But based on recent recommendations made by officials \u200cin one of the state\u2019s most\u2063 dangerous towns, that\u2019s not likely \u200bto happen anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>This summer, California headlines constantly told \u2064of egregious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/08\/us\/oakland-crime-increase-naacp-residents\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crime \u2064sprees<\/a> in Oakland, California. Ranked by NeighborhoodScout as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/blog\/top100dangerous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">40th most dangerous city in America<\/a> \u2063in 2023, \u2064Oakland is currently\u2063 experiencing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/ca\/oakland\/crime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violent\u200c crime \u200drate<\/a> of 12.57\u200b assaults per 1,000 inhabitants, with\u2062 a \u200dtotal of \u200c5,452 \u200bviolent assaults a year.\u2064 According to a report by the Oakland Police \u200bDepartment in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/crime-in-oakland-violent-crimes-prevention-violence-coalition\/13570098\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violent crime was up 15 percent<\/a> compared to last year. Residents are\u2062 scared, \u200band\u2063 they have good reason to be.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The \u2063city is a shell of its former self: Many commercial\u200c properties are abandoned, ATMs have been gutted, store windows are\u200b boarded up, and even the police department\u2019s precinct is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Hf36qNx_wm4&#038;list=PLfdFeZuxui0qVS5XU7kDDkHMIsHyoG5tr&#038;index=151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barricaded<\/a>, with no\u2064 clear entry point. Meanwhile, criminals and thugs assault and \u2062kill people \u2064for their belongings. Residents, alongside Oakland\u2019s \u2063NAACP branch, have <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/alameda-county-district-attorney-pamela-price-town-hall-crime-in-oakland-mayor-sheng-thao\/13706064\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanded<\/a> the city council provide protection. In response to\u2063 this plea, city police have recommended that people \u2062carry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/08\/us\/oakland-crime-increase-naacp-residents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">air horns<\/a> with them at all times, in order to deter would-be \u2064criminals and to alert neighbors.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To add insult to injury, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price joined a community forum\u200d where she effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/alameda-county-district-attorney-pamela-price-town-hall-crime-in-oakland-mayor-sheng-thao\/13706064\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">downplayed<\/a> residents\u2019 concerns by emphasizing the\u200d Oakland Police Department\u2019s recent arrest record: \u201cWe\u2019ve charged over 7,600 cases, including murder and serious\u2064 violent felonies.\u201d Unfortunately,\u200c these \u200barrests can\u2019t keep up with violent \u2064crime trends.<\/p>\n<p>Price\u200c also criticized residents\u2019 desire for police\u2062 enhancements in the vein of increased patrols, better security equipment, and \u200cheightened\u200c investigations: \u201cBecause they require longer sentences, they\u200b force us to invest in prisons. Enhancements have been at the heart\u2063 of incarceration. It is absolutely\u200c essential that we stop\u200b using them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least she understands the concept: \u2062If\u2062 we increase our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-governor-calls-in-national-guard-ahead-of-trial-over-george-floyds-death\/\" title=\"Minnesota Governor Calls In National Guard Ahead Of Trial Over George Floyd\u2019s Death\">law enforcement efforts<\/a>, there will\u200d be fewer criminals \u200dout in the open. Apparently, that will cost \u2062the county\u200d more than citizens\u2019\u2064 safety is worth. Unsurprisingly, there is currently a <a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2023\/08\/20\/recall-effort-of-alameda-county-district-attorney-pamela-price-kicks-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recall effort<\/a> to oust Price.<\/p>\n<h2>Statewide Trend<\/h2>\n<p>This normalized whitewashing of crime is rampant throughout the \u2064state.\u200d San Francisco residents are leaving\u2064 their cars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10321237\/San-Francisco-car-owners-leaving-trunks-open-avoid-having-windows-smashed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unlocked<\/a> in order to escape the damage caused by thieves. Some \u2063have even left\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odditycentral.com\/news\/people-are-leaving-their-car-trunks-open-when-parking-to-prevent-break-ins.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signs \u2063on their vehicles<\/a> such as \u201cPlease use the doors\u201d and \u201cPlease Do Not Break Glass!! Nothing Inside!!\u201d This tolerance \u2063of\u200c criminal \u200dbehavior comes as \u2063no surprise when California\u2062 district attorneys \u2063continue to \u200drefuse to prosecute crimes such\u2064 as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/2023\/08\/liberals-turning-los-angeles-county-district-attorney-george\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">robbery<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/los-angeles-democrat-da-failed-to-prosecute-illegal-alien-who-instead-went-free-and-stabbed-8-people-in-las-vegas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violent recidivism<\/a>, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/alameda-da-pamela-price-accused-of-going-easy-on-gang-members-who-killed-girl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In response to a recent flash \u2062mob\u2019s spree <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/50-cent-doubles-down-on-la-being-finished-after-flash-mob-nordstrom-robbery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stealing<\/a> $100,000 worth of product from\u200d a \u2062Nordstrom, Los Angeles Mayor\u2062 Karen Bass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/crime\/la-mayor-karen-bass-claims-crime-continues-because-there-s-profits-to-be-made\/ar-AA1fQeYA?cvid=f0b5fc0c2a8a4031b9a1ebf18eba9ad3&#038;ocid=winp2fptaskbar&#038;ei=32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a> the robbery,\u2062 saying, \u201cWell, you know what, things like\u200d this\u2063 happen when there\u2019s profit to be\u200b made.