The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States reviews transactions\u200c involving overseas entities, and its decision to\u200d greenlight Gotion&#8217;s project has raised\u2064 eyebrows.<\/p>\n<p>McMorris\u200b Rodgers is conducting a broader investigation\u200d into President Joe Biden&#8217;s \u200dclimate\u200d agenda and has reached out\u2063 to CFIUS for information on the \u2064Gotion \u2063matter. She stated, &#8220;Energy and Commerce Republicans are committed to preventing the Biden administration from handing China \u200dthe keys to our auto future. That&#8217;s why we&#8217;ve asked\u2063 CFIUS for a briefing \u2063on their role in Gotion&#8217;s approval and have recently begun probing Ford&#8217;s partnership with CCP-linked EV company CATL.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This development follows McMorris Rodgers\u2064 and other GOP members on the Energy and \u200bCommerce \u200dpanel demanding answers from Ford Motor Company\u2063 regarding its partnership with\u2064 the Chinese\u200b battery \u2063firm Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL).\u200b Ford&#8217;s plan \u2062to invest $3.5 \u2064billion in a lithium iron phosphate battery facility, in collaboration\u2064 with CATL, has raised concerns among Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Gotion&#8217;s project, like Ford&#8217;s, \u200dhas the support of \u2063Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer \u200b(D-MI). The California-based\u200d company plans to construct two 550,000-square-foot\u2063 production plants and other supporting facilities in northern Michigan. In April, Michigan&#8217;s state Senate Appropriations Committee \u200capproved $175 million\u2062 in taxpayer dollars for Gotion&#8217;s project, which received CFIUS\u200b approval in June after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-ask-for-details-from-american-scientists-who-studied-bat-coronaviruses-in-wuhan-before-the-pandemic\/\" title=\"Lawmakers Ask For Details From American Scientists Who Studied Bat Coronaviruses In Wuhan Before The Pandemic\">national security review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McMorris Rodgers emphasized \u200cthe potential negative impact of such partnerships, stating, &#8220;Partnerships like these play right into \u200cChina&#8217;s\u2062 hands \u200dto take American jobs and weaken our national security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gotion High-Tech, which wholly controls Gotion and\u2063 is headquartered in Hefei City, China, has a history of ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The company formed a CCP branch in 2010 and a CCP \u200ccommittee in 2014. It has also employed 923 CCP members, \u200cincluding CEO Li Zhen, who serves as the committee&#8217;s party secretary.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Articles of Association&#8221; of Gotion\u2062 High-Tech state that\u2064 the company must establish a Party organization and carry\u200b out Party activities in accordance with the Constitution of\u2062 the Communist\u200d Party of China. The chairman of the company is also the secretary of the Party \u200ccommittee.<\/p>\n<p>The location \u2064of Gotion&#8217;s \u2064project in Michigan \u200bis significant\u200d due \u2063to \u2064its proximity to Camp Grayling, the largest National Guard training \u200bfacility in the United States. Michigan&#8217;s National Guard trains a portion of the military\u2062 in Taiwan at\u200b this facility on an annual basis. This \u200draises further concerns about the potential implications of Gotion&#8217;s project.<\/p>\n<p>Erin Walsh, a former member of the National Security Council \u200cand now\u2063 a senior research \u2064fellow for international studies at the Heritage Foundation&#8217;s Asia Studies Center, highlighted the seriousness of \u200cthe CCP threat. She stated, &#8220;At this point in time, all federal and\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grassley-iowa-cant-afford-to-be-babysitting-unaccompanied-minors\/\" title=\"Grassley: Iowa can\u2019t afford to be \u2018babysitting\u2019 unaccompanied minors\">state government officials<\/a> have been apprised of the serious threat of the CCP to\u2062 the U.S. \u200dIn the case of\u2062 Gotion, state\u200b and federal \u200blegislators, as well as\u2062 the local \u2064community, have \u200bexpressed their opposition and concerns about their ownership\u200b structure \u200cand ties to the CCP.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Committee on Foreign Investment in the\u2064 United States and Gotion did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>States (CFIUS) approved the China-linked green energy firm&#8217;s electric vehicle battery plant project.
