(Photo by Brooke LaValley-Pool\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/james-meyers\">James \u2064Meyers<\/a><br \/>1:09\u2062 PM \u2013 Wednesday, September 6, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>The Biden administration \u200bquietly reversed \u2063a \u2064Trump-era regulation by moving to\u200d ban the transport of liquefied \u200cnatural gas (LNG) by rail\u200b system. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>In a federal filing on Friday, ahead of Labor Day \u2063weekend, the Department \u200dof \u2063Transportation\u2019s Pipeline and \u2064Hazardous \u200dMaterials\u2063 Safety Administration (PHMSA), \u200cmoved to\u2062 suspend\u2064 a\u200b Trump-era rule allowing the\u2063 transport \u2063of LNG via train cars.<\/p>\n<p>However, the rule will remain in effect until a permanent rule regarding a new LNG \u200drail tank car transportation is proposed and put into place, which could \u2063take several\u200d months or until June 30<sup>th<\/sup>, 2025. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe are encouraged by the decision to \u200bsuspend the dangerous practice of \u200ctransporting highly flammable\u2063 LNG by rail through communities,\u201d said Patrick Grenter,\u2063 the director of eco group Sierra Club\u2019s Beyond Dirty\u200c Fuels Campaign.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe have seen the destruction \u200bthat an accident can cause to \u200dcommunities bordering the railway\u200c route, often communities \u200cmost impacted by pollution and we support any step that will keep it\u2062 from \u2062happening again,\u201d he added. \u201cWe urge PHMSA\u200d to make the only \u2064reasonable decision\u200b available to them: make the suspension permanent\u200b and ban LNG by rail once and for all.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This news \u200dcomes\u2063 after Democrat lawmakers \u200bhad\u200c wrote to\u2064 Transportation \u200dSecretary Pete Buttigieg earlier this year, pleading for a permanent ban on LNG transportation by rail system, citing safety risks\u2063 pointed out by a handful of environmental groups. <\/p>\n<p>The PHMSA claimed that the new rule \u2064would help the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-quietly-moves-to-ban-natural-gas-transport-via-rail-systems\/\" title=\"Biden administration silently seeks to prohibit rail transport of natural gas.\">federal government limit public health risks<\/a> and\u2064 environmental consequences. <\/p>\n<p>The agency\u200b also stated that\u2062 the new regulation will allow \u200cenough time to complete ongoing testing and evaluation for LNG rail\u2064 transportation, which can help \u2064create mitigation measures to limit risks during transportation. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis suspension will give time\u2064 for PHMSA, in conjunction\u200d with the National Academies\u2063 of\u2062 Sciences and Engineering\u2064 as well as its Canadian regular\u200b counterparts, to complete critical research on transporting cryogenic liquids \u200clike LNG (and hydrogen) by \u200brail more safely,\u201d said PHMSA Deputy Administrator Tristan Brown. \u2062\u201cThis research is expected \u2064to\u2064 conclude in the next year or so and will inform \u2064future federal\u200d safety regulations from\u2062 PHMSA and the FRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the ranking member\u2064 of the Senate Commerce Committee, said \u200bthat the\u2064 move by the Biden \u200badministration was the\u2064 latest example of its\u2064 war on energy. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cToday the\u2063 Biden administration has fired\u200b another salvo\u2064 in its \u2064war on American energy by\u200c essentially prohibiting the movement of LNG by rail,\u201d Cruz \u200dsaid. \u201cAmerica is a leader in reducing carbon emissions largely because of the United States \u200cdevelopment and use \u200dof natural gas. The energy renaissance we\u2062 are\u200b seeing in this country is producing enormous environmental benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis is yet\u2064 another example of\u2063 why\u200c the Biden administration \u200ccannot be trusted to implement\u200c pro-domestic energy policies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
