In exchange for his cooperation, Taveras will not face criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/recent-obstruction-charges-trump-cooperation-mar-lago-worker\/story?id=102431568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a> \u200dhas reported that Taveras\u2062 has agreed to testify in the trials of\u2063 former \u200dPresident Donald Trump, his \u2064aide Walt Nauta, and Mar-a-Lago property manager \u200dCarlos De\u200c Oliveira. These individuals have\u2064 been charged with crimes related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents\u2064 by Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, Nauta, and De \u200dOliveira have all \u200dpleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cOne of the\u2064 key players has flipped against former president\u2062 trump and is cooperating with the special counsel jack Smith\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bjNRvWj97K\">pic.twitter.com\/bjNRvWj97K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Acyn (@Acyn) \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Acyn\/status\/1699497039757709648?\">September 6, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Cooperation Agreement and Testimony<\/h3>\n<p>Taveras, \u2062referred to as &#8220;Trump Employee \u20634&#8221; in \u200bthe\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/storage\/US-v-Trump-Nauta-De-Oliveira-23-80101.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indictment<\/a>, entered into \u200dan agreement\u2063 with federal prosecutors\u200c after receiving\u2063 a target letter from Smith in \u2062June.\u200b The \u2064letter warned\u200b Taveras that he was\u200b likely \u200dto be charged\u2063 with perjury for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-democrat-governor-gretchen-whitmer-caught-allegedly-making-false-statements-about-travels-report\/\" title=\"Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer Caught Allegedly Making False Statements About Travels: Report\">allegedly making false statements<\/a> to a grand jury \u2062in March.<\/p>\n<p>According to ABC \u2064News, Taveras changed attorneys after receiving the \u200btarget letter. He had previously been represented\u200b by Nauta&#8217;s attorney, \u2064Stanley Woodward.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/06\/politics\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-times-maggie-haberman-attacks-president-trump-over-white-house-reporters-having-to-work-early-on-christmas-eve\/\" title=\"NY Times\u2019 Maggie Haberman Attacks President Trump Over White House Reporters Having to Work Early on Christmas Eve\">mar-a-lago<\/a>-it-worker\/index.html&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221; rel=&#8221;noopener&#8221;>CNN<\/a> reported that prosecutors\u200b argued Woodward would face conflicts of interest if he had\u200b to cross-examine his former client.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement reached\u2063 with Taveras, Smith&#8217;s office agreed not \u2063to prosecute\u2062 him for perjury in exchange for his truthful testimony. \u2062This testimony would provide details about \u2063the conduct \u2062underlying the new\u2064 obstruction allegations \u200cin the \u200dsuperseding indictment filed against Trump, Nauta, \u200cand De Oliveira in July.<\/p>\n<p>ABC News added\u200c that in\u2064 his previous testimony,\u2063 Taveras\u2062 had \u200ddenied speaking to De Oliveira about a\u200d request from\u2064 Nauta to delete surveillance footage\u2062 at Trump&#8217;s Mar-a-Lago estate. This footage allegedly showed the movement of boxes containing classified materials\u200c after Trump \u2062had received a subpoena \u200cfrom the government.<\/p>\n<p>The superseding indictment alleged that \u200cDe Oliveira\u2062 pressured Taveras to delete the server containing the Mar-a-Lago surveillance \u2062footage, allegedly at the request\u2064 of &#8220;the boss,&#8221; referring \u200bto\u2063 Trump. Taveras responded\u200d that he did not believe\u2064 he had the right to do\u200b so without the approval of a security employee of the \u200cTrump Organization.<\/p>\n<p>It \u2064is important to note that prosecutors\u2063 have not charged Trump, Nauta, and De Oliveira with deleting the footage.<\/p>\n<h3>Trump&#8217;s \u200bDenial and Response<\/h3>\n<p>In \u2064July, the \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/30\/trump-angrily-denies-ordering-mar-a-lago-security-tapes-deleted-calls-prosecutor-deranged\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> reported \u200dthat Trump denied ordering the security\u200b footage to be \u200berased. He claimed that Smith&#8217;s office had all the tapes.<\/p>\n<p>In a post \u200don Truth Social, Trump wrote in all capital letters, &#8220;MAR-A-LAGO SECURITY TAPES WERE NOT DELETED. THEY WERE VOLUNTARILY HANDED OVER TO THE THUGS, HEADED UP BY DERANGED JACK SMITH. WE DID NOT EVEN GO\u200d TO COURT TO STOP THEM FROM\u2062 GETTING THESE TAPES.\u2062 I NEVER TOLD ANYBODY TO DELETE THEM.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s attorney, Alina \u2062Habba, stated \u2064on &#8220;Fox \u2063News \u2062Sunday&#8221; that no tapes were deleted\u2064 and that Trump cooperated by \u200bturning them over.
