nuez de la India\u200c seeds\u2063 were said to come \u200dfrom Aleurites\u200d moluccanus, a \u200bharmless flowering tree more recognizable\u200b to consumers when\u2063 referred to as candlenut, candleberry, Indian\u200d walnut, kemiri,\u200b or varnish tree.<\/p>\n<p>However, health officials\u200c recently discovered the supplement is actually comprised of yellow oleander\u200c seeds containing cardiac glycosides.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5488315\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08\/id5488315-NutDietMaxSampleSeedComparison.png\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><\/p>\n<p>    \u200c  \u200d  The FDA urges customers to \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-judge-apparently-looking-to-stop-trumps-big-indictment-speech\/\" title=\"New York Judge Apparently Looking to Stop Trump's Big Indictment Speech\">exercise caution due<\/a> to the similar appearance of nontoxic\u2064 candlenut \u2063seeds and \u200dhighly \u200dtoxic yellow oleander seeds. (FDA)<br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<h2>Side \u2062Effects of Yellow Oleander<\/h2>\n<p>Cardiac glycosides are naturally occurring \u2064steroids that stimulate the heart. They are used to treat \u2063conditions like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/chemistry\/cardiac-glycoside#:~:text=Cardiac%20glycosides%20are%20naturally%20occurring,at%20the%20C%2D3%20position.\">atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter<\/a>. Even small amounts of cardiac glycosides resulting from yellow \u2062oleander \u200bplant poisoning can lead to toxicity, \u2064resulting\u2064 in things like\u200d abnormal heart rhythms, sleepiness,\u2064 vision issues, and stomachaches.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FDA advisory, \u200dingesting yellow oleander can cause neurological, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular \u200cdamage that can be severe\u200c or even fatal. Symptoms of poisoning\u200d may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nausea.<\/li>\n<li>Vomiting.<\/li>\n<li>Dizziness.<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhea.<\/li>\n<li>Abdominal pain.<\/li>\n<li>Cardiac changes.<\/li>\n<li>Dysrhythmia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite its \u2064toxicity, yellow oleander is \u2063used globally in ethnomedicinal practices for treating certain diseases. It has also been \u200bused agriculturally as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taylorfrancis.com\/chapters\/edit\/10.1201\/b23017-23\/thevetia-peruviana-yellow-oleander-subhrajit-banerjee-senjuti-banerjee-kasturi-sarkar-parames-sil\">biopesticide, insecticide, and fungicide<\/a>.
