Jean Carroll,\u200d per \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/06\/politics\/e-jean-carroll-trump-defamation-lawsuit\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u206379-year-old\u200c author has\u200d long alleged\u200c that \u200dTrump had raped her\u2064 in the \u200c1990s, and then subsequently claimed that he also \u2064defamed her \u200cby denying those allegations.<\/p>\n<p>In a May trial, a jury\u200d ruled\u200d that against the rape claim \u2014 \u200cbut\u200b did decide that Trump \u2063is\u200d guilty \u200cof sexually\u200c abusing and forcibly \u2062touching Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>At \u2063the\u2063 time, Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/donald-trump-delivers-fiery-reaction-e-jean-carroll-verdict-announces-next-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordered<\/a> to\u2063 pay Carroll\u2064 $5 million.<\/p>\n<p>After that initial ruling, Trump launched a blistering salvo against the \u200ddecision:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS,\u201d Trump posted \u2063to \u2063Truth Social. \u201cTHIS\u2063 VERDICT IS A DISGRACE \u2013 A CONTINUATION\u2062 OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL\u200b TIME!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Carroll,\u200c despite coming\u200c out ahead in\u2063 that first suit, swiftly turned around and implied she may bring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/e-jean-carroll-already-looking-another-pound-flesh-teases-third-trump-lawsuit-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a second defamation suit<\/a> against the former president, this time \u2063based on \u200ccomments he made during\u200d a CNN town hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis woman, I don\u2019t know\u200d her.\u2064 I \u200bnever met her. I have \u200bno idea who\u2063 she is,\u201d Trump\u200b said during a \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-town-hall-totally-backfires-two-words-trend-twitter-afterwards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rare appearance<\/a> on CNN.<\/p>\n<p>He added:\u200c \u201cThis is a fake story, made-up story,\u201d Trump\u200b said, \u2062adding, \u201cI have no idea who the hell \u2014 she\u2019s \u2064a wack job.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Judge Lewis Kaplan, a Clinton-appointed federal\u2063 judge, has now ruled in favor of Carroll in regards to her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/e-jean-carroll-goes-trump-seeks-new-damages-cnn-town-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second defamation lawsuit<\/a>.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe truth or falsity of Mr Trump\u2019s 2019\u2063 statements \u2063therefore depends \u2014 like the truth\u200c or\u2064 falsity of\u2062 his 2022 statement \u2014 \u200bon \u200bwhether Ms Carroll lied about \u2062Mr Trump sexually\u200d assaulting her,\u201d Kaplan \u200bruled, per CNN. \u201cThe jury\u2019s finding \u200cthat \u200cshe did not\u2063 therefore\u2063 is \u2063binding in this \u2062case and precludes Mr Trump \u200dfrom contesting the falsity\u2062 of \u200chis\u200b 2019 statements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trial for this second defamation lawsuit, which is slated for \u200dJan. 15, 2024,\u2062 will\u200c now\u200d be\u2063 only to decide how much in damages \u2063that the \u200cformer\u2064 president must \u200bpay. That\u200d date could be\u200b particularly bothersome for Trump as it coincides\u2064 with the Iowa Republican caucuses.<\/p>\n<p>Of fiscal note, Kaplan \u2063has also denied the Trump\u2063 legal \u2063team\u2019s request to put a cap on the damages he must pay in this suit.<\/p>\n<p>Kaplan \u200ddenied that, effectively\u2062 rendering the \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-deals-trump-another-loss-to-e-jean-carroll-hell-have-to-pay-up-again\/\" title=\"Trump suffers another legal defeat as judge orders him to pay E.
