This proposed legislation, Senate Bill 702, would require an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-to-leapfrog-u-s-as-worlds-biggest-economy-by-2028-think-tank\/\" title=\"China to leapfrog U.S. as world\u2019s biggest economy by 2028 \u2013 think tank\">annual report<\/a> on\u2063 the demographics of individuals appointed\u2064 by the \u200bgovernor to serve \u2062on over 400 boards and commissions in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The annual \u2064diversity audits would include information such \u2062as \u2062age, ethnicity, gender,\u2062 gender identity, disability\u2064 status, race, region, party affiliation, \u200cveteran status, and sexual orientation of\u200b the appointees. The bill has been steadily advancing and recently\u2062 passed out\u200d of committee.<\/p>\n<p>State\u2062 Senator Monique Lim\u00f3n introduced the bill and held a press conference\u200b with the\u2064 California Senate Democrats to advocate for its passage. During the press \u2064conference, Lim\u00f3n\u200c emphasized the goal of achieving equity\u200b in appointments and creating a California that reflects its \u2063diverse population.<\/p>\n<p>Lim\u00f3n expressed \u2062hope that the audits would lead\u2064 to greater diversity in gubernatorial appointments. Governor\u200c Gavin Newsom vetoed\u2063 a previous version of the bill during the last\u200b legislative session in 2021.
