Democrats agreed to slight reductions\u2062 in \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-passes-monster-spending-package-with-backing-from-at-least-18-republicans\/\" title=\"Senate Passes Monster Spending Package With Backing From At Least 18 Republicans\">nondefense discretionary spending<\/a> and modest increases in\u200c defense spending\u2064 in 2024, with discretionary spending\u200b growth \u200dcapped at 1 percent for 2025. In\u200c exchange, Republicans \u2064agreed to suspend the\u2063 debt ceiling through Jan. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Since\u200b then, the Senate\u2062 Appropriations Committee completed all \u206212 appropriations\u2063 bills, clearing \u200cthe way for \u2062the full Senate \u2064to consider\u200b them, which is expected to begin on Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Senator [Susan] Collins [(R-Maine)] and \u200dSenator [Patty] Murray \u200d [(D-Wash.)] have done a spectacular job in\u2063 at \u2063least getting \u2063the bills out of committee,&#8221; Mr. McConnell \u2064said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. \u200cJohn Thune\u2063 (R-S.D.) stressed the\u200d need\u2063 to make spending decisions through normal committee hearings, which allow for\u2063 greater participation in \u2063the process by lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I talk a\u200d lot around here about regular order. And the\u200c reason I do that is \u200bbecause I think &#8230; it \u200dis a \u2062more transparent process, is more accountable to\u2062 the people in \u2063this country,&#8221; Mr.\u2063 Thune said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The way it&#8217;s supposed to work is to do these in regular\u200d order, through a process that allows for open \u200cdebate on the\u200d floor, and that&#8217;s what our Congress \u2063is going to insist on\u2063 in\u200d the appropriations process \u200bthis year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Sen. They\u200b are\u2063 pushing to cut federal spending to\u2062 the 2022 \u2062level, which the House\u200d had originally agreed to do in passing the Limit, Save, Grow Act in April.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Bob Good (R-Va.), and \u200bByron Donalds (R-Fla.) are among a small \u2062group\u200d of House Republicans who have \u2064spoken openly about forcing \u2064a \u2064shutdown to drive \u2063further spending reductions.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides\u200d are intent on avoiding what Mr. Thune called the &#8220;big train\u200d wreck&#8221; that occurred last year, when\u2014unable to \u2064agree on spending levels until the very end\u2063 of the year\u2014the \u200dHouse passed a 400-page, $1.7-trillion omnibus spending bill just before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy has said he favors a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-passes-stop-gap-bill-funding-government-through-february\/\" title=\"House Passes Stop-Gap Bill Funding Government Through February\">short-term continuing resolution<\/a>\u2064 that would\u200c allow\u2064 the government to \u200dfunction at current spending\u2063 levels \u200cfor a \u200bset period of \u2064time\u2062 while lawmakers finalize \u2064the 2024 budget. Mr. Schumer has indicated a willingness \u2063to consider that.<\/p>\n<p>However, GOP hardliners in the House, though small in number, \u200bcould have\u2064 enough clout in the\u200d narrowly divided chamber to block\u2064 a continuing resolution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Extending a\u2063 CR of the disastrous Omni \u200bis a \u200cnon-starter,&#8221; Mr. Roy wrote on X on Sept.\u2063 4, referring to last year&#8217;s \u200bomnibus bill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We shouldn&#8217;t fear\u200b a government shutdown,&#8221;\u2063 Mr. Good said \u2063on \u200cJune 15, his office confirmed to\u200c The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If \u200cwe shut it down in order to \u200btry to bring fiscal stability and fiscal\u200b solvency, that \u2064will\u2063 save \u200dthe country from an economic\u200d and fiscal standpoint for our kids and grandkids,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not \u2064afraid\u200c of shutdowns. American life doesn&#8217;t \u200chalt because government\u2064 offices are closed,&#8221; said Mr.\u200c Donalds, according to Punchbowl News. &#8220;We have to\u2063 be serious about spending.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Sen.
