The animosity in such cases amounts to a manifestation of the career politician\u2019s suppressed guilt.<\/p>\n<p>At a Labor Day rally \u2063in Philadelphia on \u200dMonday, career politician and current President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-fact-checked-saying-great-real-estate-developer-trump-didnt-build-damn-thing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> tried to depict himself as a \u200cmore accomplished builder\u200d than his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, who made\u200b a \u200cfortune in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ca-governor-breaks-his-own-covid-rules-to-eat-fancy-french-food\/\" title=\"Ca. Governor Breaks His Own COVID Rules To Eat Fancy French Food\">real estate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuess what? Guess what? The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-touts-union-support-on-labor-day\/\" title=\"Biden highlights union backing on Labor Day.\">great real estate builder<\/a>,\u200c the last guy here, he didn\u2019t build \u2063a damn thing,\u201d Biden told members of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 union.<\/p>\n<p>When career \u2062politicians talk about \u201cbuilding,\u201d of course they mean pork-addled infrastructure bills \u200dthat spend\u2063 other people\u2019s money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder my predecessor, \u2018Infrastructure Week\u2019 became a punchline,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-exploded-told-major-crisis-vacation-new-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden<\/a> continued. \u201cOn\u200b my \u200bwatch, infrastructure [means] a decade and it\u2019s a headline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is how career politicians think. Signing a bill branded as \u201cinfrastructure\u201d makes one a builder. In fact, readers no\u200c doubt detect echoes of \u2064former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tucker-teases-interview-man-claims-sex-obama-1999\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barack Obama\u2019s<\/a> \u200dnotorious \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2012\/07\/you-didnt-build-that-uncut-and-unedited\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you\u2064 didn\u2019t build \u200bthat<\/a>\u201d quip.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s obvious \u200bsilliness notwithstanding, this \u2064seems an appropriate time to\u2062 remind ourselves of\u2062 everything Trump <em>did <\/em>build.<\/p>\n<h3>Trump&#8217;s Legacy: Revitalizing New York City<\/h3>\n<p>Reviewing more than 40 \u2062years of New York City history, it would not be a stretch\u200b to conclude that Trump did \u2062more to revitalize\u200d the rotting Big Apple than anyone in recent \u200cmemory.<\/p>\n<p>In 1984, \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1984\/04\/08\/magazine\/the-expanding-empire-of-donald-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York\u200d Times Magazine<\/a> published\u200d a revealing feature article entitled, \u201cThe Expanding Empire of Donald\u2062 Trump.\u201d Today, it reads as \u200ba \u200ctime capsule filled with nostalgia-inducing\u200c tidbits from \u200da bygone era.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, however, it depicted then-37-year-old Trump as the tycoon destined to save New York City.<\/p>\n<p>The story\u2019s author, William \u200bE. Geist, followed \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/now-may-come-trump-copyright-violation-mug-shot-backfires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> \u2063through a busy \u200bworkday.<\/p>\n<p>At a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-wrong-not-only-did-trump-build-a-damn-thing-his-developments-saved-largest-city-in-america\/\" title=\"Biden is mistaken: Trump not only constructed, but also rescued America's biggest city.\">breakfast forum\u200d featuring powerful men<\/a>\u200d such\u200d as then-Mayor \u200bEd Koch and\u200d then-New York Yankees \u2063owner George Steinbrenner, \u2064the gathered luminaries treated\u200d Trump as\u2064 \u201cthe man of the \u2063hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A \u200bpost-breakfast appointment with prominent architects explained\u200d why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is mad and wonderful,\u201d architect Philip Johnson\u2062 said. \u201cOther \u2064developers\u2064 come in with sober faces, carrying their market-research studies,\u201d but the fearless Trump delivered 77-year-old Johnson\u200c his \u201cmost exciting project\u201d ever.<\/p>\n<p>By early 1984, the first tenants \u2064had \u2062moved into the $125\u200d million Trump Plaza luxury \u200capartment building. Meanwhile, condominium owners, offices and stores had\u200c settled into the $200 million Trump Tower complex, opened in 1983.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche Sprague, in charge of sales\u200d at Trump Plaza, described the magic \u200din\u2063 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/shareholder-vote-gives-trump-big-truth-social-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> \u200dname.