The partnership, \u2064established in February, has\u200d faced \u200bcriticism from lawmakers \u200dwho worry about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-pulls-65-pending-trump-executive-orders\/\" title=\"Biden Pulls 65 Pending Trump Executive Orders\">national security implications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;While Ford has labeled this project a &#8216;commitment to American manufacturing&#8217; and\u200b asserts it will create 2,500 new American \u200bjobs, we are concerned that Ford&#8217;s \u200bpartnership with a Chinese company could aid China&#8217;s efforts to expand its control over United States electric vehicle supply chains\u200d and jeopardize \u200cnational security by furthering dependence on \u2064China,&#8221;\u200b the letter said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter also referenced Virginia \u200bRepublican Governor Glenn Youngkin&#8217;s move to prevent\u200c a similar partnership between Ford\u200d and CATL in his state \u200dbefore the Michigan partnership was announced.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;While Ford is an\u2063 iconic American company, it became clear that this proposal would serve \u2062as a \u200cfront for the Chinese Communist party, which could compromise our economic\u2063 security and Virginians&#8217; \u200cpersonal privacy,&#8221; said Youngkin spokeswoman Macaulay Porter.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition, the Republicans highlighted concerns about CATL potentially halting work on \u200cthe project if tensions \u200bbetween the\u200c U.S. and\u2063 China escalate, leaving \u2063Ford in a \u2063difficult position to source batteries for its vehicles.
