McGraw, commonly known as Dr.\u2062 Phil,\u2064 said during \u200da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/first-independent-report-on-uyghur-treatment-finds-china-in-breach-of-1948-u-n-genocide-convention\/\" title=\"First Independent Report On Uyghur Treatment Finds China In Breach of 1948 U.N. Genocide Convention\">recent discussion<\/a> with Sen.\u2063 Ted Cruz (R-TX) that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schiff-nadler-call-flynn-pardon-abuse-of-power\/\" title=\"Schiff, Nadler Call Flynn Pardon 'Abuse of Power'\">government officials<\/a> who decided to shut down schools during the COVID pandemic were \u201cthrowing gas on a fire\u201d in terms\u200d of exacerbating the existing problems facing America\u2019s youth.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The second half of McGraw\u2019s remarks during a special appearance on Cruz\u2019s \u201cVerdict\u201d podcast last \u200cweek were released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h3>Reading Crisis \u2062in America<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cRight now, almost a third of fifth and eighth graders \u2064can\u2019t read at the most fundamental level,\u201d McGraw said. \u201cThey can\u2019t read a sentence. \u200cAnd the question is,\u2063 how did \u200dthey get \u200bin the fifth grade? How did \u200bthey get into the \u2064eighth\u200d grade? 19%\u200b of\u200d high \u2063school graduates can\u2019t read. They cannot read.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/l-a-mayor-says-new-program-giving-50-savings-accounts-to-first-graders-is-about-racial-justice\/\" title=\"L.A. Mayor Says New Program Giving  Savings Accounts To First-Graders \u2018Is About Racial Justice\u2019\">graduate high school<\/a>, if you\u2063 can\u2019t read in \u200dthe first, second, and third grade?\u201d McGraw continued. \u2063\u201cFrom the fourth grade on you read to learn. So, if you don\u2019t learn to read in those first three grades,\u2062 you don\u2019t have \u200cthat tool to learn \u200bfor the rest of your life. And if teachers are going to pass them either way, then you\u2019re just setting them up to fail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McGraw said he was called an \u201cidiot\u201d when he spoke out against shutting \u2063schools down for more than a couple of weeks and said remote teaching would do more damage to society than the virus itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019ve got 15 clips of\u200b different times that I said, shutting\u2064 this country\u200c down\u200b and taking our kids out of school for a prolonged period of \u2063time and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dr-phil-on-shutting-down-schools-because-of-covid-its-like-throwing-gas-on-a-fire\/\" title=\"Dr. Phil warns against closing schools due to COVID, likening it to fueling a fire.\">epidemiological pediatricians estimate<\/a> that it will cost \u2063somewhere around\u200b 15 million years of life lost for these \u200ckids,\u201d he\u200d said. \u201cAnd\u2064 they figure\u200b that because you got roughly \u206350 million kids in public school plus the private \u200cschools and because of what they lost; they will \u2064never close that gap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McGraw explained how students\u200c missing that time in school would lead to\u2064 them achieving \u2062less academically, leading to less appealing job opportunities later.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLesser jobs are usually higher risk \u200bjobs because\u2063 they\u2019re blue collar and they\u2019re working with machinery and \u200dconstruction \u2064and things where they get injured,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have poorer\u200b health coverage, which means they get slower diagnosis and lesser care. And so, \u200cit\u2062 obtains with years \u200cof life shaved off the\u2063 end of their lives. \u2062And what gets me is they did this, the same agencies that advocated for\u200b this\u200d are the same agencies that \u2064had the records that\u200b said, we have the highest levels of anxiety, depression, \u2064and loneliness among our children than we\u2019ve had since records were being kept. So, let\u2019s shut down the schools, which we know are essential to \u200dtheir development. It\u2019s like \u200bthrowing gas on a \u200dfire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McGraw also noted that by keeping children out of schools, there was likely an uptick in the amount\u200b of abuse that some faced at home because\u200b the programs that exist in\u2063 schools for reporting such acts were not available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe simply abandoned them\u2064 to their abusers,\u201d \u2064he said. \u201cAnd\u200d so many \u2063of these\u200b children relied \u200don those schools for at least one if not two meals per day. We took that away, and some say well, but they delivered those meals, \u2063some got them delivered, some didn\u2019t. So, we\u2062 created \u2062a huge educational\u2063 gap.\u200d We abandoned\u2064 the\u2062 abused and molested children to their abusers and molesters. And nobody\u200b has done anything to close\u200c the gap. Other than that,\u200d no problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>his discussion with Sen.
