In\u200b 2022, the U.S. Supreme \u200bCourt\u2063 ruled that his dismissal \u2063was unjust, and ordered him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/praying-football-coach-officially-right-back-belongs-7-year-court-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reinstated<\/a>.\u2062 Last week, he made his\u2062 first appearance \u2062as an assistant coach for Bremerton High School.<\/p>\n<p>On\u200d Wednesday, he announced in a statement that he\u2063 had resigned.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe \u200ccited multiple \u200dreasons for his resignation \u2063including \u2062taking care of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breitbart-news-daily-podcast-ep-96-alex-is-back-lia-thomas-hoax-grows-supreme-court-confirmation-preview-dr-doom-returns-guest-laptop-from-hell-reporter-emma-jo-morris\/\" title=\"Breitbart News Daily Podcast Ep. 96: Alex Is Back! Kennedy delivered his \u200bresignation to the district earlier today,\u201d said the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachjoekennedy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Kennedy-Resigns-from-Bremerton-High-School-RELEASE.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release on his website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI believe I can best continue to \u2064advocate\u200d for constitutional \u2062freedom and religious liberty by working\u200c from outside the school system so that is what\u2063 I will do. I will continue\u2064 to work \u2064to help people understand and embrace the\u2062 historic ruling at the heart of \u200dour\u200b case. As \u200da result\u200d of our case, we all have\u2062 more freedom, not \u200dless. That should be celebrated\u2062 and not disrespected,\u201d\u2063 Kennedy said \u2064in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I have demonstrated, we must make a stand for what we believe in. In my\u200d case, I made a stand to take a \u200dknee.\u2063 I encourage all Americans to \u200bmake their own stand for freedom and our right\u200b to express \u200cour faith\u2062 as we see \u200bfit. I appreciate the\u2064 people of Bremerton, the coaches, staff and \u2064especially \u2063the students\u200b and wish them all well. Bremerton\u200d will always be home,\u201d he\u2063 said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/praying-bremerton-football-coach-joe-kennedy-quits-after-one-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seattle Times<\/a>, \u200bKennedy had already returned to his home in \u200dPensacola, Florida, where\u200d he and his wife had moved after his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/football-coach-fired-praying-set-triumphant-return-field-isnt-done-giving-god-glory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissal<\/a> from Bremerton and while his\u2064 case was making its \u2063way through the court \u2063system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m \u200bdone,\u201d he\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u200b knew it\u2062 wasn\u2019t going to be a picnic and it wasn\u2019t,\u201d \u200che said, adding \u200cthat his \u201crole and responsibilities\u201d during Friday\u2019s\u2063 game were \u201cnot what I signed up\u2063 for.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In his resignation letter obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/praying-bremerton-football-coach-joe-kennedy-quits-after-one-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Seattle Times<\/a>, Kennedy said, \u201cIt is apparent that \u200bthe reinstatement ordered by the Supreme Court will not be fully followed after a series of\u200c actions meant to diminish my role and single me out in \u2064what I can only believe \u2064is retaliation \u2062by the school district.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kennedy said there are issues related to his father-in-law\u2019s health that prompted his \u2063departure.<\/p>\n<p>The resignation came <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/praying-football-coach-given-nearly-2-million-settlement-reinstated-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one\u200b game<\/a> into the season, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/amp\/news\/local\/bremerton-praying-football-coach-joe-kennedy-high-school-resign-step-down-quit-washington-seattle-pray-prayer-god-first-amendment-supreme-court-lawsuit-attorney-scotus-legal-battle-book-movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KOMO-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After\u2062 the game, Kennedy\u2062 posted an\u200d image on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/coachjoekennedyofficial\/posts\/292226600199721?ref=embed_post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> of\u2064 himself kneeling in prayer at the 50-yard line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s another W! After an 8 year legal battle culminating in a \u200bwin\u2062 at the Supreme Court, I returned to Bremerton\u200b High School as an Assistant Coach last night and prayed at midfield, exercising my Constitutional Right. \u00a0Happy to say we fought the good fight and finished the race. (2 Timothy 4:7),\u201d he posted.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy later spoke\u2062 about his prayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said \u2018thank you\u2019 probably \u206330 times,\u201d \u200bKennedy said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitsapsun.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2023\/09\/06\/kennedy-departs-bremerton-football-program-after-one-game\/70776034007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kitsap Sun<\/a>. \u201cI had no\u200c other words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, he indicated his future was uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s\u200d what I\u2019m leaving up to God. We haven\u2019t even talked about it,\u201d he said as he stood with his wife, Denise.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cTonight was the milestone and where we\u2064 wanted to get to. We fought eight years. What we \u2063asked for from the Supreme\u2064 Court and \u200call the courts was just to be able to be a coach \u200dand be able to pray after a football game. Both \u200dof those were accomplished and \u2064I\u2019ve\u200c gotten what\u200b I asked for.
