After nearly four hours of deliberation, Navarro has been found guilty on\u200c two counts of criminal contempt of Congress. The \u2064charges stem from his refusal to produce documents and testify before the\u2062 House Jan. 6 committee.<\/p>\n<h3>Navarro&#8217;s Defiance of Congressional Pursuit<\/h3>\n<p>Prosecutors argued that Navarro&#8217;s actions were a defiance\u200d of the congressional panel&#8217;s pursuit of evidence regarding his knowledge\u200c and involvement in former President Donald Trump&#8217;s \u200cattempt to subvert\u2063 the\u2063 2020 election results. Each \u2062count of criminal\u200c contempt of Congress carries\u200b a \u200dmaximum\u200b sentence of one year in prison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So today&#8217;s &#8216;Judgment Day,'&#8221; Navarro told reporters before \u200centering the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where the jury decided his fate.<\/p>\n<h3>Navarro&#8217;s Claim of Executive Privilege<\/h3>\n<p>Throughout the trial, Navarro maintained that \u2064Trump instructed\u200c him\u2062 to ignore the\u200c committee&#8217;s subpoena and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-ex-wh-counsel-mcgahn-to-testify-next-week-about-mueller-report\/\" title=\"Trump's Ex-WH Counsel McGahn to Testify Next Week About Mueller Report\">assert executive privilege<\/a>. He believed he would be immune from cooperating with the now defunct committee.
