\u200cMr. Comer said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investigators were never able to interview \u2062Hunter Biden during\u2062 the criminal\u2062 investigation because Secret Service headquarters \u200cand the Biden transition \u2064team were\u2063 tipped off about the planned interview,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Calling\u2064 it one of &#8220;many examples of misconduct and politicization&#8221; during the Justice \u2064Department&#8217;s criminal investigation of the president&#8217;s son, Mr. Comer demanded that Mr. Mayorkas provide all documents and communications regarding the alleged\u2062 tip-off and Congress&#8217; request for information about alleged DOJ misconduct.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The subpoenas also\u2063 compel depositions with DHS and Secret Service employees who were involved\u2063 in providing a \u200dresponse to congressional committees.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>The Tip-off<\/h2>\n<p>In July 2023, an FBI whistleblower told the House Oversight Committee that the 2020 transition team of then-President-Elect Joe Biden was notified in advance that the \u2062FBI was planning to interview the\u200b president&#8217;s \u2062son, Hunter Biden, on Dec. 8, 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The tip-off was previously revealed by former IRS investigator-turned-whistleblower Gary Shapley, who was responsible\u2064 for overseeing the Hunter Biden investigation on the IRS side.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI whistleblower, who\u2062 remains anonymous, said that he opened the investigation into Hunter \u200cBiden in 2019, and \u2063the agencies later joined\u200c their probes in\u2064 April 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cThe initial plan was to make approaches \u2062of multiple witnesses, to include subject Hunter Biden, \u200don December\u200b 8th,\u201d the whistleblower said, according\u00a0to an interview transcript released by the Oversight Committee\u200b on Aug. 14 (<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/FBI-SSA-Transcribed-Interview-Transcript.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>At the time, Hunter Biden was already \u200dunder Secret Service protection, so the agents decided that the Secret Service needed to be notified about the\u200c planned interview to avoid confusion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe initial \u200bplan was to have the <a title=\"\u2018Grand Scale\u2019: Tens Of Thousands Of Illegal Aliens Being Released Into U.S., Ex-ICE Official Says\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grand-scale-tens-of-thousands-of-illegal-aliens-being-released-into-u-s-ex-ice-official-says\/\">local field office<\/a> of the Secret Service \u200dbe notified the morning of [Dec. 8, 2020,] to diminish opportunities for anybody else to be notified,\u201d \u200cthe whistleblower said.<\/p>\n<p>FBI and IRS agents \u200bplanned to interview Hunter Biden on Dec. 8, 2020 but were \u200btold that morning to stand down, according\u2064 to the FBI whistleblower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was notified \u2063by my <a title=\"150 Missing Children Found In Tennessee As Part Of \u2018Operation Volunteer Strong\u2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/150-missing-children-found-in-tennessee-as-part-of-operation-volunteer-strong\/\">assistant special agent<\/a> \u2062in \u2063charge that we would \u2064not even be allowed to approach the house; that\u200b the\u2063 plan, as told to us, was that my information would \u2063be given to\u2063 the Secret Service, to\u200b whom I\u2064 don&#8217;t \u2063know exactly, and, you know, my name, my contact, you know,\u2063 my cell \u2064phone, for example, \u200cwith the \u200dnotification that we would like to talk to Hunter Biden; and that I was not to go near the house and\u2064 to stand \u2062by,\u201d the FBI whistleblower said, per the \u2063transcript.<\/p>\n<p>The whistleblower added that \u2062he \u2062never learned who decided on the tip-off and that, in \u200cthe end, the\u2064 agents didn&#8217;t manage to interview.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 0; (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>&#8216;Muzzling the Secret Service&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In June, Mr. Comer (along with\u200c the chairs of two other\u2063 Congressional committees) asked Ms. Cheatle, the\u2063 Secret Service director, to make those Secret Service \u200bemployees who \u200creceived the tip-off available for transcribed interviews.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mr. Comer said Tuesday that the Secret Service was \u200bblocked by DHS from <a title=\"Hunter Biden's Deposition: Key Questions to Ask\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-is-being-deposed-on-thursday-heres-what-he-should-be-asked-under-oath\/\">providing substantive responses<\/a> to the committees.<\/p>\n<p>In his\u2064 statement, Mr. Comer alleged that DHS\u200b was obstructing the committee&#8217;s investigation &#8220;by\u2063 muzzling the Secret Service&#8221; from providing a response to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>In letters\u200b to Mr. Mayorkas and Ms. Cheatle, which were sent alongside the\u200c subpoenas, Mr. Comer alleged that the\u2064 DHS Office\u2064 of\u200d Legislative Affairs had \u201cinstructed the Secret Service to withhold a response \u2064the Secret Service had prepared for the committees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Secret Service spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement that DHS would \u200dbe\u200d replying \u200don behalf \u2064of\u200d both agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The DHS spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement \u2062that it was\u00a0&#8220;working\u200d to respond to this inquiry appropriately, including\u200d identifying the relevant\u200d information and individuals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The claim that we obstructed or withheld a response to the inquiry is false,&#8221; the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>James Comer (R-Ky.), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has issued subpoenas to six Biden administration officials.