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think you understand,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I walk\u200d down the street with Donald, people come up and just touch him, hoping that his good fortune will rub off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Geist called \u2064this \u201coutright \u200cTrump worship,\u201d rooted in both hope and results. Indeed, many New Yorkers regarded Trump\u2062 as \u201c\u2018a real-estate genius\u2019 who has helped lead the city out of\u2064 the darkness of the mid-1970\u2019s into\u200d a new era of glamour\u200c and excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Therein lay the source of the\u2064 emerging Trump legend. The now-billionaire real-estate developer did not simply make \u2062a \u2063fortune.\u200b He led New York City \u201cout \u200dof the darkness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For instance, in the mid-1970s Trump made\u200c his first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/manhattan-das-office-now-coming-melania-trump-hush-money-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan<\/a> \u2063real estate deal when he purchased \u2063the Commodore Hotel on East \u206242nd Street. At that time, Geist wrote, \u201ceven the \u200cChrysler Building across the street was in foreclosure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw all those people coming out of Grand Central Terminal, and I\u200b said to myself, \u2018How bad can this be?&#8217;\u201d Trump recalled.<\/p>\n<p>After substantial renovations, the building re-opened\u200d as the Grand Hyatt Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Contemporaries were amazed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump is the Michael\u2064 Jackson of real estate,\u201d Irving Fischer of HRH Construction said.<\/p>\n<p>More than 30 years later, another New\u2062 York\u200d newspaper took stock of Trump\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c February 2016, long before\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/longtime-dem-strategist-amazed-trump-movement-never-seen-anything-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> secured the Republican presidential nomination, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/02\/07\/how-donald-trump-helped-save-new-york-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York \u200dPost<\/a> published an article entitled, \u201cHow Donald Trump Helped \u200cSave New \u2063York City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Post, Trump\u2063 at\u200c one time rated as \u201cNew York\u2019s most important and bravest real-estate\u200c developer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an \u200bera when the \u201cmetropolis was \u200dreeling\u201d due to\u200b \u201cstreet crime, AIDS, corporate\u200d flight and physical decay,\u201d Trump \u201crode to the rescue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, Trump\u2019s \u201cprojects lifted all boats around them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Post then presented \u2064a \u2062list of eight different \u201cgame-changing Manhattan monuments and their legacies\u201d \u2014 all owing their existence to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The Grand Hyatt\u200d Hotel on East 42nd Street,\u200b for instance, \u201carrested \u200bthe street\u2019s\u2064 tailspin and set the stage for Grand Central Terminal\u2019s \u200drestoration in the \u200d1990s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise,\u200c Trump Tower embodied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fight-fire-fire-trump-calls-republican-das-ags-get-off-mat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump\u2019s<\/a> vision for a revitalized\u200d Fifth Avenue. And this \u200cvision was \u200d\u201cvindicated \u2063years later when the avenue recaptured its old glory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Trump Plaza on Third \u200cAvenue \u201cinspired four more\u2062 similarly configured towers on the avenue and lent some badly needed class to uptown \u200ceast of Lexington Avenue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s\u200b post-1984 projects also had\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kushner-nominated-for-nobel-peace-prize\/\" title=\"Kushner Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize\">wide-ranging impacts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1986, for instance, Trump rebuilt the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park. \u200dThis helped \u201crestore ruined sections of the crime-ridden \u200bpark\u201d and drew \u201cfamilies and kids to \u2062the heart of the park\u2019s \u2018postcard\u2019 southern end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, in the mid \u201990s, Trump International\u2063 Hotel and \u2062Tower became the \u201cfirst project to reclaim Columbus Circle from the vagrants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On balance, therefore, it appears that Trump built many \u201cdamn things\u201d in his day.<\/p>\n<p>Better yet, Trump\u2019s creations did more than earn him his fortune. They helped rescue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-biden-skip-9-11-anniversary-new-york-city-destination-planned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City<\/a>.
