Ron DeSantis) that Iger could make \u2063his return, \u2063it was\u200b an \u2064abrupt \u2062and\u200d wholesale \u2062change.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Iger fired \u2063many of Chapek\u2019s \u2063innermost allies from the company. \u200dIger also tacitly acknowledged that he had come out of retirement because he considered\u2062 his selection \u2062of Chapek to\u2063 be his most colossal failure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But as much public-facing drama as there appeared \u2062to be, CNBC\u2019s \u2063report suggests that those\u200c issues run far deeper.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSome Disney executives have privately \u200dspeculated that Iger\u200b chose Chapek \u2064because he wouldn\u2019t rival him in either charisma or celebrity \u2014 or, more cynically, because he was unlikely to \u2062eclipse\u2064 Iger\u2019s glittering record at the company,\u201d Sherman wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps one of the bigger revelations to\u200d emerge\u2064 from this report is that it seemed\u200d as if \u200dIger never really planned on riding\u2062 off into the sunset during his pseudo-retirement.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201c[Iger] \u2062had pegged Chapek as someone who would accept his somewhat unusual succession plan, in which Chapek would\u2062 serve both as CEO and CEO-in-training while\u2062 Iger remained his boss and ran \u2018creative endeavors\u2019 for 22 months as executive chairman,\u201d \u2064the\u2062 report \u200dstated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sherman added: \u201cJust \u2063weeks after\u200d Iger announced \u2062his departure, Chapek began to wonder if Iger had regrets, according to people familiar with his\u2064 thinking.\u2062 Equally soon,\u2064 Iger\u2062 started to\u200c think he\u2019d made \u2063a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, \u2064based on this report, it appears Iger\u2019s\u2064 specter always loomed over\u2062 the\u2063 media\u2064 titan \u2014 regardless of Iger\u2019s \u200bactual intent to acquiesce power.<\/p>\n<p>But \u200cwhy? Why go through the hassle of admitting you made a\u200b mistake \u200cwith your successor?
