The\u2064 move serves as the state GOP\u2019s last effort to\u2062 stop \u2062the court\u2019s \u200bnew\u2062 4-to-3 liberal majority,\u2064 which is expected to toss out Republican-drawn congressional maps and overturn the state\u2019s \u200b1849 abortion\u200b ban. <\/p>\n<p>Republicans want \u200bJustice Protasiewicz\u200c to recuse herself from redistricting cases because during her campaign\u200d she said that the state\u2019s current maps are \u201cunfair\u201d and \u201crigged,\u201d and they further argue she\u2019s already prejudged\u2062 the\u2062 case. <\/p>\n<p>On\u200b Wednesday, Wisconsin Democrats launched a campaign against Protasiewicz\u2019s impeachment and said the move is a\u2062 threat to democracy. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cEvery legislator must look in the mirror and ask whether they are willing\u200d to erase the votes of over a million Wisconsinites, including their own constituents, and shred our own system\u200b of government for their own game,\u201d Assembly Minority \u200dLeader Representative Greta Neubaurer (D-Wis.) said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans also pointed out Protasiewicz received nearly $10 million from\u200c the Wisconsin Democrat Party. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats say they\u2019ll spend more on a counter-campaign\u2062 to keep her on the bench and GOP lawmakers maintain their \u2063impeachment threat is not unconstitutional. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cTo say that \u200dthis is somehow undemocratic when it\u2019s literally written into the state\u200c constitution that this is the mechanism for oversight if it \u200dis necessary,\u201d\u00a0 said \u2063Representative Shae\u200b Sortwell. \u201cI\u2019m not \u2063saying it\u2019s necessary today, \u200bI\u2019m not it\u2019s not necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Protasiewicz won\u2064 over her Republican challenger by 11 points back in April.
