J.D. Vance Introduces \u2062&#8221;Freedom to Breathe&#8221; Act<\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, September 5, Ohio Republican Sen.\u2063 J.D. Vance introduced his &#8220;Freedom \u200dto Breathe&#8221;\u200d act. This act aims \u2063to force\u200d Democrats to take a stand on wearing masks\u200b once \u200bagain. However, when Vance attempted to bring the issue to \u200bthe\u200d Senate floor\u2064 on Thursday, he was blocked by Democratic Sen. \u200bEd Markey.<\/p>\n<h3>Markey Attacks Vance&#8217;s Bill<\/h3>\n<p>Vance put the issue up for a unanimous consent vote on Thursday, but Markey attacked the bill, calling it a &#8220;red \u2064herring&#8221; and claiming it \u200dwasn&#8217;t about &#8220;freedom.&#8221; Markey\u200b argued that the bill would take power away from local governments to respond to future situations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">WATCH: Led by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenVancePress?\">@SenVancePress<\/a>, Senate Republicans \u200cvote to PROHIBIT mask mandates in our schools and on public\u2063 transportation.\u200c  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/C1qRBmDsOa\">https:\/\/t.co\/C1qRBmDsOa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senate \u200cRepublicans (@SenateGOP)\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenateGOP\/status\/1699838230076747898?\">September 7,\u2062 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is\u2062 quite\u2064 a novel approach for a Democrat.\u200b After \u200call, Democrats typically stand against laws that\u2062 allow for local control and usually push policies that force top-down solutions on everyone. \u2063But,\u2064 it appears\u200b that &#8220;local control&#8221; \u2062can be invoked when it is convenient to oppose\u2062 a bill proposing more freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, this\u200d is the same Sen. \u200cMarkey who in 2020 introduced a mask bill \u200dof his own, but it was\u2063 one that \u200bwould require states to\u2063 implement forced masking on every American nationwide. Talk about taking away local control!<\/p>\n<h3>Vance\u2064 Defends His Bill<\/h3>\n<p>On Tuesday, Sen. Vance\u2062 addressed the\u2064 claims that his bill is just Republican rhetoric without substance.\u2064 Appearing on Fox News, he spoke \u200cabout\u200c the \u200dneed to end &#8220;COVID tyranny&#8221; and \u2063highlighted instances where mask \u2063mandates were being reintroduced despite claims that they wouldn&#8217;t be.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">No more mask\u2063 mandates for \u200bschool kids or airline passengers. \u200cThis week I&#8217;ll force a vote on my legislation to ban federal mask mandates. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HT5Fg7yai7\">pic.twitter.com\/HT5Fg7yai7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 J.D.\u200c Vance (@JDVance1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JDVance1\/status\/1699241678840664444?\">September \u20626, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We tried mask mandates once in this country. If masks don&#8217;t work and could be harmful, why enforce mandates?<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if \u2063Democrats\u200d truly oppose mask mandates, why resist\u200c voting for Vance&#8217;s bill? It seems like\u200c a no-brainer.
