Ed Markey (D-Mass.) objected, blocking the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the Senate floor, Mr. Markey claimed \u2063the bill would hamper \u2062pandemic response efforts and\u200d would &#8220;hamstring public\u200c health experts who guided \u2064our\u2064 nation out of the pandemic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It makes\u2062 no sense \u200bto put limits\u2063 on how communities \u200cand individuals \u200bcan protect themselves. This bill is a red herring. It is\u200d a false debate,&#8221; Mr. Markey continued, adding that it should be up to local\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-lost-all-credibility-on-social-distancing-after-biden-celebrations\/\" title=\"Dems Lost All Credibility On Social Distancing After Biden Celebrations\">public health officials<\/a>\u2062 to make decisions about measures like mask mandates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If,\u200c in the \u2062opinion of public health officials, \u2062strategies can be adopted using masks that reduce the likelihood that more \u2062will die, we should give them the freedom to \u2063make those decisions,&#8221; Mr. Markey added.<\/p>\n<p>His objection blocked expedited passage of Mr. \u2063Vance&#8217;s bill,\u200d which \u2062was an outcome his office warned about in a press\u2062 release on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny \u2062floor objection to Senator Vance\u2019s unanimous consent\u2063 request \u200dwould amount to a clear admission that Democrats\u200d intend to reimpose mask mandates in the near term,\u201d his \u200doffice said.<\/p>\n<p>Responding\u2063 to \u2062the blocking of his bill, Mr.\u200d Vance said in a statement obtained by\u200d The Epoch Times that the move reveals an appetite on the part of Democrats for a mask mandate comeback.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Democrats have sent a clear signal\u200b to the\u200d nation that\u200d they support the return of mask mandates,&#8221; Mr. Vance said.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Mr. Vance, a number of \u200bRepublican lawmakers and figures have voiced \u2062their displeasure with reports showing that some businesses are reimposing mask mandates.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, a \u2062handful of hospitals have started to reimpose mandates, though\u2063 some have required masks only for staff while exempting patients \u2062and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Responding \u200dto speculation that\u200b it could be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hhs-report-recommends-bringing-back-mask-mandates\/\" title=\"HHS Report Recommends Bringing Back Mask Mandates\">bringing back mask mandates<\/a> on public transportation or in federal offices,\u200c the Centers for\u200c Disease\u2062 Control and Prevention (CDC) told The \u200dEpoch Times recently that it has no immediate\u200b plans to update its guidance on mask-wearing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Anyone may choose to wear a \u2063mask in crowded \u2064or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-block-gop-bill-that-would-ban-federal-mask-mandates\/\" title=\"Democrats block GOP bill banning federal mask mandates.\">poorly ventilated\u200c indoor areas<\/a>,\u200b including \u200don public transportation and in transportation \u200bhubs at\u2062 any time,&#8221;\u200d a CDC spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/cdc-responds-to-mask-mandate-claims-5483404\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told \u200cThe Epoch Times<\/a> on Aug. 29.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>The agency also doesn&#8217;t\u200d have any mandates in effect, and \u200cthe &#8220;CDC\u2019s \u2064advice for individual and community actions around COVID-19 are tied to hospital admission levels,&#8221; the\u2063 spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>While the spokesperson didn&#8217;t specify what hospital admission levels might trigger \u200ba guidance update, hospitalizations\u2062 increased 15.7 percent\u200c for the week \u2063ending Aug. 26 from 15,050 to 17,418, according to the latest data from\u200c the CDC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Republicans Oppose Mandates<\/h2>\n<p>Sen.
