Collins: Bipartisan Work Possible on Infrastructure, Jan. 6 Commission\">inflation-adjusted dollars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u2062the Big Three automakers\u200d have pushed back\u200b against some of\u200d the proposals during negotiations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ford&#8217;s 2023 offer is an \u2062increase from 2019. Other offers include \u200ba 9 percent general wage\u2063 increase \u200cover\u200b the span of the\u2064 contract, a \u2064$20 starting wage for\u200c temporary employees, \u200ca $12,000 \u200ccost-of-living adjustment (COLA), health care for permanent UAW-represented hourly employees, \u2064and \u200ctwo \u200dfamily \u2063days off per contract.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will not make a deal that \u200cendangers \u200bour ability\u2063 to \u2063invest, grow and\u200d share profits with our employees. That would mortgage our future and\u200d would be \u200bharmful to everyone with a stake in \u200cFord, including our valued UAW \u2062workers,&#8221; Ford CEO and President Jim Farley \u200dsaid in a statement shared with \u2063The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bottom line, we believe there is a \u200dpath to succeed \u2064together in what is the \u200dmost\u200c competitive and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fears-of-an-auto-workers-strike-at-ford-gm-and-stellantis-gain-steam\/\" title=\"Auto workers strike fears grow at Ford, GM, and Stellantis.\">fast-changing era<\/a> in the history of the American auto industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Fain dismissed the proposal, saying that it &#8220;insults our\u200d very \u200cworth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2062General Motors&#8217;\u2064 head of manufacturing, Gerald Johnson, argued that UAW&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/concerns-about-auto-workers-strike-at-ford-gm-and-stellantis-gain-steam\/\" title=\"Growing worries over the ongoing auto workers strike at Ford, GM, and Stellantis.\">demands maintain \u201csignificant costs \u2064attached<\/a> that would threaten our ability to maintain\u2062 our\u2062 manufacturing\u200b momentum.&#8221; Mr. Johnson and GM President\u200b Mark Reuss assured all parties that they want to reach a &#8220;fair&#8221; deal without \u200ca strike.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2062Estimates show that even a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/another-auto-worker-strike-could-cost-billions-and-impact-an-already-shrinking-car-inventory-5486640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10-day strike<\/a> could cost \u200bthe three auto\u200d companies about $1 billion and result in a total economic loss of more \u200dthan $5 \u2062billion. In \u20622019, when UAW members initiated a 40-day \u2064strike, GM\u2064 lost close to $4 \u200cbillion.<br \/>\n \u2063<\/p>\n<h2>Reaction in Washington<\/h2>\n<p>    Speaking during a Labor Day appearance in \u200dPhiladelphia, President\u2062 Joe Biden told reporters \u2063that he \u2062doesn&#8217;t believe there \u2063will be\u2064 a strike.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;No, I\u2019m not worried \u200babout a strike until\u200c it happens,&#8221; President Biden stated. &#8220;I don\u2019t think it\u2019s\u2064 going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2064 Mr. Fain rejected President \u200bBiden&#8217;s assertion, telling reporters during the Labor Day parade that &#8220;he must know something we don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe the companies plan on walking\u200b in and giving us our demands on the night before. I don&#8217;t know, but he&#8217;s on the\u2062 inside on \u2062something I\u2064 don&#8217;t know about,&#8221; Mr.\u2062 Fain said.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden has repeatedly claimed that he&#8217;s the most pro-labor\u2062 and pro-union president, when compared to any of\u200c his predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>While other labor unions have supported \u2064President\u200c Biden&#8217;s reelection campaign, the UAW is still sitting on the sidelines \u200ddue to \u2064the current administration&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/auto-union-holds-off-on-endorsing-biden-due-to-electric-vehicle-policies\/\" title=\"Auto Union delays endorsing Biden over EV policies.\">electric vehicle policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) \u200dtold CNN that &#8220;we need \u200dto stand with UAW.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;American taxpayer dollars are \u2062helping\u200c build new auto factories,&#8221; he said. &#8220;CEOs are raising their own wages up to 40\u200b percent.
