The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pregnant-woman-killed-police-ohio-footage-95daff91130a64bb43848431ea4441af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">example<\/a> occurred on Aug. \u206324 near Columbus, Ohio, when Ta\u2019Kiya Young was fatally shot by a \u2062Blendon\u200d Township police officer in a Kroger parking lot. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Escalation and Tragedy<\/h2>\n<p>Just prior \u2062to the shooting, two \u200bofficers were already in the parking lot \u200dresponding to an unrelated call. A Kroger employee approached them and accused Young of stealing bottles of liquor, pointing to Young as she climbed into her\u200c Lexus sedan that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2023\/08\/25\/family-seeks-answers-for-fatal-police-shooting-of-pregnant-woman-kroger-blendon-township\/70683719007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegally parked<\/a> \u200c in a handicapped spot \u200cand missing a \u200blicense plate. The officers confronted Young while\u2063 she was sitting in \u2062her vehicle, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-baseball-player-charges-mound-with-bat-in-wild-on-field-brawl\/\" title=\"WATCH: Baseball Player Charges Mound With Bat In Wild On-Field Brawl\">things escalated quickly<\/a> after Young repeatedly refused to exit her car, and instead drove \u2062forward while a police officer was standing directly in front of \u2062her\u2064 vehicle \u2014\u2063 plowing into him and lifting both his feet off the\u2062 ground. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-235218587\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-49f40cc131f0091265b557216b1684df fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-49f40cc131f0091265b557216b1684df\"><\/div>\n<p>The officer fired a single shot \u200cthrough\u2064 the windshield. Young \u2062was pregnant, and her unborn baby did not survive. A detailed explanation and video of the incident is\u2062 available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HyRLGuj493o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It should go without saying that if a police officer is standing in \u2064front\u2064 of your vehicle with\u200d his firearm drawn, \u2062you should not plow into him \u2014 even if you are innocent.\u200b It\u2019s just a simple \u200btruism. Ta\u2019Kiya Young\u2019s decision in that \u2062moment unquestionably resulted in\u2062 her death. <\/p>\n<h3>The Role of Police Tactics<\/h3>\n<p>Critics of this advice will suggest \u2062the officer shouldn\u2019t have \u2062blocked her vehicle \u200cwith his body.\u2062 But as retired Sheriff \u200dRuss Martin explained for Forbes, the two officers were conducting what \u2063police commonly refer to as \u201ccontact and cover.\u201d Because officers are vulnerable when approaching someone sitting in a car, they are trained to \u200buse one officer\u2062 for \u201ccontact,\u201d or conversing with the driver, and a second officer for \u201ccover.\u201d\u2063 In this scenario, the officer in front of \u200bthe car was performing the \u201ccover\u201d function, apparently getting a better vantage point to keep an eye on what the suspect was doing inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, if the officer hadn\u2019t stood in front of Young\u2019s car, she would have fled the scene. At that point, the officers would have had two options: \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/21-year-old-man-charged-with-murder-of-texas-pastor\/\" title=\"21-year-old man charged with murder of Texas pastor\">high-speed chase<\/a> or just \u2062letting her go. The latter is\u200b the type of soft-on-crime approach\u200b to policing that encourages things like shoplifting. If\u2063 alleged criminals can\u200d avoid arrest simply by refusing to comply, there\u2064 is no point in calling the \u2063police in the first place. This \u200dis precisely what is happening in cities across the \u200bnation \u200dthat have all but decriminalized things such as petty theft, resulting in skyrocketing rates of criminality. Others might\u2063 claim the officers could have\u200d used a patrol car to block Young\u2019s\u200c vehicle, but that didn\u2019t appear to be an option\u2062 based on\u200b how this unfolded.\u00a0The whole\u200c ordeal lasted less than a minute.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d2fe09c0e6f44e634e5878682a065fd4 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d2fe09c0e6f44e634e5878682a065fd4\"><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Alternative Scenarios<\/h2>\n<p>A column by Amelia Robinson at The Columbus Dispatch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/opinion\/columns\/2023\/09\/02\/video-takiya-young-shooting-black-pregnant-woman-shot-by-police-in-ohio-kroger-blendon-township\/70743378007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested<\/a> Young could have been\u2062 tracked to her house, but law enforcement cannot let suspected criminals flee\u200c the scene of a crime for obvious reasons. Alternatively, Robinson wondered if Young\u2019s car could have been disabled, presumably suggesting that as Young sped away, the two officers \u2063should\u200b have emptied their pistol magazines trying to shoot out Young\u2019s \u2064tires. In other words, the lives of innocent bystanders should have been put at risk because Young \u200ccouldn\u2019t be bothered to follow basic instructions. Bullets can ricochet off pavement and \u200dmetal, and\u200c who knows if other shoppers\u200c would have \u2062been in the flight path of those bullets.