There has been no national reckoning on what went \u200cwrong \u200cin our pandemic response and who should be held accountable, and there are new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/claytravis\/status\/1699121666981298286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signs<\/a> those same ineffective and sometimes cruel Covid measures \u200care coming back to dictate Americans\u2019\u2062 lives this fall.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1220855440\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f5db822ef9031a9358d188c6ed32249e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f5db822ef9031a9358d188c6ed32249e\"><\/div>\n<p>White House spokeswoman Karine\u200b Jean-Pierre\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1699112083965579649\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> this week that President Joe Biden would start wearing a mask again after his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-dhs-still-knowingly-releasing-covid-positive-illegals-into-u-s\/\" title=\"Biden DHS Still Knowingly Releasing COVID-Positive Illegals Into U.S.\">wife tested positive<\/a> for Covid. \u2064The \u2062president \u2064and the first\u200b lady had received Covid vaccines and boosters\u2062 before and were infected anyway. But the facts haven\u2019t stopped President \u2062Biden from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/biden-administration-urge-americans-get-new-covid-19-boosters-2023-08-20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encouraging<\/a> all\u2064 Americans to get Covid booster shots this fall.\u200d Meanwhile, Rosemary\u2062 Hills Elementary School in Maryland <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/claytravis\/status\/1699121666981298286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">handed \u2063out KN95 masks<\/a> \u200dto third graders because more than three students were infected with Covid. At <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrJBhattacharya\/status\/1698429539754676408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the University \u2063of \u2064Michigan<\/a>, students who test Covid-positive still have to leave\u200b their dorm (even \u200bif in a single room) and isolate themselves\u200b in a hotel for\u2063 five days.<\/p>\n<p>This renewed Covid hysteria is unwarranted because, \u200bthree years after the coronavirus outbreak spread from China \u200cto the rest of the \u200dworld, we have learned\u200c that many government measures \u2064have failed \u2064to prevent Covid\u2019s spread while causing \u2064undue harm. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tabletmag.com\/sections\/science\/articles\/vaccines-never-prevented-transmission-covid-alex-gutentag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research<\/a> from as early as fall 2021 \u200dshowed that vaccines didn\u2019t prevent\u2063 the virus from transmitting, and \u2063natural immunity is at least\u200b as protective\u2063 as vaccines. Yet the \u2064federal\u2063 government, many state and local governments, and businesses imposed vaccine mandates \u200con\u2064 employees, and many people lost their jobs due to being unable or unwilling to meet the mandates. The media and \u2062tech\u2063 companies shut down debates \u2064and vilified anyone who raised\u2063 questions.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, research on the effectiveness of\u2062 masks, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/02\/14\/face-masks-made-little-to-no-difference-in-preventing-covid-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> published by the Cochrane Library,\u2064 which \u201canalyzed 18 randomized\u2064 controlled trials that aimed \u2064to measure the impact\u200d of surgical masks or N95 respirators on the transmission of respiratory viruses,\u201d found that wearing a mask\u200d \u201cprobably \u2062makes little or no difference\u201d in preventing transmission. Yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention \u200b(CDC) told\u2063 Americans that masks provided\u2064 more protection against Covid than vaccines. Based\u2064 on the CDC\u2019s misleading recommendations, about\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/health\/healthy-living\/info-2020\/states-mask-mandates-coronavirus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">39<\/a> states imposed mask mandates, and some\u200b included children as young as \u20642 years old. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20220210-masks-in-class-how-damaging-to-child-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research<\/a> showed \u2063masking \u201cimpacts children\u2019s ability to recognize faces and emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Covid measures, such as lockdowns, caused a spike in mental\u2064 health problems among Americans, \u2063especially youth. \u2062Prolonged school closures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/renewed-hysteria-shows-why-we-need-a-commission-for-covid-accountability\/\" title=\"Renewed panic highlights the necessity of a Covid accountability commission.\">remote learning\u200c caused widespread learning loss<\/a>. \u201cIf the recent learning loss can\u2019t be reversed, it would equate to a 1.6% drop in lifetime earnings for the\u2062 average K\u201312 student, or a nationwide total \u200bof some \u2064$900 billion,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-high-price-of-covid-learning-loss-naep-scores-pandemic-11668455273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Wall \u2063Street\u2062 Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b3d98c377c2fe47b43ed74a5dfac7be8 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b3d98c377c2fe47b43ed74a5dfac7be8\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Need for a Review of Mistakes<\/h2>\n<p>Historically, after a significant event that profoundly affected America, whether it \u200cwas the Kennedy assassination or the 9\/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. Congress established commissions to\u2064 investigate what happened, what went wrong,\u200d who was responsible, and how we could prevent mistakes from happening again\u2064 or be better prepared. Yet so far, there is \u2063no\u2064 Covid-19\u2064 commission in the U.S., which makes\u200b us an outlier among\u2063 our peers. Countries from Norway to Sweden to\u200b the United Kingdom have either started or even finished their public inquiries \u200dinto their governments\u2019 Covid responses.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard\u200d professor and epidemiologist Dr. Martin Kulldorff and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a\u200b physician \u2063and professor at Stanford Medical \u2062School, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/we-need-covid-commission-opinion-1782857\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">believe<\/a><em> <\/em>the U.S. should establish\u00a0a bipartisan Covid Response Commission so we can\u2063 learn \u200dwhat went wrong and be better prepared \u2062next time.\u00a0These two professors\u2062 established their credibility in the public\u200c health policy debate during the pandemic by co-authoring, along with\u00a0Oxford University professor Dr. Sunetra Gupta, <a href=\"https:\/\/gbdeclaration.