He is set to be sentenced on Jan. 8 and could \u200bface up to five years \u200bin federal prison.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred on April 13, 2020, \u200cat an enclosed skate\u200b park in\u2063 Compton. \u200dThe deputies arrived \u200dand approached two young Black males \u200boutside the park. Hernandez believed one of\u200b the males was on\u200b probation, \u2062leading to a confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>Vega \u2063allegedly got into an argument with \u2063a man identified as J.A. and even challenged him to a fight. He then forcibly pulled J.A. through a park\u2063 fence and\u2062 placed him in the back\u200b of the patrol SUV \u200bwithout\u200b handcuffing or informing him of \u200dhis arrest.<\/p>\n<p>During the drive, Vega continued to provoke J.A. \u200band made \u2063threats, suggesting they would abandon him in gang territory. \u2063He also planned to fabricate \u200bfalse allegations of \u200bdrug use to justify their actions.<\/p>\n<p>As the chase ensued, Vega crashed the SUV into a wall and\u2064 another \u2062vehicle, \u2062causing J.A. to sustain injuries. After \u200cthe \u200dcrash,\u2064 Vega removed J.A. from the vehicle and instructed him \u2064to leave. He then falsely reported\u2063 over\u200d the sheriff&#8217;s\u2063 radio that a\u200d suspect with a gun had \u200cfled the scene.<\/p>\n<p>It was only when J.A. was detained by another deputy\u2062 that the truth began\u2064 to unravel.
