As part of a\u2063 licensing agreement, China&#8217;s Contemporary Amperex \u200bTechnology Co. Ltd. \u2064(CATL), the world&#8217;s \u2063largest manufacturer of EV batteries, will provide the EV battery technology, \u200bequipment,\u200c and workers. Production is expected to begin in 2026, with the plant estimated to\u200d produce \u200denough batteries for \u200d400,000 EVs annually.<\/p>\n<p>Ford has confirmed that it expects the deal\u200d to qualify for both\u2062 consumer and advanced manufacturing credits \u200bunder the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Experts estimate that the manufacturing credit could reach $1 billion, and without the tax credit, Ford would not be able to \u200bafford the $3.5 billion investment.<\/p>\n<p>House Energy Committee Republicans are raising questions about Ford&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/listen-elon-musk-presses-robinhood-ceo-about-gamestop-fiasco-restricted-trading\/\" title=\"LISTEN: Elon Musk Presses Robinhood CEO About GameStop Fiasco, Restricted Trading\">decision-making process<\/a> and the potential\u200b exploitation of federal incentives under the IRA, which were \u200cdesigned\u200c to promote domestic EV supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>A Ford spokeswoman responded to the concerns, stating, &#8220;Ford alone is building and \u2064will own and run this battery plant in Michigan. We&#8217;re doing that instead \u200bof putting\u2062 a Ford battery factory in another country or exclusively buying \u2063batteries made in China, like \u2064our competitors do. Ford has no \u200c&#8217;partnership&#8217; with CATL; they won&#8217;t own any portion of the plant. We&#8217;re licensing their battery cell technology for \u2063use by Ford in the U.S. and will contract with them for specific services, nothing more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She further emphasized that the project \u200bwill\u200c create 2,500 new American jobs\u2062 and strengthen U.S. manufacturing,\u2063 benefiting \u2062customers, \u2063the country, and Ford&#8217;s business.<\/p>\n<p>The Ford-CATL deal \u2062raised security concerns even before its announcement, leading Virginia Republican\u2062 Gov. Glenn Youngkin to withdraw \u2062his\u2063 state from bidding to house the battery \u200bplant due\u200b to fears that it could become a front for China. Republican \u200blawmakers \u200dhave since called\u200c for reviews of the deal to assess national security risks.<\/p>\n<p>About two months ago, \u2062Rep. \u2062Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) and Rep.
