This ban includes both mask \u200cand vaccine mandates.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2064 council meeting lasted until 2:48 a.m., and \u2063while the reason for the \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democracy-in-peril-authoritarian-conquest-looms-over-much-of-the-world-as-2021-ends\/\" title=\"Democracy in Peril: Authoritarian Conquest Looms over Much of the World as 2021 Ends\">extended meeting<\/a> was not\u2064 specified by KTTV, it&#8217;s clear that the contentious subject and close vote played a role.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Declaration \u200dAgainst Mask Mandates<\/h3>\n<p>Mayor Pro Tem \u200bGracey Van \u2063Der Mark\u200c introduced\u200c a\u200b powerful declaration stating that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-spike-in-florida-coronavirus-cases-despite-no-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite No Mask Mandate\">mask mandates<\/a>\u2062 in 2020 and 2021 &#8220;unnecessarily limited the freedoms of the \u200bcitizens\u2064 of \u2064Huntington Beach \u2014 even those\u2062 who were \u2062not around\u200b anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 or at risk of any exposure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bravo to the four brave\u200b souls \u2064on the Huntington Beach City Council for taking\u200d a\u2063 stand.<\/p>\n<p>While Van\u2063 Der \u2063Mark&#8217;s declaration\u2064 is commendable, it&#8217;s important\u200d to note that mask mandates have no legitimacy regardless \u200cof an individual&#8217;s exposure to \u2062COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062fundamental issue with mandates, whether \u200cthey are for masks or vaccines, is that they lack the authority of the people.<\/p>\n<p>In a republic, government officials \u200conly possess the power granted to \u200dthem by the sovereign people.<\/p>\n<p>And this power is \u2062granted expressly through \u200cwritten \u2064constitutions. Governments cannot claim authority simply because they are governments.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, \u200cany action taken by the government must be authorized by \u2062the people through a written constitution.<\/p>\n<p>This principle \u2062is essential for self-government \u200dto thrive. It ensures that\u2064 the people remain sovereign and that government\u2064 officials cannot arbitrarily\u2062 decide \u2063otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>There are no exceptions\u200d to \u2063this principle, even in \u2063unusual\u2063 circumstances. Governments do\u2062 not gain additional powers just because a segment of\u2063 the population feels fearful.<\/p>\n<p>With this principle in mind, we don&#8217;t need to \u200bdebate the efficacy of masks or vaccines. Even if these measures\u2063 offer protection, mandates \u200dwould\u2063 still be illegitimate.<\/p>\n<p>The Huntington Beach City Council vote \u200bhighlights another \u200bcrucial aspect of\u2063 the mandate issue. In our constitutional system,\u200c no government is superior \u200bor inferior to another. Each government operates within its assigned\u2062 sphere of authority.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, a \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-city-takes-bold-stance-pro-freedom-stance-with-late-night-vote-to-ban-covid-mandates\/\" title=\"California City Bans COVID Mandates in Bold Pro-Freedom Move\">city council vote holds<\/a> the same\u200d weight\u200d as a state or federal mandate, unless the state or federal constitution\u200b explicitly grants such\u200c authority.<\/p>\n<p>While \u200bI \u2062cannot speak to the specifics of the California constitution, I can\u200d confidently \u2064say that the U.S. Constitution does not authorize mask and vaccine mandates.<\/p>\n<p>When government \u2062officials attempt\u2062 to mandate something, we must question their authority.
