Persistent voter concerns about Biden\u2019s age. And erosion in the president\u2019s standing among \u2063key minority \u2063groups, to name \u2062a few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s time\u200b to chill \u200dout, Messina \u2062said: \u201cHistorically, we\u2019re f***ing bedwetters,\u201d he told Politico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe grew up in the \u201980s and \u2063\u201990s \u200bwhen \u2063Republicans \u2063won elections all the time. \u2062Democrats had their hearts deeply\u2063 broken \u200bwhen \u2063Hillary [Clinton] lost and \u200dpeople \u2064didn\u2019t see that coming. And so, you know, we continually\u2062 believe\u200d every bad thing people say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Which is why The \u2064Messina Group put out\u200b the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000018a-686e-d0b1-a7eb-6e7fbde60000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">22-slide<\/a> pro-Biden presentation \u2063\u2014 even though, as Politico points out, Messina \u2064himself believes \u201c(1) no matter who\u200b the\u200d Republican is, it\u2019ll be a close election and (2) the most likely GOP nominee, Donald Trump, has a strong base and can absolutely \u2062win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the key points \u2014 as described by Politico \u2014 are \u2062inherently \u200bflawed.<\/p>\n<p>First, take Messina\u2019s \u200brisible idea that the fundamentals of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-tries-explain-bidenomics-giant-whiteboard-backfires-immediately\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden\u2019s economy are strong<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018misery index,\u2019 a bellwether economic measure that combines unemployment and inflation, is now\u2062 lower than it was ahead of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Obama\u2019s successful reelections,\u201d Politico said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMessina also gives credit to Biden and\u200d team for consistently selling\u2062 \u2018Bidenomics\u2019 to voters, even\u200b as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/obamas-old-campaign-manager-calls-dems-bedwetters-warns-trump-could-absolutely-win\/\" title=\"Obama's ex-campaign manager labels Dems 'nervous,' cautions Trump's potential victory.\">voter views \u2064remain stuck \u2014\u200b likening<\/a> it to the challenges Obama \u2064faced in 2012 as the economy slowly emerged from the Great Recession: \u2018People thought we were crazy to go as early\u2062 as we did with economic messaging.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem is how Messina is calculating the \u201cmisery index\u201d in the slide show \u2014 as being \u200c\u201clower than it was <strong>at the same point<\/strong> \u2064 in the Obama, \u200cClinton, &#038; Reagan presidencies before their successful\u200b reelections.\u201d\u200b (Emphasis mine.)<\/p>\n<p>First off, calculating the misery \u200cindex simply says\u200b where you\u200d are now, not what\u2019s already happened. Clinton, Obama and Reagan didn\u2019t \u2062have massive\u2062 shocks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-fresh-data-signals-us-economy-facing-stagnation\/\" title=\"New data suggests US economy stuck in 'stagnation'.\">labor market created<\/a> by a massive shutdown of the world economy accompanied\u2063 by a concomitant readjustment in the labor-force participation \u200brate.<\/p>\n<p>As\u200c for inflation,\u2062 that number tracks year-over-year. \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/key-inflation-metric-moves-wrong-way-new-govt-report-combines-income-stagnation-fuel-debt-spiral\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inflation<\/a> is slowing now because,\u2064 if it were still at the\u2064 same level it\u2063 was during Biden\u2019s first two\u200c terms in\u200b office, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg would have\u200d the anteroom to their offices choked with potential campaign advisers meeting with them to \u201cdiscuss options\u201d about 2024. Wink, wink.<\/p>\n<p>None of \u2064the three \u2063men \u2063Messina cites \u2064as examples had similar\u200d situations, although Reagan was forced to right the ship after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-jimmy-carter-2-0-biden-pay-6b-ransom-foreign-enemy-5-american-hostages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jimmy Carter\u2019s<\/a> disastrous four years in the Oval\u2062 Office, and Obama had the Great\u200b Recession to deal with. But in neither of those cases were Reagan \u2062or Obama handed a simple job: Let \u200cthe economy \u2064recover from COVID\u200d and get back to normal. That was Joe Biden\u2019s task. He couldn\u2019t do it. Raw misery index numbers say nothing about that.<\/p>\n<p>Next winning issue? Abortion: \u201cDemocrats have long played defense on so<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-underwater-on-top-issues-heading-into-midterms\/\" title=\"Dems Underwater on Top Issues Heading Into Midterms\">-called culture war issues<\/a>, but after the Dobbs \u2064ruling, Messina\u200b said,\u200d Democrats have <strong>an issue to rally \u200cvoters around unlike anything he\u2019s\u200b seen in modern\u2062 politics<\/strong>,\u201d Politico said.\u200c (Emphasis mine, \u200cagain.) \u201cAnd its staying power,\u200b he added, is only \u200bbuoyed by \u2062a Republican\u200c primary where a national abortion ban is continuingly [sic] put forward \u200das a litmus test.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, to win \u2062in 2024, you need\u200b \u201can \u200dissue to rally voters around unlike anything he\u2019s seen in modern politics?\u201d What about indicting the leader of the political opposition on a series of charges that makes the United States of America look like \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/flashback-bernie-sanders-offered-advice-socialist-dictator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Ortega\u2019s<\/a> Nicaragua? I don\u2019t \u200ccare how much money they spend. I don\u2019t care who their\u2064 nominee is. They\u2019re going to get zero electoral votes.\u200c The question is who\u2064 do they take the votes from?\u201d\u2064 Messina said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u200d just can\u2019t split\u200d away\u200d votes if you want to beat Donald Trump. And I just cannot \u200doverstate how crucial it \u200dis to make sure that we\u2063 don\u2019t create a vehicle that takes enough votes up to elect Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, in other words, Biden needs to tout his economic record (which is more awful than Messina thinks, given he\u2019s using\u200b an out-of-context datum to justify it), voters need to \u200bbe\u200c shocked into action by a once-in-a-lifetime political event like having Roe v.\u2062 Wade \u200coverturned (or having the former president and de facto leader\u2064 of the political opposition\u200c indicted four times and counting on\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-alvin-bragg-fighting-tooth-nail-keep-control-trump-case-block-feds-getting-involved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flimsy pretexts<\/a> at an \u2063all too convenient time), you \u2064need to stress to voters that they\u2019ve gotta choose Pepsi\u2062 or Coke (even\u2064 though Pepsi\u2062 can\u2019t seem to remember\u200d that it\u2019s even \u200da cola anymore), and, \u200dfor heaven\u2019s sake, you can\u2019t bring another soda into the mix (even though several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/view-host-freaks-curveball-cause-bidens-presidential-reign-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other candidates<\/a> \u2014 or soft drinks, in\u200b this metaphor \u2014 appear likely to \u200cshow up in the presidential vending\u2063 machine).
