Collins: Bipartisan Work Possible on Infrastructure, Jan. 6 Commission\">inflation-adjusted dollars<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But \u2062the Big Three automakers have pushed back against\u200d some of the proposals during negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Ford&#8217;s 2023 \u2063offer has\u2063 been an increase\u200c from 2019. Other offers include a 9 percent general wage increase over the span\u2062 of the contract, a $20 starting wage for temporary employees, a $12,000 cost of living adjustment (COLA), health care for permanent UAW-represent hourly employees, and two family \u200cdays \u2063off per contract.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will not make a deal that\u2064 endangers our ability\u200c to invest, grow and share profits with our employees. That would \u200dmortgage our future and would be harmful to everyone with a stake \u200din Ford,\u200b including \u2064our valued UAW workers,&#8221; said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO, in a statement shared with The Epoch Times. &#8220;Bottom line, we \u200bbelieve there is\u2062 a path to succeed together in what is the most competitive and fast-changing era in the history of the American auto\u2062 industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Fain \u2063dismissed the proposal, saying that it &#8220;insults our very worth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, General \u2063Motors&#8217; head of manufacturing, Gerald \u2064Johnson, argued that \u2063UAW&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fears-of-an-auto-workers-strike-at-ford-gm-and-stellantis-gain-steam\/\" title=\"Auto workers strike fears grow at Ford, GM, and Stellantis.\">demands maintain \u201csignificant \u200dcosts attached<\/a> that would threaten our ability to maintain \u200dour manufacturing momentum.&#8221; Mr. Johnson and GM \u200dPresident Mark Reuss assured all parties that they wanted to reach a &#8220;fair&#8221; deal without a \u200bstrike.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    Estimates show that even a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/another-auto-worker-strike-could-cost-billions-and-impact-an-already-shrinking-car-inventory-5486640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10-day strike<\/a> could cost the three \u200cauto\u200d companies about $1 billion and impact \u200bthe U.S. economy by\u200b $5 billion. In 2019, when UAW members\u2064 initiated\u200c a 40-day strike, GM lost close to \u200c$4 billion.<\/p>\n<h2>Reaction in Washington<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;No, I\u2019m not worried about a strike until it happens,&#8221; President Biden stated. &#8220;I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going\u2064 to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Mr. Fain rejected President\u2064 Biden&#8217;s assertion, telling the press during the Labor Day parade that &#8220;he must know something we don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe the companies plan on\u2064 walking in and giving us our demands on the night before. I don&#8217;t know, but he&#8217;s on the inside on something I don&#8217;t know about,&#8221; Mr. Fain said.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden has repeatedly claimed that he is the most pro-labor and pro-union president compared to any of his predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>While other\u200b labor unions \u200chave supported President Biden&#8217;s reelection\u2064 campaign, the UAW is still sitting\u2062 on the sidelines due to the current administration&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/auto-union-holds-off-on-endorsing-biden-due-to-electric-vehicle-policies\/\" title=\"Auto Union delays endorsing Biden over EV policies.\">electric vehicle policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ro\u200c Khanna (D-Calif.) told CNN that &#8220;we need to stand with UAW.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;American taxpayer dollars are helping build new auto factories,&#8221; he said. &#8220;CEOs are raising their \u200down wages up to 40\u200b percent.