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Great Barrington Declaration<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-white-house-pressured-fda-to-reauthorize-hydroxychloroquine-congressional-report\/\" title=\"Trump White House Pressured FDA to Reauthorize Hydroxychloroquine: Congressional Report\">public petition calling<\/a> for an\u2064 end to the lockdowns and returning life to its \u2062pre-pandemic norm\u2064 as early as fall 2020. Had both the Trump and\u2064 Biden administrations \u200blistened to their advice, the U.S. could \u2064have reduced or even avoided many adverse outcomes we see today, from the mental\u2062 health \u200ccrisis to learning loss\u200d among our children. <\/p>\n<p>For a Covid Response Commission to be credible, \u200bKulldorff and Bhattacharya recommend it tackle four \u200careas: public health\u2063 measures, including the closing of schools, businesses, sports, religious services, and cultural events; \u2062the treatment of Covid\u2064 patients; \u2062vaccines, including their development and approval; and the discourse \u200cand censorship\u200b of scientific debate, including tech\u2062 censorship.\u200b Kulldorff and Bhattacharya also worked with several other scientists \u2062to produce a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/we-need-covid-commission-opinion-1782857\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">document<\/a> with essential questions the commission should ask, including on vaccine mandates: \u201cWhy were mandates pursued without carveouts for those with immunity \u2064due to prior infection? Why were so many <a href=\"https:\/\/brownstone.org\/articles\/hospitals-should-hire-not-fire-nurses-with-natural-immunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">people fired<\/a>, destroying careers and reducing health care \u2064capacity?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were some congressional efforts to establish a Covid commission. In February 2021, U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez,\u2063 D-N.J., and Susan \u200cCollins, R-Maine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidernj.com\/menendez-collins-call-passage-911-style-covid-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced<\/a> bipartisan legislation \u200dto establish such a commission. But then Senate \u200bMajority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York never \u2062brought the bill to a floor vote\u2062 because the Biden\u200b administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/12\/us\/politics\/covid-commission-congress.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> resisted \u200dthe\u2064 idea. After\u2064 the Republicans\u2064 took the majority in the \u2062U.S. House, they <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/subcommittee\/select-subcommittee-on-the-coronavirus-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">established<\/a> a subcommittee on the\u2062 coronavirus\u200d pandemic, which included six House\u2062 Democrats. Still, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/84869\/decoding-the-select-subcommittee-on-weaponization-of-the-federal-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accused<\/a> the \u200ccommittee of being overly \u200cpartisan.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-25f17462c5737b963f443fbbd5bb6e34 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-25f17462c5737b963f443fbbd5bb6e34\"><\/div>\n<p>To\u2062 ensure an inquiry into the Covid response is objective and neutral, Kulldorff and Bhattacharya <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/a-covid-commission-americans-can-trust-11624823367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recommend<\/a> broadening\u2064 the\u2064 Covid Response Commission\u2019s membership to include not only \u200cexperts on public health but \u2064also \u2064patients \u2064and members \u200dof \u2062the public who were \u2062harmed \u200bby the government\u2019s policies. A Covid\u200b commission is a national reckoning Americans deserve. <\/p>\n<p>Among all the sound recommendations Kulldorff and Bhattacharya make,\u200b the only one I have to disagree with is their\u200d insistence that the commission avoid \u201cto blame or to prosecute.\u201d Without holding accountable the high-level government\u200d officials who advocated for the most harmful\u2063 Covid measures, \u200bAmericans will suffer under the \u200bsame\u2062 destructive policies next time. \u200bIn fact, the news about Rosemary Hills Elementary School\u2019s mask mandate for third-graders this week is a warning\u200c that \u201cnext time\u201d \u2064could be now for some.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apparatchiks Are Back<\/h2>\n<p>Speaking of accountability, no one has done more\u200d to erode\u2063 Americans\u2019 trust in public health and science than Anthony Fauci. Yet \u200din \u2062a recent \u2062CNN \u2064interview, Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KanekoaTheGreat\/status\/1698166986520633788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continued<\/a> to\u200c argue for masks\u2019 effectiveness despite scientific\u2064 studies consistently\u200d contradicting his assertion. Next week, Chicago\u2019s former mayor, Lori \u2062Lightfoot, will <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HarvardChanSPH\/status\/1696914701815312814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">present<\/a> her Covid policy to students at Harvard\u2019s T.H.\u200c Chan School of Public\u200b Health, \u2064even though her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2020\/nov\/13\/lori-lightfoot-denies-virus-hypocrisy-of-attending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">double-standard Covid responses<\/a> have drawn much\u2062 criticism and students\u200c in Chicago\u2019s K\u201312 public \u200cschools suffered one of the nation\u2019s longest lockdowns. <\/p>\n<p>Since the left dominates\u2063 much of the\u2063 corporate media and public institutions, only a\u200d broad-based commission can hold former government officials \u200dsuch as Fauci\u2063 and Lightfoot accountable and prevent them from\u200b continuing to mislead the public and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-unions-lost-nearly-quarter-of-a-million-members-after-court-struck-down-mandatory-membership\/\" title=\"Top Unions Lost Nearly Quarter of a Million Members After Court Struck Down Mandatory Membership\">exert undue influence<\/a>\u200b on public policies in the present\u2062 and future. <\/p>\n<p>Kulldorff and Bhattacharya \u2063stated,\u200d \u201cOur\u00a0collective response to the\u200b Covid-19\u200c pandemic constituted history\u2019s biggest public \u2063health mistake.\u201d Only through a national commission that would assign accountability can\u2063 we ensure America will\u2064 not repeat the\u2062 same mistake.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ebac5eb1533d65a3011cc6d6a60b8e36 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ebac5eb1533d65a3011cc6d6a60b8e36\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One unsettling image during the Covid-19 pandemic was a teacher persistently attempting to impose a mask on a sobbing toddler, disregarding the child&#8217;s evident distress.
