The sentencing, \u2063handed down by U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, marks \u200dthe longest prison\u200c term among all Jan. 6 \u2064defendants.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Tarrio, 39, of Miami, received the longest prison term among all Jan. \u20636 \u200cdefendants, eclipsing the previous\u200d record of 18 years given to Oath Keepers \u2064founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/18-year-prison-term-a-predetermined-outcome-of-show-trial-oath-keepers-leader-says_5294896.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elmer Stewart Rhodes \u2063III<\/a> in May, and Mr. Tarrio\u2019s co-defendant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/proud-boys-leader-ethan-nordean-handed-record-18-year-prison-term-for-jan-6-attack-5485193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethan\u2064 Nordean,<\/a> on Sept. \u20631.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The prosecution\u200c of\u2063 Mr. Tarrio and his Proud Boys lieutenants \u200dwas\u2063 a highly publicized trial that lasted\u200c over four months. The trial took place in \u2063the\u2062 E. Trump. Other defendants, including Ethan Nordean and\u2064 Joseph \u200dBiggs,\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/proud-boys-leader-enrique-tarrio-handed-22-year-prison-term-for-jan-6-breach\/\" title=\"Enrique Tarrio, Proud Boys leader, sentenced to 22 years for Jan. 6 breach.\">received significant prison terms<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Federal prosecutors\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23937463\/enrique-tarrio-sentencing-memorandum-by-usdoj.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sought a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/proud-boys-leader-enrique-tarrio-handed-22-year-prison-term-in-jan-6-sedition-case\/\" title=\"Enrique Tarrio, Proud Boys leader, sentenced to 22 years in Jan. 6 sedition case.\">33-year prison \u200dterm<\/a><\/a> for Mr. Tarrio, \u2064describing \u2063him as\u200d a \u201cnaturally charismatic leader,\u200d a savvy propagandist, and\u2063 the celebrity chairman of\u200d the national Proud Boys organization.\u201d They argued that his actions exhibited\u2062 dangerous \u200band \u200cviolent leadership.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During \u2063the sentencing hearing, defense attorneys argued for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/entire-u-s-senate-invited-to-meet-virtually-with-zelensky-on-saturday\/\" title=\"Entire U.S. Senate Invited to Meet Virtually With Zelensky on Saturday\">15-year prison term<\/a>, \u2063emphasizing Mr.\u200b Tarrio&#8217;s remorse and desire\u200c to turn away from his\u200c past actions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Tarrio expressed remorse for\u200b his involvement in the Jan. 6 attack, \u2062acknowledging the disappointment he\u200b caused his \u200cfamily and \u200bthe lack of respect he \u2062showed for law \u2064enforcement.\u2063 He requested \u200cleniency from the judge, \u2063stating that the trial had humbled\u200b him and that he no longer wanted to be involved in rallies or politics.<\/p>\n<p>Judge \u200bKelly, referring to seditious conspiracy as a \u200c&#8221;serious offense,&#8221; characterized Mr. Tarrio as the &#8220;ultimate leader&#8221; of the conspiracy, scheming \u200bto take\u200c over government buildings on Jan. 6. He was acquitted \u2064of \u200cassaulting, resisting,\u2064 or\u2064 impeding certain\u200d officers, \u200cand the jury was unable to reach \u2064a verdict on two other counts.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to the Oath Keepers trial, Mr. Tarrio was accused of plotting to disrupt the peaceful transfer of \u200dpower from President Donald J. Trump to\u2063 Joseph Biden Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorney Sabino Jauregui rejected\u2064 the \u200bcharacterization of his\u2062 client as a terrorist, instead\u200c describing \u2062Mr. Tarrio as \u200da &#8220;misguided patriot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Assistant U.S. Attorney Conor Mulroe disagreed, labeling the events of\u2062 Jan. 6 \u200das a &#8220;calculated\u2063 act of terrorism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While Mr. Tarrio was\u2064 not physically \u2062present in Washington \u200con Jan. 6, prosecutors argued that \u2062he communicated\u2063 with the \u2063Proud Boys through social media, using inflammatory language and encouraging \u2064their\u2064 actions.
