Becky Edwards who received 35 percent of the vote, and\u2063 businessman Bruce Hough who garnered 26 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The primary was held to determine\u200b the GOP candidate who will succeed Rep. Chris Stewart, who is resigning later this month to care for\u2063 his\u200b ailing wife.<\/p>\n<h3>Contrasting Views on Trump<\/h3>\n<p>While all three candidates campaigned on traditional Republican values of small\u2064 government \u2062and pro-business agendas, Edwards\u200b stood out as a vocal critic of Trump. On the other hand, Maloy and Hough strongly condemned \u200cthe recent\u200c indictments against the former president, viewing them as politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>However, Edwards&#8217; support for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential\u2064 race\u2064 proved to be a significant setback for her campaign.<\/p>\n<h3>Challenges for\u2064 Sen. Romney, who \u200chas \u200dfaced criticism for working with Democrats and\u2064 voting to convict Trump in both impeachment trials, \u2062is up for\u200c re-election in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Several Utah Republicans, including state House Speaker Brad Wilson and Riverton Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mitt-romney-notice-young-conservative-mayor-gunning-senate-seat-issues-big-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trent Staggs<\/a>, have announced their intention to challenge Romney in the upcoming GOP primary \u2064race or are considering\u2062 doing so.<\/p>\n<h3>Romney&#8217;s Future Plans<\/h3>\n<p>Romney has not yet announced whether he plans to run for re-election.
