Jim \u2062Jordan of Interfering with Trump\u2062 Case<\/h2>\n<p>In\u200d a strongly worded, \u200cnine-page response letter, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accused Rep. Its obvious purpose is\u2063 to obstruct a Georgia criminal proceeding and\u2063 to advance\u200c outrageous\u2064 partisan misrepresentations,&#8221; she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Willis argued that a House investigation would\u2064 violate state sovereignty.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The demands in your letter\u2014and your \u2063efforts at\u200c intruding upon the \u200cState of Georgia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fulton-county-da-accuses-rep-jordan-of-interfering-with-obstructing-trump-case\/\" title=\"Fulton County DA accuses Rep. Jordan of obstructing Trump case.\">criminal \u200cauthority\u2014violate constitutional principles<\/a> of federalism,&#8221; \u2063she wrote, describing his actions as &#8220;flagrantly\u2064 at odds with the \u200cConstitution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She made the argument that the defendants were charged &#8220;under state\u2064 law with committing state crimes&#8221;\u2014an argument that&#8217;s\u200b now being challenged\u2063 with \u200dfive of the defendants, including President \u2064Trump, attempting to remove their \u2064cases to federal \u200ccourt.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The \u200ccongressman wasn&#8217;t available for\u200d a response by press time.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigation Letter<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Jordan began his Aug. 24 \u2062letter by\u2063 questioning \u2064whether Ms. \u200dWillis&#8217;s prosecution \u2063was politically motivated, pointing out that she opened a fundraising\u2062 website right \u2062before \u2062the indictment and that\u200d local officials have publicly made statements \u200dabout their dislike of President Trump, who&#8217;s campaigning to be the\u200d GOP nominee in the 2024\u200d presidential\u200d election.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He then raised a concern about\u2064 Ms.\u2064 Willis&#8217;s overstepping her jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:3627px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. \u200bJim Jordan (R-Ohio) listens to discussions \u2062during John\u2063 Durham\u2019s \u200dtestimony in\u200b Congress in Washington on June 21, 2023. (Madalina Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Congress has long been sensitive to the \u200bthreat\u2063 that such state\u200c prosecutions can pose to \u2062the \u2063operations of federal government,&#8221; \u2062Mr. Jordan wrote, pointing to the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, \u200dwhich puts federal law before state laws and courts.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dindictment \u200cnames several\u2063 federal officials, including President Trump, former Justice Department (DOJ) official Jeffrey Clark, and \u2063former Chief of Staff \u2063Mark\u2062 Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>It also \u200cnames \u200dseveral alternate electors, an\u2064 election official, several \u200bof the then-president&#8217;s\u200c lawyers, and potential witnesses who \u200dchallenged the 2020 election results in the case.<\/p>\n<p>The federal officers have filed notices of removal, arguing immunity to state prosecution under the Supremacy Clause. Alternate electors David Shafer and Shawn Still have also filed \u200bnotices\u2064 of removal, arguing that \u2063if \u2062not considered federal officers, \u2064they \u200bwould have been acting under the\u2062 direction of federal officers, which in legal precedent has allowed for the same\u2063 immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jordan justified\u2064 the\u200b investigation by writing \u200dthat the \u2064federal government &#8220;has substantial\u200d interest in the \u2064welfare of former\u2062 Presidents,&#8221; \u2063who, by \u200dlaw, are entitled\u200b to continued Secret Service \u200bprotection and other privileges outside of office.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;To \u200dthe extent that \u2063Presidents fear that they may \u2063be subject to politically\u2063 motivated prosecutions \u2064due to\u200d the policies they\u2062 advanced as President, this \u2062could impact the \u2064policies they choose to pursue while in office,&#8221; he wrote, alluding to the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/like-meadows-trump-can-try-nixing-georgia-case-through-federal-removal-appellate-lawyer-5472253\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">absolute immunity<\/a>&#8221; a U.S. President has, as\u200d per \u2063a 1982 Supreme Court\u200d ruling.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. \u2062Jordan also pointed out Ms. \u200cWillis&#8217;s office uses \u2062federal\u2063 funding and that there were questions as to whether she and special counsel Jack Smith, who&#8217;s \u200bprosecuting a similar case in federal court, have collaborated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>He said the investigation may \u200clead \u200cto\u2062 legislative reforms to the \u2064federal \u2062office removal statute, \u200cimmunities\u200c for federal\u200c officers, and possibly \u200cdefunding Ms. \u2064Willis&#8217;s office \u2062through reforms to &#8220;permissible use of federal funds&#8221; and\u2063 authorities of \u2064federal, \u200dlocal, and \u2062special\u200b counsel prosecutors.<\/p>\n<h2>DA Response<\/h2>\n<p>Ms. Willis refuted Mr. Jordan&#8217;s concerns and said he lacked &#8220;any legitimate \u200dlegislative purpose&#8221; \u200dfor his letter or investigation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>She said his probe\u200d into \u200cher criminal case was\u2064 outside of his &#8220;job description&#8221; and that he was investigating to promote his &#8220;partisan\u2064 political objectives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Willis also dismissed all arguments separating federal\u200c and state\u200d jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is time that you deal with\u200b some basic realities,&#8221; she wrote, arguing that the case has been properly conducted, using\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fulton-county-judge-orders-rudy-giuliani-lindsey-graham-to-testify-in-2020-election-probe\/\" title=\"Fulton County Judge Orders Rudy Giuliani, Lindsey Graham to Testify in 2020 Election Probe\">special purpose grand jury<\/a> \u2063first, and then a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-mayor-bowser-silent-on-late-term-aborted-fetuses-obtained-by-dc-police\/\" title=\"Dem Mayor Bowser Silent on Late-Term Aborted Fetuses Obtained by DC Police\">separate grand jury<\/a> that returned the 41-count \u2063indictment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fa<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a nine-page response, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accused Rep.