\u201d Things like \u200cthis do indeed happen, especially since California \u200bpassed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.ca.gov\/documents\/Prop47FAQs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Proposition\u2064 47<\/a>,\u200b which essentially permits all\u2063 theft under\u200b $950.<\/p>\n<p>When questioned if California\u2019s \u201ccrime reform\u201d contributed to the\u2062 crime spike, Bass responded, \u201cThe reforms that people object to have nothing, nothing to \u2064do with these crimes.\u201d That\u2019s rich considering\u200c theft has increased\u2064 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcbayarea.com\/investigations\/breaking-point-sf-suffers-highest-rate-of-car-break-ins-compared-to-atlanta-dc-dallas-la\/2731757\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">200 percent<\/a> after 2020.<\/p>\n<h2>Self-Defense \u200bRequired<\/h2>\n<p>If state police aren\u2019t invested in \u2062protecting citizens from car thieves, robbers, and mass shooters, citizens must \u2063be allowed to take protection into their own hands.\u2064 The United States has a long and well-documented <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2023\/06\/uber-driver-in-chicago-stops-mass-public-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">history<\/a> of responsible gun owners stopping would-be \u2062mass shooters \u2014\u200c not to mention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/firearms\/commentary\/guns-saved-these-americans-assault-and-robbery-july\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instances<\/a> where legal \u200bfirearm owners \u2063deter \u2062home invaders and\u2062 robbers without even firing a shot.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>While \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/washington-appeals-court-unanimously-strikes-down-local-gun-control-law\/\" title=\"Washington Appeals Court Unanimously Strikes Down Local Gun-Control\u00a0Law\">gun-control advocates<\/a> are quick to point to studies that try to show how lax gun-control laws lead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/fact-sheet-weak-gun-laws-are-driving-increases-in-violent-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">higher<\/a> \u200b instances of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-the-1994-assault-weapons-ban-didnt-work\/\" title=\"Why The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban Didn\u2019t Work\">gun-related violence<\/a>, their research \u2064variability and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id%3D4532796&#038;sa=D&#038;source=docs&#038;ust=1693425895174161&#038;usg=AOvVaw3dGwWIKMegb9bxrbeGLhNW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal\u200c bias<\/a> make it impossible to prove that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/californians-had-better-arm-themselves-if-they-dont-want-to-be-victims-of-crime\/\" title=\"Californians, protect yourselves from crime by arming up.\">higher gun ownership\u200c rates increase gun-related violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the U.S. is experiencing a record number of permit carry holders at 22 million\u2062 and <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4279137\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">counting<\/a>. Twenty-seven states also honor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usconcealedcarry.com\/resources\/terminology\/types-of-concealed-carry-licensurepermitting-policies\/unrestricted\/#:~:text=Each%20state%20determines%20the%20requirements,Alaska%20(PC%2D21)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permitless carry<\/a>. \u2064Despite the popular rise in firearm ownership, we aren\u2019t seeing \u200ca spike in gun\u200d violence in \u201cright-to-carry\u201d states.<\/p>\n<p>What we <strong>do<\/strong> see is a consistent increase\u200d in public mass shootings in states with burdensome gun legislation \u200clike California\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been shown that up \u200cto 16 percent of \u2062would-be mass shooters have been \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2018\/10\/23\/the_problem_with_the_fbis_active_shooter_data_138425.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stopped<\/a> by responsible, \u2063legal gun\u200b owners. In the 36 percent of \u2064shooting attacks (gang-related, robberies,\u200b theft, assault) that have occurred \u200cin places where firearms\u200b were permitted, 42.3 percent were <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3857331\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stopped<\/a> by \u2062legal carry owners.<\/p>\n<p>Between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2023\/05\/14\/southern-california-law-enforcement-agencies-still-in-grips-of-staffing-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">understaffed<\/a> police departments\u200c and \u2064the DAs\u200d who refuse to do \u2062their jobs,\u2063 Californians are \u200dleft unprotected from the state\u2019s rampant crime and violence. It\u2019s \u2062time for people \u200dto wake\u200c up and take some gun\u2064 safety courses.\u2062 As the state is now a\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usconcealedcarry.com\/resources\/ccw_reciprocity_map\/ca-gun-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cshall issue\u201d<\/a> jurisdiction, residents \u2062have nothing\u2062 to lose in applying for a\u2062 concealed carry permit and practicing \u2063at \u2063the range. California must \u2062also foster a culture of self-defense and honoring property rights by voting for pro-liberty and \u200cpro-Second\u2063 Amendment candidates wherever they can. From local school boards to city councils\u200c to sheriff\u2019s departments, citizens need to start voting for the change they desperately need.\u200c That\u2064 won\u2019t happen if the Prices, George Gascons, and Gavin Newsoms of the world \u200dkeep getting reelected.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, it would be pertinent \u2063to look into self-defense.
