Jordan specifically raised concerns about Bratt allegedly \u2063bringing up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/lawyer-witness-trump-docs-probe-alleges-prosecutorial-misconduct-rcna88472\">judgeship application<\/a> in an attempt to improperly pressure a lawyer for Trump\u2019s associate\u200b and co-defendant Walter \u200dNauta. In addition, the chairman noted that Bratt later filed \u2064a motion alleging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/05\/us\/politics\/trump-charges-lawyer-conflicts.html\">conflicts of interest<\/a> involving the same lawyer, Stanley \u2062Woodward.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200c Department\u2019s mission is to ensure impartial justice by upholding\u200b the rule of\u200b law, requiring all Department employees \u2014 including\u2063 Mr.\u200b Bratt \u2014 to\u2063 maintain the\u2063 highest standards of ethical conduct,\u201d Jordan wrote. \u201cMr. \u2064Bratt\u2019s\u200d attempt to bully Mr. Nauta in \u2062cooperating, first \u200bby \u200bextorting \u200chis attorney and then \u200bby alleging\u200d a conflict of interest that precludes his\u2062 attorney from the case, seriously calls \u200dinto\u2062 question your team and your ability to remain \u2062impartial and uphold the Department\u2019s mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Demands for Documents and Records<\/h3>\n<p>The chairman demanded\u2063 various\u2063 documents and records related to Woodward, his representation\u200d of Nauta and others, \u2062as\u200d well as his application \u2064to fill a\u2063 vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of \u2064Columbia. A deadline of 5 p.m. on September \u206221 \u2063was given.<\/p>\n<p>Peter\u2062 Carr, a spokesperson for the special counsel, told The Daily \u200dWire that Smith\u2019s team declined to comment \u200dwhen asked about \u200bthe letter.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Fitton, president\u2063 of \u200dthe \u200bconservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, reacted to the letter by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomFitton\/status\/1699896009109979310\">posting to X<\/a>, \u201cProsecutorial misconduct at the heart of\u2064 the Biden DOJ abuse of \u200cTrump.\u201d Mike Davis, founder \u200dof \u200bthe\u200d Article III Project and former chief\u200d counsel\u200b for nominations to then-Senate Judiciary\u2063 Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), cheered Jordan\u200b on, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mrddmia\/status\/1699893153158050012\">saying<\/a>, \u201cEnd\u2062 [President Joe] \u2062 Biden\u2019s lawfare and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hillary-clinton-wants-trump-americans-called-out-for-providing-aid-and-comfort-to-putin\/\" title=\"Hillary Clinton Wants Trump, Americans \u201cCalled Out\u201d for \u201cProviding Aid and Comfort to Putin\">blatant election interference<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>National security attorney Bradley Moss took\u2063 a different point of view. \u201cThere is \u2064a real and serious need for\u200c congressional committees to conduct oversight\u200b of DOJ,\u201d Moss <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BradMossEsq\/status\/1699888962343686409\">said<\/a>. \u201cThis is not that. It\u2019s a blatant political stunt designed only to protect the former president.\u200b The tactics allegedly employed are the type \u2018law and order\u2019 conservatives \u200cnormally love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan\u2019s new letter \u200cfollows\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jordan-demands-details-on-wh-counsels-meeting-with-jack-smith-aide-fbi-agent-ahead-of-trump-indictment\">demand last month<\/a> for the Biden administration to provide details \u200dabout Bratt meeting \u200bwith White House officials \u200cin the weeks leading up to Trump \u200cgetting indicted. The chairman set a deadline of September 12 for\u2062 that matter.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Nauta have\u2062 been charged on claims including that they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-personal-aide-plead-not-guilty-to-new-charges-in-us-documents-superseding-indictment\">schemed to hide<\/a> classified documents from federal authorities and conspired to \u200dobstruct justice. They have\u200b pleaded not guilty, as has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-times-maggie-haberman-attacks-president-trump-over-white-house-reporters-having-to-work-early-on-christmas-eve\/\" title=\"NY Times\u2019 Maggie Haberman Attacks President Trump Over White House Reporters Having to Work Early on Christmas Eve\">mar-a-lago<\/a>-property-manager-pleads-not-guilty-in-trump-documents-case&#8221;>Carlos De\u200b Oliveira<\/a>, a property manager at the former president\u2019s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida who\u200b was added as a co-defendant\u2064 in a superseding indictment.<\/p>\n<p>Woodward revealed in a court filing that his former client, Mar-a-Lago IT worker Yuscil Taveras, agreed to testify in the case in exchange for\u2064 not\u2064 being prosecuted, \u2064CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/06\/politics\/mar-a-lago-it-worker\/index.html?utm_source=twCNNp&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_term=link&#038;utm_content=2023-09-06T19%3A00%3A06\">reported<\/a> on Wednesday. The report also \u2062said Woodward claimed in the\u2062 filing that\u200c he \u201cplayed no role\u201d in the cooperation\u200c and asked the judge not to\u2064 allow Taveras to testify in any future trial.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2062 faces charges in three other\u200d matters, including a 2020 election case\u200c also brought by Smith. He \u200chas broadly\u200d denied any wrongdoing and says he is the \u200cvictim of a \u2063\u201cwitch hunt\u201d as he runs a 2024 campaign \u2062for another term \u2062in the White House.
