Sramek\u2063 \u201cfell in love\u201d with Solano County \u200bafter\u200d going on fishing trips there, and he and his wife recently bought a home in the area where they plan to raise \u2064their toddler and \u200cnew baby on the way.<\/p>\n<p>In the last \u200cfew years, Sramek\u2019s unassuming \u2062company Flannery Associates has spent more\u200b than $800 million buying up farms and undeveloped land with the idea \u200bof building\u200b a new city.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>His investors are some of \u2064the richest people \u2063in Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The first investment came from Patrick Collison, the Irish chief executive of Stripe, \u200ba payments \u200ccompany.\u2062 Another investment came \u2062from the king of venture capital Marc \u2063Andreessen of Andreessen Horowitz. Laurene \u2064Powell\u200d Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, and LinkedIn co-founder\u2064 Reid Hoffman also <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/silicon-valley-tech-investors-new-city-housing-35f91416dd7d84ecb03ed08199d87dd5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invested<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The group went about their plan quite secretively until\u200d late \u200dlast month, when The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/25\/business\/land-purchases-solano-county.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> the investors\u2019 intentions.<\/p>\n<p>Days after the Times shed light on who was\u200b behind the project, Sramek\u2019s \u200ccompany debuted a website\u200d called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/californiaforever.com\/\">California Forever<\/a>\u201d explaining the plan for the new city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, our company has been quiet about \u2064our \u2064activities,\u201d the \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/university-of-texas-med-school-read-robin-diangelo-ta-nehisi-coates-1619-project-to-become-anti-racist\/\" title=\"University Of Texas Med School: Read Robin DiAngelo, Ta-Nehisi Coates, 1619 Project To Become \u2018Anti-Racist\u2019\">website reads<\/a>.\u2062 \u201cThis has, understandably, created interest, concern, and speculation. Now that we\u2019re no longer limited by confidentiality, we are eager to begin a conversation about \u200bthe future of Solano County a conversation with\u2064 all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The goal, according to the website,\u200c is a \u201cnew community that attracts new employers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/building-utopia-california-billionaires-reveal-blueprint-for-city-of-the-future\/\" title=\"California billionaires unveil blueprint for future city utopia.\">creates \u2064good paying local\u200d jobs<\/a>,\u2063 builds homes in walkable neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u200ccompany \u200cis now making the rounds among voters and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rush-limbaugh-laid-to-rest-at-private-ceremony-in-missouri\/\" title=\"Rush Limbaugh Laid To Rest At Private Ceremony In Missouri\">local politicians<\/a>, trying to get them on board with the plan.<\/p>\n<p>Originally,\u2062 the wealthy\u200d investor group \u200cplanned to buy up only about 10,000\u2062 acres, \u200cbut since 2018 \u200btheir\u200d sprawling land grab has gobbled up more than 50,000 \u200bacres or\u200c 78 \u200dsquare miles \u200din Solano County,\u2062 an area almost twice as big as San Francisco.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Sramek\u2019s company was more \u200caggressive than simply buying up land too.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the spring, Flannery made residents bristle\u2062 when it sued several landowners, accusing them of conspiring to inflate prices. The lawsuit attracted public\u200b attention and raised \u200ceyebrows about the company\u2019s land buying spree.<\/p>\n<p>Solano County is also \u200chome to Travis Air Force Base, and elected\u200b officials were alarmed \u200bto see the surrounding land being bought up. The land \u2063grab even prompted \u2062national security concerns that drew an investigation from the \u200dFBI and Treasury Department. Both\u200b local and federal\u200b officials are still skeptical, and some \u2062are \u200bexasperated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FBI, the Department of Treasury, everyone has been doing\u200c work trying to figure out who these people\u2063 are,\u201d Representative Mike\u200c Thompson (D-CA), who \u2063represents a large part \u2063of Solano County, \u200bsaid last\u200b week after meeting with Sramek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir secrecy has caused a lot of problems, a lot of time, and a lot of expense,\u201d Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>The company has <a href=\"https:\/\/californiaforever.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assured<\/a> that the\u200b vast majority of its funding, 97%, comes from American investors, and only \u200dthe other \u20643% are investors in the United Kingdom and Ireland.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Another \u200dCalifornia Democrat, Representative \u2063John Garamendi, also met with Sramek recently.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt was\u2062 a continuation of my disappointment,\u201d Garamendi <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/travis-air-force-base-flannery-associates-land-purchase-solano-county\/13741758\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s very,\u2064 very clear \u2063that they do not have a\u200c plan for the 55,000 acres.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u200c of one small city in Solano County said she thinks \u2063the investors may simply want \u201cto create a city\u2062 for the elite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEconomic blight is everywhere. So why do you need to spend upwards of a billion dollars to create a brand new city\u2062 when you have \u200call these other things that can be\u2064 achieved throughout the Bay \u200bArea?\u201d said Mayor Princess Washington \u2064of Suisun City.<\/p>\n<p>In order to move forward with their grand plans for a new city, \u2064investors must win over \u200dvoters \u2063in\u2063 Solano County. Since the land has been protected from urban \u200csprawl since 1984, voters would have \u2064to approve a\u200b ballot initiative to allow the land to be rezoned for a city rather than agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/31\/business\/california-solano-county-city.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> their plan for a new utopian city could take decades.<\/p>\n<p>Given\u200d the massive\u2064 nature \u2063of the project and the skepticism from locals, they have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-mutes-talk-of-saudi-israel-deal-in-time-for-2024-election\/\" title=\"US avoids discussing potential Saudi-Israel deal ahead of 2024 election.\">long road \u2063ahead<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK \u200cHERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What if you had a billion dollars?
