Ms. Weaver was quoted as saying by <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/nexstar_media_wire\/4193041-largest-number-of-claims-ever-filed-17m-people-validated-to-receive-facebook-settlement-payment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>.\n  <\/div>\n<p>The total \u2064number of eligible claimants is yet to be finalized as there are \u2063still one million claims awaiting review.\u2063 About 10 million\u200b claims have been \u200crejected due to being duplicates or potentially fraudulent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    Eligible applicants are those who lived in the United States between May. 24, 2007, to Dec. 22, 2022, and must have been a \u200dFacebook user at any time during this period, according to the\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/facebookuserprivacysettlement.com\/#faqs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settlement \u200dwebpage<\/a>.\n  <\/div>\n<p>Applicants\u200c were \u2063required to specify if the claim is for a &#8220;current account, a deleted account, or a combination of both.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    It stated that the settlement class does not include people who are \u201cdirectors, officers,\u2062 legal representatives, alleged co-conspirators, and agents\u201d of Facebook owner Meta or its subsidiaries and affiliates.<br \/>\n   \u200b<\/p>\n<h2>Lawyer\u2019s Fee\u2014Up to\u200c $181.25 Million<\/h2>\n<p>    \u200b    Attorneys for the plaintiffs have\u2062 another week\u2062 to submit additional documents before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/facebook-class-action-lawsuit-worth-725-million-holding-final-hearing-for-payments-in-two-days\/\" title=\"Final hearing for 5 million Facebook class-action lawsuit payments in two days.\">court grants final approval<\/a> to the settlement, according to the report. Any\u200d appeals related\u200d to the case may cause delays in the payment process.\n  <\/div>\n<p>The $725 million\u2064 will not be directly distributed to eligible claimants. Instead, a lawyer\u2019s fee of up \u200cto $181.25 million will initially be deducted, which brings down the settlement \u2062amount\u2064 to \u2064$543.75 million.<\/p>\n<p>Next, an \u200cadministrative fee will be deducted to meet the cost of the administration appointed by the court to carry out \u2064the settlement process. It \u2064remains unclear how much the administrator charges. Then, the eight plaintiffs in the case will be paid $120,000.<\/p>\n<p>Once all \u200bfees \u200dand other \u2063amounts are deducted, the remaining funds will not be distributed \u2064to all claimants\u2063 equally.\u200d Instead, the claim amount\u2063 will depend on the number \u2063of months a claimant had\u200c an active Facebook account between May 2007 and December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Meta, the parent company\u200d of social media site \u2064Facebook, has denied the allegations in the suit but still agreed on a settlement as it decided this course of action was \u2063in the best interest\u2062 of th<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>the plaintiffs, stated that approximately 17 million claimants in Facebook&#8217;s $725 million data privacy settlement have been preliminarily validated.
