This \u200ccomes after Navarro refused to \u2062comply with a congressional\u200c subpoena.<\/p>\n<p>The jury reached their\u200c decision after \u200cjust a few hours of deliberation on September 7. Woodward cited\u2064 the presence of protesters outside the courthouse, with\u200b one\u200c allegedly &#8220;accosting&#8221; \u2064his client.<\/p>\n<p>However, the judge \u200cdid not rule\u200d on\u2064 the mistrial motion before adjourning the \u2062court.<\/p>\n<p>Following the verdict, both supporters and opponents of \u2062Navarro gathered outside the\u2062 courthouse, making their \u2064voices heard.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times reached out to Navarro&#8217;s\u2064 legal\u200d team\u2063 for comment, but they declined to provide a statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Navarro was indicted\u2064 for contempt of Congress in June 2022 after failing to comply with a subpoena from the Jan. 6 Select Committee, which was active during the previous Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives. He pleaded not\u200b guilty \u2062to the charges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>One count of contempt stemmed from Navarro&#8217;s failure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/comer-sets-hearing-to-blast-treasury-for-stonewalling-on-hunter-biden-suspicious-activity-reports\/\" title=\"Comer sets hearing to blast Treasury for stonewalling on Hunter Biden suspicious activity reports\">produce requested documents<\/a>, while the other count was related to \u200dhis failure \u200cto appear for a\u2063 deposition. If \u2063convicted, he could face up\u200c to a\u2063 year in prison \u200cand a fine of up to $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing is scheduled for January 12, 2024, at 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Navarro&#8217;s attorney, Woodward, stated \u200don September 6\u2063 that he is prepared to file an appeal if his client is convicted.<\/p>\n<p>The congressional committee was\u2062 investigating the security breach at the U.S. Capitol on January 6,\u200c 2021, which caused a delay in the certification of the 2020 presidential election. They wanted to \u2062question Navarro about his &#8220;Green Bay Swamp&#8221; plan, outlined in a book he wrote\u200d after leaving the Trump administration, which proposed delaying the certification \u200bof Joe Biden as the election winner.<\/p>\n<p>Following a series\u200c of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-rejects-executive-privilege-defense-in-peter-navarros-contempt-of-congress-case\/\" title=\"Judge denies executive privilege defense in Navarro's contempt case.\">party-line\u200b votes<\/a>\u200c in the Democrat-run House, the charges were \u200creferred to \u200bthe U.S. Department of Justice. Attorney General Merrick Garland\u2063 decided to\u2064 formally institute the charges, leading to the federal court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Critics have criticized the \u200bcongressional committee, claiming it \u200bis \u2062biased and politically motivated.
