The graduation ceremony, held at\u200c the agency&#8217;s academy in Sacramento,\u2062 California, celebrated the 112-member graduating class, the \u200blargest of the year for the CHP. Additionally, \u200bthe cadets receive training on\u200b codes, policing, mental \u200cillness response, crisis intervention techniques, and \u200dcultural diversity education.<\/p>\n<p>The new officers,\u2063 who will report \u2063for duty on September 11th, are part of\u2064 the CHP&#8217;s recruiting effort to fill\u200c 1,000 vacant officer positions. I\u2019m grateful for their service \u200band their unmatched commitment to improving \u200dpublic safety\u2064 in every corner of\u200c our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the CHP is not the only agency facing \u200da staffing \u200bcrisis. A survey conducted\u200d by the Police Executive Research \u200bForum revealed \u200dthat police \u2064agencies are losing officers\u2064 faster than they can hire new ones. Despite hiring more sworn officers in 2022 compared to previous years, \u2062retirements and resignations have led to a\u2063 decline in overall staffing.