\u200c <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But let\u2019s be honest, would Robinson \u2014 or \u2062the rest of media activists who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/04\/23\/corporate-media-and-other-race-baiters-have-incited-more-violence-than-trump-ever-did\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reflexively go \u200cafter law enforcement or misrepresent their\u2062 actions<\/a> any time officers use deadly force \u2014 have applauded the officers if a \u200dpregnant black\u2064 woman drove \u200bthrough a Kroger parking lot under a hail of gunfire \u200dfrom two\u2064 police officers? I really doubt it. Robinson and others like her would have a \u2064different set of \u200bcomplaints if the \u2064officers did anything except allow Young to drive off into the sunset. <\/p>\n<p>We can all agree this was a terrible situation, made even worse because Young was pregnant, but she was\u2062 a grossly negligent parent \u200dthat day. She endangered her baby by refusing \u2063to exit her vehicle.\u2064 If the \u2063officer\u200c had not \u2064been standing in front of her car,\u2064 she would have sped away\u2062 and possibly caused a high-speed chase, putting her baby in danger and anyone\u2062 else who happened to be in her path. There is no scenario\u200d in\u200d which Young can be alleviated of responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Walton, \u2063the \u2063attorney hired by Young\u2019s family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/sep\/01\/ohio-police-shooting-pregnant-black-woman-ta-kiya-young\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> Young was \u201cunarmed.\u201d Walton could be competing with Ben Crump for the country\u2019s most dishonest ambulance chaser who earns a living by stoking racial animosity.\u200c Walton must have been busy jogging behind \u2062an ambulance when a terrorist in France <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_Nice_truck_attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">murdered<\/a> 86 people by running \u200cthem over with a truck. Vehicles become weapons the moment they are weaponized. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4aaed216eb1b4d38bfb1e30c81d05c6 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4aaed216eb1b4d38bfb1e30c81d05c6\"><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Media Bias and \u200dSelective\u2063 Outrage<\/h2>\n<p>The media do not care about this woman or her baby,\u2063 nor do they care about preventing these tragedies in the \u2062future. If\u200c they did, they would offer the only \u2063advice that is guaranteed to reduce the number of these incidents,\u200d and it goes\u2062 something like this: The time to argue with\u2063 police is not in\u200c the street.\u200c If you believe you are wrongly accused of a \u200ccrime, you \u200bwill be provided an opportunity to\u2064 make your case without\u200c putting yourself and others in danger. This is not a \u201cconservative\u201d\u200b position \u2014 it\u2019s common sense. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Could someone dig\u2062 up a story where a\u2063 suspect <em>fully complied<\/em> and\u200d was still killed? Sure, but \u2063those incidents\u2063 are extraordinarily rare. No honest person would \u200bsuggest\u2062 they be used as the basis for advising citizens who are stopped by police. In\u2063 fact, even if an officer\u2019s response\u2064 to noncompliance is excessive, the suspect still deserves criticism for being noncompliant.<\/p>\n<p>Something else we learned from this\u200c shooting is that the media were distraught over the death of Young\u2019s unborn baby not because\u200b they think unborn babies have intrinsic value, but because the death of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/police-shooting-of-takiya-young-is-another-example-of-a-suspect-creating-danger-where-it-didnt-exist\/\" title=\"Police shooting of Ta'Kiya Young highlights unnecessary danger created by suspects.\">baby provided\u2062 political fodder<\/a>. Absent political benefit, the media couldn\u2019t care less about her unborn child. If \u2063Young had decided on a whim that\u2063 she no longer wanted her child and therefore \u200bhad the baby killed at\u2063 an abortion facility, the media would have enthusiastically applauded her decision to exercise her imaginary right to\u200b take her\u200b child\u2019s life. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats have largely ignored decades \u2063of staggering loss of \u2064black life \u200dattributable \u200dto black-on-black murder in our cities,\u2064 and they yawn \u200cas more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2015\/nov\/25\/cynthia-meyer\/cynthia-meyer-says-more-black-babies-are-aborted-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">black babies are aborted than born<\/a> in New York City. They ignore these things because\u200b the left assigns value to the lives\u200c of\u2063 black Americans based solely on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-democrat-congressman-uses-national-guard-in-apparent-political-stunt-against-gop-member\/\" title=\"WATCH: Democrat Congressman Uses National Guard In Apparent \u2018Political Stunt\u2019 Against GOP Member\">political expediency<\/a>, and their editorial decisions are crafted for the express purpose of dividing people by\u2064 race. <\/p>\n<p>This shooting will be no different. \u2062Rabid ideologues aren\u2019t capable of anything else. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f60b4f8c29e573aa13161041559f01e9 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f60b4f8c29e573aa13161041559f01e9\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Suspects often escalate high-profile police incidents through noncompliance or physical resistance, leading to preventable outcomes.
