(Courtesy of Colby Wiltse, executive director \u2062of County Citizens Defending Freedom, Nueces County)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the letter, Mr.\u2064 Gonzalez said he refused &#8220;to play this rigged Republican game, particularly considering the Republicans&#8217; hypocrisy,\u2062 as their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/durham-says-cia-determined-data-from-former-clinton-lawyer-was-user-created-not-technically-plausible\/\" title=\"Durham Says CIA Determined Data From Former Clinton Lawyer Was \u2018User-Created,\u2019 Not \u2018Technically Plausible\u2019\">presumptive presidential nominee<\/a> is under\u200c indictment in\u2062 four jurisdictions across this beautiful country and no less revered.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gonzales, who \u2063pleaded\u200b guilty to a DWI at 19, painted \u2064himself in the letter as a man of \u200cthe people who had overcome a\u200c privileged system skewed to reward the rich.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They want to use me as a sacrificial lamb to send a \u2063foreboding message to other duly elected DAs in Texas who exercise\u2064 their discretion,\u200c intending\u2062 to \u2063chill their constitutional and statutory authority to \u200bdispense their job duties as they see fit,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. \u2064Gonzalez,\u2064 a poster boy for <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.policedefense.org\/leldf-justice-for-sale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fair and Just Prosecution<\/a> funded by Democrat mega-donor Soros, was accused of mishandling several high-profile \u2063cases as a\u2062 Texas DA.<\/p>\n<h2>Delayed justice<\/h2>\n<p>One involved the 2016 murder of Breanna\u200b Wood,\u200d 21, whose body was discovered wrapped in plastic inside a box at an abandoned oil field trailer \u200bnear Robstown, Texas, \u2062according to\u200b local news reports.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>Law enforcement charged\u2062 Wood&#8217;s ex-boyfriend, Joseph Tejeda, with \u2063her murder. The victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to the back\u2062 of her head \u200band broken\u200c arms, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>But\u200c more than five years after the murder, \u200cMr. \u200cTejeda and two other defendants \u200chad not been tried in the\u2064 case that \u2064had initially involved the arrest\u200d of seven people.<\/p>\n<p>The victim&#8217;s mother, Fallon Wood,\u200c became\u2063 frustrated and spoke\u200d about the delays exacerbated \u200cby the pandemic as the cases stalled.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>In October 2021, Ms. Wood alleged Mr. \u2063Gonzalez blocked her personal\u200c email\u2062 address, according to <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caller.com\/story\/news\/2022\/01\/13\/enough-enough-breanna-wood-cases-get-new-judge-prosecutor\/9168945002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local news accounts.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>As \u2063a result, Ms. Wood filed a grievance\u200c with\u200c the Texas Attorney General&#8217;s Office and the\u200b Texas State\u200b Bar.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Texas\u200c Attorney General&#8217;s Office eventually took over\u2064 the case. Mr. Tejeda pleaded guilty on Aug. \u200d11 to murder charges and received \u200ba 25-year sentence.<\/p>\n<h2>Lost evidence<\/h2>\n<p>The case against\u2062 a Corpus Christi\u2064 obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Juan Villarreal, accused of sexually assaulting \u2063more \u2063than a dozen\u2062 women, was dismissed in \u200dFebruary after the Nueces County district attorney&#8217;s office \u2062allegedly lost \u200bevidence.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>The lawsuit to remove Mr. Gonzalez contends he failed\u200c to\u200b establish proper \u2062procedures for\u200d handling evidence\u2062 in the case\u200d with 14 \u200dalleged victims of sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p>Some \u2062865 felony-level cases were dismissed between 2021-2022\u2064 under Mr. Gonzales&#8217;s watch, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, sexual assault, \u2063family violence, and aggravated robbery, according to \u200cthe \u2062lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 2,000 misdemeanors, including family violence, assault, and\u2062 DUIs, were dismissed during \u2062the same period, the lawsuit stated.<\/p>\n<p>It will be up to Mr.\u2063 Abbott&#8217;s office to appoint a new district attorney.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 resignation \u2064marks \u2063a victory \u200bfor conservatives who have become increasingly alarmed by Soros-aligned DAs that critics\u200b say ignore \u200dvictims while coddling criminals\u2062 in the name of social\u200d justice.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives have \u200blaunched\u2064 recall\u200b campaigns, such \u2064as the\u2063 one that successfully \u200cremoved San Franciso DA Chesa Boudin, or taken\u2063 legal \u2062action against several.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Farida Baig, whose father Shahid Ali Baig \u2062was murdered in 1980, speaks at \u2064a press conference\u200c by supporters of an\u200c effort to\u2064 recall Los Angeles District Attorney Gascon \u2062in Los Angeles on Dec. 6, 2021.
